New in Briefs 1.2 Build 126 (Nov 22, 2013)

  • Adaptive Layout Briefs now supports defining actor positions relative to the edges of the screen as either an absolute value or percentage. It also supports width and height as a percentage of the screen (in addition to already supporting density independent points). Adaptive layouts allow your design to accommodate different device sizes. You can test different device sizes directly on the canvas, in our built-in simulator and on different devices.
  • Updated Asset Libraries We've completely overhauled our built-in libraries. We've replaced our iOS library with all-new iOS 7 assets and are now including an Android library as well.
  • Printing and PDF Export Briefs now includes support for printing awesome blueprints for your app design. The print out is your brief broken up by scene with detailed actor information similar to the current Blueprint view in the app.
  • Support for Android and Desktop briefs You can now use Briefs to mockup Android briefs, including an all-new version of Briefscase for Android. And if that wasn't enough, we're including support for resizable briefs for the desktop. Desktop support includes an all-new library of assets for constructing a Mac app brief or website brief.
  • All new Canvas Previews Adaptive timelines also can be switched to other sizes to check positioning and sizing on the fly with a menu in the lower right corner of the canvas. Now you don't need to launch the simulator just to check out different device sizes.
  • Bug Fixes and Other Improvements:
  • Scene backgrounds can now be centered, tiled, or stretched (if the background is a different size than the device).
  • Added option-dragging from the library to create a new scene with the selected actor positioned where the drag completed.
  • Added Helvetica Neue Light and Roboto as a supported font.
  • Added command that clears all scene guides.
  • Changing an actor's dimension to % makes the other dimension proportional.
  • Holding the shift key while moving an actor now constrains movement to initial movement axis (up/left or left/right).
  • Fixed an issue where resizing an actor using the inspector would cause it to change position on the canvas.
  • Added the ability to create scenes by dragging an actor from the asset manager to the timeline. The actor becomes the background.
  • Groups no longer need to be pinned in at least 2 axises.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when browsing version history.
  • Added default background for Desktop Timeline scenes.
  • Fixed a bug where locked items would move when using alignment tools.
  • Fixed a bug preventing the removal of a scene background.
  • Fixed a bug where changing a scene background with more than one document open affected the other open document.

New in Briefs 1.1.2 Build 86 (Sep 5, 2013)

  • Fixed a longstanding issue that would revert text colors to black, even after selecting a new text color. The color pallete should stay better in-sync with the selected actor as well.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the selection cage from being drawn full size when zoomed greater than 100%.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented actors from being smaller than 30pts x 30pts.
  • Fixed an issue that produced inconsistent behavior when an actor was sliced in just one axis.
  • Fixed an issue that produced inconsistent behavior when dragging an image from the Finder when no manage folder was selected.
  • Fixed an issue that caused BriefsLive to send a scene to a connected device more than once.
  • Improved performance when handling mass asset additions and modifications in a managed folder.

New in Briefs 1.1.1 Build 73 (Aug 16, 2013)

  • Fixed an issue that caused assets to hang around in the asset manager after they were deleted from the managed folder.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented a @2x asset from appearing in managed folder, when a companion 1x version didn't exist.
  • Fixed an issue that would choose the wrong asset when using a search filter in the asset manager.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented all actors updating their instance of a managed asset when that asset was updated.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented an asset from updating if it was used as a scene background.
  • Improved state restoration for the Asset Manager. It now remembers last tab used and list mode choice per tab.

  • Added the ability to drop managed assets directly into the image cell inspectors for actors and scene backgrounds.
  • Various other improvements and bug fixes

New in Briefs 1.1 Build 68 (Aug 9, 2013)

  • NEW FEATURES:
  • iCloud:
  • We've enabled iCloud syncing. By saving a brief to iCloud, it becomes available to your iOS devices and Macs connected to iCloud. And if your brief is on iCloud, you can now share a link with others through the sharing menu.
  • Dropbox:
  • We've also added support for storing briefs inside of your Dropbox folder. All briefs saved in a specific location (/Apps/Briefs) in your Dropbox Folder will get synced between Macs and devices. You must enable Dropbox syncing on your device to automatically sync briefs on the go.
  • Scrollable Actors:
  • Our most requested feature was support for scrolling. You can now make any selected actor scrollable. Select an actor and choose "Define Scrollable Region..." from the Actor menu to bring up the interface. Note: Hot Spot actors are not supported for scrolling because that wouldn't make any sense.
  • Scene Gestures:
  • Our second most requested feature was support for gestures. You can now assign assign actions for gestures performed on a scene. We support swipe, and pinch gestures. These actions can target other actors, like actor actions or scenes, so you can goto another scene. Additionally, you can add an action whenever a scene is launched. This is particularly powerful when combined with action delays to simulate network loads or large database operations.
  • Asset Browser:
  • Finally, we've made it a lot easier to manage your art inside and outside of Briefs. To get started, you can associate a folder of assets with a brief by opening the library (now the Asset Browser), switching the managed first tab (the folder icon) and selecting a folder containing the artwork for the brief. Now you can drag and drop your assets directly to the canvas to create actors. You can also create scenes (with the asset set to the scene background) by holding option while dragging to the canvas. As a bonus, when you update the asset outside of briefs in your favorite image editor, well automatically update that asset inside of Briefs when you return.
  • Additionally we've made substantial visual improvements to the layout of the library items to make it easier to scan and choose the correct item.
  • BUG FIXES:
  • Fixed a crash that could occur when Briefs was generating scene thumbnails in the background.
  • Fixed a crash that could occur if the current brief was published to a device running an active BriefsLive session.
  • Fixed an issue where undo could cause unwanted font, color and text changes.
  • Fixed an issue that would mangle the Z-order of elements when pasting a group.
  • Fixed an issue where closing a brief could take a very long time.
  • Fixed an issue that wouldn't prompt you for a file name, if the brief had already been autosaved.
  • Fixed an issue that would randomly delete scenes when reordering scenes in the source list.
  • Fixed an issue where guidelines could become inverted after zooming the canvas.
  • Fixed an issue that would cause inflated brief file sizes, even after deleting items to shrink the brief. Saving the affected brief with this version will compact the brief automatically.
  • Improved performance of loading and saving briefs
  • Improved performance of selecting a lot of actors with goto actions
  • The simulator window now floats above all windows.

  • Fixed a crash that could occur after publishing a brief to Briefscase
  • Fixed a crash that could occur after ending a BriefsLive session
  • Fixed an issue where two timelines with the same name would confuse Briefs and corrupt the resulting brief file. This is a fix for those of you seeing one timeline overwrite the other after re-opening the file.
  • Fixed an issue that triggered autosaving when a brief didn't have changes.
  • Fixed an issue that added a transition, when the intention was to replace a transition action on an actor.
  • Fixed an issue where the Blueprint view wouldn't switch timelines if the selected timeline was collapsed in the scene list.
  • Improved file saving performance for large briefs.
  • Sent the Blueprint view back to school for some Math lessons, e.g., the sizes for 2x should now be double the size of the 1x asset.
