maFileRenamer offers you the possibility to modify the name of multiple files at the same time by applying custom naming patterns. The utility comes with support for 4 different renaming tools and enables you to save the configurations as presets.

maFileRenamer comes with 4 methods that can be applied for changing the file names: strip, replace, add, and numbering. The tools are organized into multiple tabs, and each tool has its own customization options.

The utility enables you to strip a number of characters from the file name, to remove certain characters, to delete the text before or after a certain fragment, or decide to use only letters or only alphanumeric characters.

You also get to make all the characters upper or lower case, to capitalize words, or to replace characters or text fragments. maFileRenamer can be used to add prefixes or suffixes, or to insert metadata information to image files.

Last but not least, maFileRenamer offers you the possibility to number the files starting from a user entered value. The number can be attached before or after the file name, and you can also choose to sort the files alphabetically beforehand.

Note that to use the maFileRenamer app, you must first configure all the renaming rules and select the output location, and only then load the files you want to process, which is rather counterintuitive. As soon as you point them out via the Finder menu, maFileRenamer will start applying the renaming rules.

Since maFileRenamer comes with a simulation mode, you get to preview the final result before actually changing the file names. However, keep in mind that you will have to load the files again for each adjustment, and then remember to disable the simulation mode when you are satisfied with the result.

Worth mentioning is that each renaming pattern configured within the maFileRenamer app can be preserved as a preset: you can load it again anytime you like and use it with a new set of files.

Moreover, maFileRenamer offers you the option to export the patterns as c-actions that can be run in the Centurion app designed by the same developer. Centurion helps you move files to different folders, and you will be able to apply the maFileRenamer naming patterns at the same time.

What's new in maFileRenamer 2.0.1:

  • Bug fix on "Allow overwrite" modus, while source and destination folder is the same.
