The Apple TV Siri Remote can be connected to your Mac via Bluetooth, but without the SiriMote application, all you can do is test Apple TV apps within the Xcode Simulator. SiriMote allows you to use the device to control any macOS app that is responsive to the media keys.
Within the SiriMote main window, you get detailed instructions on how to connect the Apple TV Siri Remote device to your Mac. In short, navigate to the System Preferences Bluetooth panel, press the Menu and Volume Up button on the Apple TV Siri Remote device for 5 seconds, and then click the Pair button on your computer.
Note that your Apple TV has to be turned off and unplugged. To use the remote with your Apple TV again, you must first remove the device from the list of Bluetooth devices paired with your Mac, and then go through the pairing procedure with the Apple TV once again.
SiriMote is designed to transform the commands received from the Apple TV Siri Remote into keyboard events. As a result, you can use it to control any macOS app that comes with media keys support, such as iTunes, Keynote, QuickTime Player, VLC Player, and so on. Moreover, you can also adjust the system’s volume.
Use your Apple TV Siri Remote to control macOS apps By pressing buttons on the Apple TV Siri Remote when using a media player, you can start or pause the playback, adjust the volume, jump to the previous or next track, rewind or fast forward the track or video. If you are using the remote with Keynote, you can go to the next or previous slide.
To sum up, SiriMote offers you the possibility to use the Apple TV Siri Remote to control various macOS apps, but keep in mind that you need to re-pair the device to use it with your Apple TV once again.
