ResXtreme For Mac

The Apple vetted operating system integrates display customization options via the System Preferences and allows you to quickly change the default resolution, even though the list of predefined presets is not exhaustive.

ResXtreme is a small OS X utility that provides access to all resolution modes supported by any connected display. Note that ResXtreme can detect and change the resolution for all displays connected to your computer.

Upon launch, ResXtreme scans your system to detect all projection devices that are available and lists them in its main window. The app lets you know if the display is internal or externally connected, and provides info on the model and size.

At the same time, ResXtreme attaches to each device in the list a drop-down menu that includes all supported screen resolutions, regardless if the preset can be accessed in a public mode, or only through private API calls.

Within the ResXtreme main window, you get to see the width, height, scale, frequency, depth, bits/pixel, and bits/sample, for each supported display mode. You also get to see if the mode can be accessed publicly or not.

Via the ResXtreme View menu, you can specify if you want to see only 8bits display modes. To make sure you have all the available options shown in the ResXtreme’s window, you can refresh the list using the customary Command + R hotkey.

To apply any of the screen resolution presets included in the ResXtreme window, just use your mouse to double click on the respective mode. You cannot preview the output beforehand, but you can go back to the original settings just as quickly.
