Use your Mac's keyboard to type directly on your iPhone, iPad or Apple TV via Bluetooth, and even control these devices with a mouse. #Bluetooth Keyboard #IPhone Keyboard #IPad Mouse #Keyboard #Bluetooth #Typing
Over the years, I've encountered people who are so proficient with touchscreen keyboards that typing on their phones barely slows them down. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. I dread having to use a touchscreen for typing, and I always wish I could just plug in a keyboard and get it done the old-fashioned way.
Of course, you can just get a Bluetooth keyboard, but what if you want to use a wired device, or one that is currently paired with your Mac? Well, it's a good thing you asked, because KeyPad lets you do just that. Moreover, it even lets you use a regular mouse on your mobile devices.
The app is quite simple to use. Before anything else, you need to configure Bluetooth on your Mac and mobile device and pair them. Make sure you initiate the connection from the mobile device, as the app will not detect it otherwise. Once that is done, enable KeyPad either from your menu bar or using the ⌥⌘P hotkey.
If everything has gone smoothly, you should see a window on your desktop that informs you the app is active. All key presses will now be sent to the connected device, allowing you to type much more smoothly. I didn't notice any lag, and it's definitely a considerable improvement over the touchscreen keyboard.
As if using a keyboard to type on mobile devices wasn't cool enough, you can now also control them using a regular mouse. Simply press ⌃⌥ (Control+Option) to enable the cursor on the device you're connected to, then use the same key combination again to turn it off.
Normally, you would need to pair your mobile device with an actual Bluetooth keyboard or mouse, as the ones connected to your Mac can't send input directly to your phone.
KeyPad gets around this issue by emulating a Bluetooth keyboard/mouse. When your Mac is connected to a phone, tablet, or TV via this app, it is seen as an actual keyboard or mouse, and input can be transmitted. This is only done while KeyPad is active, so enabling and disabling the app is akin to turning a Bluetooth device on and off.
This is a great app for users who are tired of typing on touchscreen keyboards, as well as those who would like to have a mouse cursor on their mobile devices. As long as you're only connecting to one device and have no need for mouse support, you don't even have to pay anything. If you do want those extra features, though, the price is more than reasonable.
