Automatically have the sound muted whenever you disconnect your headset, including the Bluetooth ones, or when your Mac goes to sleep. #Mute sound #Disconnect headset #Awake from sleep #Mute #Sound #Disconnect
AutoMute is a minimalist macOS utility designed to help you avoid embarrassing situations by automatically muting your Mac’s sound in particular circumstances.
The AutoMute utility can handle two different triggers, and you get to disable the service for certain periods of time.
By default, the AutoMute application stays in your status bar menu and lets you know if your sound is on or off with the help of a minimalist menulet icon.
Via the associated status bar menu, you also get to specify the triggers that should control the app: if your Mac awakes from sleep, or if the headphones are disconnected. Note that the second trigger also works with Bluetooth headsets that went outside the computer’s range.
The same menu enables you to toggle the presence of the Notification Center alerts or to disable the service for a fixed period, ranging from 1 to 6, 12, or 24 hours.
If you have both triggers active at all times, AutoMute will not mute the sound when you wake up your Mac from sleep if you have headsets connected, which means that if you have open headsets, and the sound level is high, the music is still audible.
At the same time, if you manually adjust the system sound by using the media keys, AutoMute does not detect the change, so it will show the icon that signals that the sound is muted, even though the state has changed.
Bottom line, AutoMute provides a simple solution for making sure that your music taste remains private, regardless if you disconnect your wired headsets by mistake, get out of the Bluetooth range when using a wireless model, or forget to stop the playlist before putting your Mac to sleep.
Nonetheless, the AutoMute proves inefficient in certain unique situations, so you must make sure to tweak the settings to match your current setup.
