WebKit For Mac

WebKit is a popular and open source web browser engine, used as a base in the development of popular web browsers such as Safari and Google Chrome, as well as a number of macOS apps like Mail and Dashboard.

WebKit contains JavaScript and HTML code that was initially provided with the KDE KHTML and KJS libraries is currently developed by Apple, KDE, Google, Bitstream, Nokia, BlackBerry and a large community of open source developers.

Applications built using the Webkit engine are fast and allow users to easily browse the Internet via a powerful and extensible web browsing platform.

WebKit is also used as the basis for various experimental browsers used by Amazon Kindle e-book reader and by the default browsers used in iOS, Android, Tizen and BlackBerry 10 operating systems.

Due to its cross-platform availability, WebKit based applications can be used on both Mac OS X as well as Windows platforms.

WebKit’s C++ app programming interface comes with a large set of classes that can be used to display web content and to provide various browsing features.

WebKit features a user-friendly interface that is identical to Apple's Safari web browser. Hence, you can open, browser and preview multiple pages in different tabs, create bookmarks, add pages to your Reading List, Email the currently opened page or share it view Messages, Twitter or Facebook.

Just like Safari, WebKit allows you to export pages to PDF documents and open page clips in your Dashboard. By accessing the View menu, you can hide or show the favorites bar, sidebar and status bar, enable or disable the Full Screen mode and change the text encoding.
