New in Adobe Dimension CC 2.2.0 (Apr 3, 2019)

  • Cloud Render (Beta):
  • We are very excited to announce a new service - Cloud Render (Beta). Cloud rendering allows you to upload your Dimension scene to the cloud and do the rendering on a server. You can then download the final result, freeing your computer resources and completing renders significantly faster.
  • Cloud rendering is free during the beta period. We can’t wait to hear your feedback!
  • Substance material support:
  • You can now import Substance materials in .sbsar format. Substance materials are a way to parametrically generate textures, so you can get thousands of variations of patterns and designs from one material.
  • Updates to Placed Graphics:
  • Graphics placed onto models have had several upgrades in terms of quality and control. All graphics now maintain a higher resolution, with less pixelation and higher visual fidelity. Graphics now also have two modes: decal and fill. Decal mode lets a graphic float on top of the material while fill mode lets a graphic fill the entire material. Fill mode has new tiling methods for repeat and mirror.
  • Updates to Creative Cloud Libraries:
  • Dimension now allows saving both graphics and colors from Dimension into CC Libraries. Loading an image from Creative Cloud Libraries now maintains the image as a cloud linked file for editing and updating workflows. The Creative Cloud Libraries panel has also been updated to support the new custom grouping functionality.
  • Units and Dimensions:
  • Dimension now has… dimensions! You can choose from several 3D units of measurement and change the size of objects in dimensions to easily scale objects.
  • Enhancements:
  • Spherical Panorama Environment Light Support: Dimension can now detect when you load a spherical panoramic image as an environment light. Dimension will no longer apply automatic spherical panoramic image conversion to images that are already spherical panoramas.
  • Move Tool Helpers: The Move tool has some new alignment and distance indicators to help identify how far you’re moving objects.
  • Magic Wand Edit Commands: You can now use the cut, copy, paste, and duplicate edit commands on magic wand selections, allowing you to break models up into multiple pieces.
  • New Language: Dimension now supports Simplified Chinese as a language choice.
  • What's changed:
  • VRay Rendering Engine Removed: With the development of the Adobe Rendering Engine we have now removed the VRay rendering engine as part of the Dimension core application. Support for external rendering engines may be considered in the future.
  • Starter Assets: With the introduction of Substance .sbsar format support we have replaced most of the materials in the Starter Assets with Substance materials.
  • Canvas Selection: The border of the canvas is no longer selectable, to prevent accidental selection changes. The canvas size label is still targetable.

New in Adobe Dimension CC 2.1.0 (Mar 31, 2019)

  • Performance improvements:
  • Improvements to Adobe Dimension Renderer startup speeds when using the render preview window.
  • Improvements to Adobe Dimension Renderer final render speeds.
  • Improved the performance for undo/redo actions.
  • Enhancements:
  • Implemented a new preference to reduce noise in the final rendering when using the Adobe Dimension Renderer. This option increases the quality of the final renders by denoising the result, reducing total render times.

New in Adobe Dimension CC 2.0 (Oct 16, 2018)

  • Enhanced Illustrator and Photoshop integration:
  • Import AI and PSD files and copy/paste raster and vector artwork right into your Dimension scenes. You can even import Illustrator and Photoshop artboards to use as materials, textures, and more.
  • Multiple graphic layers:
  • Place multiple images, logos, and other graphics on your 3D models as layers. Each one can have unique material properties and settings.
  • Support for more 3D file formats:
  • Dimension now supports Autodesk FBX, STL, Sketchup SKP, and OBJ formats so you can easily work with files created in other 3D modeling apps.
  • Render queue:
  • Use bookmarks to efficiently render multiple saved views in a single Dimension file.
  • Faster rendering:
  • Get faster interaction and render preview times with the new native renderer.
  • Publish 3D scenes:
  • Once you've created a 3D scene, publish it to a 3D web-based viewer and generate a unique URL for sharing.
  • Canvas and render size print controls:
  • The Dimension canvas now offers familiar 2D zooming, panning, and resizing controls. Use print controls to easily adjust the size of your canvas based on physical units and print resolution settings.

New in Adobe Dimension CC 1.1 (Apr 3, 2018)

  • Enhanced Photoshop integration:
  • Compositing workflows for product shots and mockups is faster and simpler than ever. Automatically send any image from Dimension to Photoshop and see your saved edits reflected in your scene.
  • Alignment and snap guides:
  • Now it’s easier to precisely place objects in a scene. Snap 3D models to the ground with the Move tool and choose the exact rotation of objects positioned at an angle.
  • Selection improvements:
  • Work smarter with Move, Rotate, and Scale tools that are better, brighter, and faster. Select multiple objects by drawing a marquee rectangle.
  • Color support:
  • Access color palettes saved to Creative Cloud Libraries from right inside Dimension. This makes it a cinch to maintain brand color consistency across your designs.
  • Improved custom 3D model import:
  • Import a wider range of .obj files into Dimension. Automatically generate UV maps and normals or resolve errors in the existing UVs to use assets easily.
  • And so much more:
  • Also includes: Performance and stability improvements, reworked depth of field and focus controls, better Match Image perspective matching, and more.

New in Adobe Dimension CC 1.0.0 (Apr 3, 2018)

  • Place graphics on 3D surfaces:
  • Drag and drop a logo or graphic onto a 3D model to see how your design concept will look in real life. Experiment with different layouts — as you move your graphic around, it will maintain the same angle and orientation of your model.
  • Match image automation:
  • Select your background image and Dimension will automatically set the light, camera, perspective, aspect ratio, and more to make your object match perfectly. When you choose an outdoor image, Dimension detects the direction and strength of the sun, and automatically lights your object accordingly.
  • Familiar tools and shortcuts:
  • Interface with Dimension just like other Creative Cloud apps, such as Photoshop and Illustrator. Work smoothly with familiar interactions like file organization, color picker, drag and drop, selection targeting, and more.
  • Multi-layered PSD renders:
  • Get a rich set of layers in your PSD exports, giving you more capabilities and control for post-processing 3D composites. For example, easily replace your background image, change lighting, or recolor objects without having to re-render.
  • Material editing controls:
  • Control the placement and appearance of textures for your materials with offset, rotate and tile options. For example, adjust the direction of the grain on a wooden object to get your desired visual effect.
  • Add shadows and reflections:
  • Edit your ground plane properties to adjust the reflections and shadows.
  • Adobe Stock assets:
  • Get hundreds of free Adobe Stock assets that have been optimized for Dimension, accessible right inside the app. Customize your scene with thousands of 3D models, lights, and materials.
  • Real time render preview:
  • Dimension shows you a preview of what your final render will look like in real time, so you can get the look you want before taking the time to render. Play and experiment with different materials, lighting, and more and see how it looks as you go.
  • In-app guidance:
  • Quickly learn the basics and benefits of working with 3D. Get to know the different tools in Dimension without leaving the app. Relevant information surfaces when you need it.
  • Camera view bookmarks:
  • Save specific camera positions and perspectives. As you design your scene, you can set a default view that you can return to easily.
  • Camera depth of field controls:
  • Control the focus settings for your camera to simulate realistic blur effects.
  • Material Capture:
  • Use Adobe Capture CC to generate physically-based materials from any image you take with your mobile device. Access your saved materials directly in Dimension via CC Libraries and apply them to your 3D objects.
  • V-Ray photorealistic rendering:
  • Dimension partners with Chaos Group, a world leader in computer graphics technology, to integrate their industry-leading V-Ray engine for the highest quality photorealistic rendering.
