The clipboard has become such an integral part of our Mac experience that we sometimes forget just how limited it is. While simplicity is not a bad thing, some may wish to extend its functionality and perform more complex operations.

This is where CopyQ comes in, as it is capable of saving every item added to the clipboard and allows you to store them in customized tabs. These clippings can then be tagged, edited and pasted in an application of your choice.

After you install CopyQ, you will notice the new icon added to your status bar. The application begins recording clipboard activity immediately, and stores items in the default tab.

Opening the menulet brings up a list of the most recent additions, and you can click on any of them to instantly paste them in the current application.

While simply storing multiple clipboard items makes CopyQ very useful, is packed with more complex features as well.

You can create any number of tabs and organize items in any way you see fit, assign tags, write notes and edit text with the internal editor or an external app.

Moreover, drag and drop support enables you to move items between tabs or paste them in any location effortlessly.

CopyQ is highly customizable, so much so that it could take a while for each user to adapt it to their preferred workflow. While this is certainly not a bad thing, novices may have some problems figuring things out at first.

If you are looking for a way to make the humble clipboard a bit more useful, CopyQ may be the app for you, seeing that it can store every item you copy, allows you to organize them in personalized tabs and paste them anywhere, at any time.
