Snapper Changelog

What's new in Snapper 2.1.7

Aug 7, 2013
  • Fixes:
  • Reading marker names from Wave files caused files not to be shown.

New in Snapper 2.1.6 (Aug 7, 2013)

  • Fixes:
  • Accomodation for both odd- and even chunksizes in Wave files.

New in Snapper 2.1.5 (Jul 29, 2013)

  • Fixes:
  • Repaired dragging out of Snapper.

New in Snapper 2.1.4 (Jul 27, 2013)

  • Fixes:
  • Made a patch for some Fostex recorders that write the XML part of a Broadcast Wave incorrectly.
  • Fixed a bug for audio interfaces with large numbers of outputs
  • Modified the filestate cache to include checks for exact file paths
  • If for some reason Snapper quits unexpectedly, it will try to create a file on the desktop called 'SnapperState' that logs information on the state of the app at that point. This can help us track down problems, so when you want to report a crash, send this file along with the crashreport created by the OS.
  • Odd chunk sizes in Wave files were interpreted as incorrect.

New in Snapper 2.1.3 (Jul 17, 2013)

  • Fixes:
  • 64 bit float in AIFC or CAF files was interpreted incorrectly
  • a-law and ยต-Law data in AIFC files was interpreted incorrectly
  • Broadcast Wave files with an XML chunk usually have a name field per track. If that was missing Snapper crashed.
  • File detection to distinguish between AIFF and AIFC files was broken.
  • Files with lowercase "mp3" extension weren't recognized.

New in Snapper 2.1.2 (Jul 17, 2013)

  • Features:
  • System output device is a separate choice in the audio devices. That means that Snapper will follow all changes, either by setting another device manually, or unplugging your device and reverting to another.
  • Shift clicking on marker-, loop- or regionindicators in the ruler will extend the selection to that marker, region or loop
  • Ruler indicators have a small shadow for visibility.
  • In the region-marker-loop list on the left you can also select multiple items, creating a selection from the earliest to the end of the latest.
  • Fix:
  • Better mapping to audio interface outputs.
  • Issue with CD Image data not recognized.

New in Snapper 2.1.1 (Jul 17, 2013)

  • Solves the -35 error with the Lame mp3 encoder

New in Snapper 2.1.0 (Jul 17, 2013)

  • Features:
  • Adjustable fade curves and longer fade times, up to 50 seconds.
  • Support for Akai MPC files (old style, .snd; newer MPC's can do Wave).
  • Snippet file name extension can now hold a number tag, so you can control your own numbering scheme. For instance, if you put '###' in the string, the number appended to the original name will be at least three digits long, padded on the front with zeros, so in this case would be 001 thru 999. You can make it as long as you want, but if you make it too short to hold the number, Snapper will use more digits anyway, not padding the front with zeros. Of course, you can combine this with a literal tag: 'snippet ##' will extend file names to, for example, 'snippet 02'.
  • Ruler shows selection start and end. Can be adjusted there, too.
  • It's now possible to select your preferred audio interface for Snapper playback, it doesn't necessarily take the system default.
  • Multichannel playback. If Snapper can work out the channel configuration from the file it will map those channels correctly to the surround channel setting of your audio interface (as edited in Audio MIDI Setup).
  • The buttons above the meters can function as solo or mute.
  • Improved layout of the preferences window.
  • Normalize ceiling can be between -24 and 0 dB.
  • Volume reset key command. Resets the playback volume to 0 dB.
  • Volume up and down key commands can have amounts of more than 1dB.
  • Selection readouts can be edited. They'll accept 'hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds' format, as well as samples, depending on the display preference.
  • Toolbar buttons and optional key commands to skip to next/previous marker or region.
  • It's now possible to change and add markers, regions and loops. The indicators in the ruler can be moved to adjust position and size. Selecting a region, marker or loop in the list and pressing the enter key lets you rename it. There are toolbar buttons and key commands available for the creation of new regions, markers or loops. Note that the input file will never be modified: Snapper stores additional data on a particular file somewhere else. When you export a file, Snapper always tries to include as many of the region, marker and loop definitions in the output file as it can. To remove a marker, region or loop, select it in the list and click on the trashcan icon at the bottom.
  • Added preference to play immediately after rewind.
  • The files Snapper creates when dragging selections can now be stored in a custom location, so they don't necessarily wind up in a temporary folder, where they could be deleted on log-out.
  • Support for Broadcast Wave 64 bit file according to EBU specification, which is what Pro Tools generates. Note that Pro Tools cannot read the .w64 files.
  • Fixes:
  • Native Instruments's Maschine appends an ID3 tag to Wave files, ignoring the format specification.
  • Issue:
  • Nuendo and Cubase, when running in 64bit mode, do not receive the spot-to-track messages.

