Hides For Mac

When you have only one monitor, you can quickly run out of screen space, especially on a smaller laptop. Cycling through windows is easy enough, but this often means other applications will be visible in the background. If you're trying to avoid distractions, this isn't ideal.

Hides can help remove clutter from your desktop by automatically hiding every application other than the one you are currently using. Focus mode can be enabled for all apps or only specific ones, and the hotkeys for toggling this mode and other functions are customizable.

While it might not seem like a big deal, having a bunch of other windows in the background while trying to focus on something can be a significant distraction. You can always hide them manually, but that's cumbersome, and you have to hide another app every time you switch to a different window.

With Hides, this is all done automatically. Only one application will ever be visible at a time, with all its open windows. Focus mode can be enabled from the main UI, from the menu bar, or via the customizable hotkey.

If you only want to hide background applications in certain situations, Hides allows you to specify which apps should be taken into consideration. If the setting is left to default, all apps will be hidden when not in the foreground.

Aside from the focus shortcut, you can also define hotkeys for instantly hiding all apps or all except the active one. However, there is already a macOS shortcut for the latter function, so it probably won't see much use.

Hides isn't for everyone. Unless you really want to have only one application on the screen at any given time, it may actually interfere with your work. But if you're after the ultimate distraction-free environment, it might be exactly what you need.
