CameraBag Changelog

What's new in CameraBag 2024.1

Mar 21, 2024
  • Ever have an image that looks great but is simply too low-resolution? CameraBag 2024.1 has you covered with its new AI upscaling feature. This is one of those places where AI really can work magic, filling in details that don’t exist in the original as it creates a much higher-resolution version of your image. CameraBag’s upscaling works great on all kinds of images, from photos to paintings to stills from your favorite anime.
  • To upscale your image in CameraBag, simply press the “AI Upscale (4X)” button at the top of the Adjustments tab, or in the Edit menu. This will make a version of your image that is 4 times the original resolution in each dimension (maxing out at 10K pixels per side). It can be especially handy on crops, since cropping inherently reduces image resolution. Just make your crop, hit the upscale button, and voila: a super high-resolution crop.
  • Say goodbye to all those sites that want you to pay a subscription fee for a limited number of photo upscales - CameraBag’s AI upscaler runs locally on your computer (no uploading), and lets you upscale as many images as you want using the magic of the AI.

New in CameraBag 2024.0 (Nov 5, 2023)

  • The new Painted Mask adjustment tile is found in the Masks section of the Adjustments tab. As with other masks, simply place it to the left of any adjustment tile (or nested group of adjustment tiles), and those adjustments will then only apply to the portions of your image that you have painted with the mask. Set the mask's Preview Color to None to see the effect applied in real time while you paint!
  • When you select the Painted Mask tile in your tray, a brush tool becomes activated in your canvas. Paint in the mask with the left mouse button, erase by holding Shift while using the left mouse button, and adjust the brush radius by holding Command/Control while scrolling up and down.
  • Especially powerful is the ability to save masked adjustments as presets, so you can quickly call up common adjustments you might want to paint onto portions of an image and get painting right away without having to do any setup!

New in CameraBag 2023.4 (Sep 7, 2023)

  • CameraBag's new Toolkits presets are set up to act as a starting point for different image editing tasks, visual styles, and workflows, each including a new Notes tile that guides you through how to best use its features. For example, the B+W Conversion preset loads a handful of adjustments that are particularly useful for creating beautiful black and white photos, and the included notes guide users through things like how to easily adjust the brightness of different hues and when and how to use the included gamma curve. Other neat Toolkits presets include Portrait Curves, Sky Color, Ultra Deep Shadows, and more - be sure to check them all out!
  • The new Notes tile used in each of these Toolkits presets (found in the Utility section of the Adjustments tab) can be used in any of your own custom presets to save whatever notes are useful to have alongside each preset.
  • A big feature for Mac users in this release of CameraBag is the update to native support for the new Apple M1/M2 processors. This brings even more speed improvements to those added in recent CameraBag releases!

New in CameraBag 2023.3 (Jun 29, 2023)

  • CameraBag 2023.3 has been released, and boy is it faster! We’ve focused this update entirely on improving processing speed while interactively editing photos, and you’ll find up to 10x speed improvements across virtually every interactive adjustment.
  • With CameraBag 2023.3, everything feels much smoother and more interactive as you slide sliders and adjust curves, making photo editing even more fun and intuitive. We’ve reached deep into the code base to squeeze out every speed improvement we could find. Try it for yourself and we think you’ll notice the difference immediately.

New in CameraBag 2023.2 (Apr 19, 2023)

We have also added a new Subdivide modifier to the Modify menu. It can be applied anywhere in the modifier stack, not just at the end, unlocking lots of powerful possibilities. We've also added multi-monitor support which allows Silo to remember its window locations across monitors, so it'll remember where you put it across sessions on multi-monitor setups, along with smaller bug fixes and improvements. Check it out!