New in Snapper 2.0.4 (Jul 25, 2012)

  • Fixes:
  • Magnetic mode repaired for Mac OS 10.7 Lion
  • Export to folder selection dialog fixed.
  • LAME encoder is located in a new way, to avoid incorrect "Encoder not found" message
  • Finder selection following improved for Lion.
  • Warning:
  • This will be the last release for PowerPC. The PowerPC version will not check for new updates.

New in Snapper 2.0.1 (Oct 11, 2010)

  • Fixes:
  • Some export functions gave duplicate file name errors.
  • Feedback on export could stick in waveform display after export was done.

New in Snapper 2.0.0 (Oct 8, 2010)

  • Much improved integration with Snow Leopard.
  • Spot-to-cursor supports Nuendo, Cubase, Logic and ProTools
  • Drag selections anywhere, into tracks of any DAW, video editor or even iChat or mail.
  • Even smaller cpu footprint
  • Better looking waveforms that build up quicker, and zoom smoother
  • Loop playback
  • 64 bit file support
  • New edit features such as a trim tool, fades and normalizing
  • Varispeed playback without pitch shift
  • Recent files tab
  • Level meters
  • and dozens of other features.

New in Snapper 1.0.11 (Feb 17, 2009)

  • It fixes the persistent distortion qith QuickTime files, both input and output works fine now.
  • More cosmetic fixes: dragging the divider between waveform and text fields all the way to the right would loose the waveform.

New in Snapper 1.0.4 (May 26, 2008)

  • Added support for 32-bit floating point AIFC files.
  • If you now export a selection which is a defined region, the resulting file will get the region name, instead of the original file's name with 'snippet' appended.
  • Added recognition of AVI movies.
  • Previously, Snapper would display either 'Word Size' or 'Bit Rate' for any file, depending on the file type. Now, both file attributes can be displayed independently from each other.
  • Fixed reading of certain types of mp3, m4a, and other QuickTime-interpreted files.
  • Resolved problems with reading FLAC files (Free Lossless Audio Codec), either by using the FLAC importer plug-in from Xiph (http://people.xiph.org/~arek/flac_import/) or the solution built by Twisted (http://twistedwave.com/TwistedFLAC.html). Both products are free.
  • The FLAC importer from Xiph has the advantage that the files are displayed by Snapper as FLAC files, and that their metadata (id3tags) are shown. TwistedFLAC has another approach: you give it a folder with FLAC files, and it will create a virtual disk containing the same files, but with all FLAC files interpreted as Wave files. Any metadata in the original FLAC files is gone, however.
  • If you chose a host application whose zoom keys should be used as Snapper's zoom hot keys, this setting would not be remembered. Also, the menus where these key equivalents were shown would not be properly updated.
  • Fixed reading of markers in AIFC IMA 4:1 files.
  • Made descriptions for some file kinds more specific.
  • Fixed issues with recognition of split surround files.
  • Changed the bit rate calculation for files containing video tracks, to indicate just the audio bit rate instead of the total movie bit rate.
  • Hot key equivalents were not shown in menus just after starting Snapper.
