RsyncOSX For Mac

RsyncOSX provides a user-friendly graphical interface for backing up data locally or on a remote server by using the rsync command-line tool.

Even though RsyncOSX does not offer support for all rsync options, the utility is both powerful and easy to use.

Naturally, the first step when using RsyncOSX is to tell the application what files you want to have backed up: you can specify both the source and output directories, and include the credentials for the remote servers when necessary.

RsyncOSX does not allow you to select individual files, but works only with folders, even though it will transfer only the folder’s content.

At the same time, when backing up, RsyncOSX will erase all other files that have been in the output directory previously, so when the job is done, the folder will contain only the files you have chosen to backup.

Note that you can see all the defined backup tasks at any time, and even modify the associated parameters. Moreover, for each backup task, RsyncOSX automatically generates a restore one so that the file transfer can go both ways.

Once everything is set up, you can readily navigate to the RsyncOSX Run panel and select the jobs you want to perform by checking the appropriate box. Right next to each entry you are able to see the last run date.

RsyncOSX can handle both individual task, or can run them in a batch. You will be prompted for confirmation before the file transfer actually starts, and the utility shows completion notifications after each job. However, RsyncOSX does not integrate scheduling capabilities

To sum it all up, RsyncOSX offers you the possibility to make use of the rsync command-line tool to backup and restore files from local or remote storage devices, without having to deal with the Terminal.

RsyncOSX's user interface is fairly intuitive, and you get to configure new tasks with ease. The drawback is that all jobs have to be triggered manually by the user.