New in CameraBag 2023.0 (Jan 4, 2023)

  • We’re excited to announce the release of the first 2023 update to CameraBag (Photo and Pro), which includes the major workflow-enhancing concept of Session Presets (see below for more)!
  • Also included in this update are some handy enhancements to masks and preset navigation, plus several bug fixes. Grab the update and check out the video below!
  • Session Presets are like regular presets but faster (no needing to choose a name) and temporary (they’re deleted each time you quit CameraBag). They’re designed to let you quickly save and revisit different versions of your edits for a given photo, so you can easily compare and choose the best among them. Simply press the + button on your keyboard or use the Add Session Preset button at the top of the Presets tab each time you want to save the state of your current adjustments.
  • In CameraBag 2023 you’ll also find a handy menu, above the tabs in the right-hand panel of the main interface, that lets you quickly jump to specific sections of your presets or adjustments. You’ll also notice that each of the adjustment masks now has a Preview Color setting that lets you preview the mask’s affected areas in the chosen color. Be sure to see the release notes below for a list of some of the bugs we’ve squashed in this update.

  • Choose from 100+ built-in styles and filters, or create and share your own.
  • Full suite of 25+ manual photographic tools including advanced curve editors.
  • Stunning new interface.
  • State-of-the-art image processing via the all-new Analog Engine.

  • The Remix slider, which smoothly transitions between endless variations.
  • Large, precise controls.
  • Laptop-friendly design.
  • Batch saving.
  • RAW format and metadata support.
  • Freedom to Play:
  • With CameraBag 2, you don't have to know what look you want to get started. CameraBag 2 lets you see all the possibilities at once: old-school instant film or modern high-contrast portrait, subtle color adjustment or complete artistic overhaul. Choose from side-by-side comparisons with the fullscreen Quicklooks, or get large, instant previews on mouseover; the emphasis is on creative exploration. Once you've chosen a filter, its components are all in the tray to tweak and adjust non-destructively with large, interactive sliders. The Remix slider in particular brings back the "happy accidents" of analog film, smoothly transitioning between infinite natural variations for each style.
  • Advanced Control:
  • The new CameraBag features a full suite of photographic tools, from simple exposure and cropping to advanced vignetting, color correction, and curves. The built-in styles also now have full control over their strength and variation. Since every adjustment appears as a tile in the tray, it's easy to see everything affecting the image at once, and rearrange tiles or edit amounts without compromising image quality. Adjustments and styles can be freely layered to create new looks, which can be saved right into the interface as new filters. Whenever a filter is loaded, the user once again has full control over all of its tiles.
  • The Analog Engine:
  • At CameraBag 2's core is the brand new Analog Engine: high-fidelity, 32 bits-per-channel, non-destructive, multi-threaded image processing. In other words, it's fast and smooth. CameraBag 2 matches the power of high-priced software, yet it's light on its feet and starts up instantly. Its old-school looks are particularly high tech: recreating the natural blemishes and random variations of the analog world is one of the hardest digital challenges, and that's where we've devoted much of our research. Even the most heavily-modified photos retain smooth, film-like colors (especially with the extra color information in RAW files).
  • Price and Availability:
  • CameraBag 2 is available now for Mac and PC. A single cross-platform license is available at www.nevercenter.com for $29 (launch sale price: $24), and a Mac-only version is available via the Mac App Store for $24 (launch sale price: $19). A free, fully-functional 30-day demo is included in the download from www.nevercenter.com, where more info, tutorials, and videos can also be found.
  • The History of CameraBag:
  • CameraBag was initially released as an iPhone app, climbing as high as #2 across all paid apps. The first version for Mac and PC CameraBag Desktop soon followed, proving that the concept scaled beautifully to high res photos. CameraBag 2 for Mac and PC is a gigantic step forward from both CameraBag iPhone and CameraBag Desktop on every front. It has been rebuilt from the ground up specifically for desktop computers, now including a full suite of photo tools, a whole new interface for finding and creating filters, nearly 10 times as many built-in looks, and a rewritten engine under the hood, all while maintaining the intuitiveness and approachable feel of the original app.
