Oryoki is a small web browser developed on the Chromium source code that offers you the possibility to navigate websites without wasting resources and space for tools that you never use.
The Oryoki app is built with the Electron framework and features a minimalist design: frameless windows, the possibility to hide even the title bar, and an OmniBox that serves as a search and URL bar at the same time.
Right off the bat, Oryoki welcomes you with the Omnibox window, where you must either input the website’s URL or type keywords. In the first case, Oryoki will load the respective page, while in the latter it will run a Google search.
You get to navigate through web pages just like you would do in any other web browser, but keep in mind there are no navigation buttons: you need to hold down Command and use the arrow keys to go back and forth.
Moreover, you get to reload or hard reload the page, toggle the title bar and the Omnibox visibility, or switch to full-screen mode: just go to the View menu to see all the available hotkeys. Keep in mind that Oryoki does not work with tabs, but it can open multiple windows.
Oryoki comes with download capabilities, yet it does not feature a downloads manager: you get to open the default download folder from the application, but if you used another output location, the option is not very useful.
Via the Oryoki Tools menu, you can choose to capture screenshots and copy them to your clipboard, or record videos. For capturing videos, you need to have FFmpeg installed to deal with the encoding. Oryoki can handle adjusting preferences for the ProRes and MP4 formats.
Bottom line, Oryoki is a small web browser that features only the most essential features when it comes to navigating websites. The app comes with an uncluttered user interface, and most functions can be triggered by using hotkeys.
Nonetheless, the Oryoki project is still under development, and some of the included tools are still in the experimental stage.
