It would appear that readers of your service or any other download service should take careful heed of any "Donate" ware and the services they may offer based upon open source projects. If you read the descriptions carefully, as with NeoOffice, most so-called improvements exists in the source "Freeware" or are in fact already in existence in MAC OS tool box.
In some instances, their enhancements are not worth the amounts as demanded, no matter how small, by donation. In any case, donations are, by definition, a request and should never be accompanied by a demand. This is just so much double-speak.
Donate-ware is a commercial subterfuge that most readers can see through. This kind of a practice can only be stopped by user walking away, as it were from such street corner hawkers of tinsel-ware or other forms of "Shell games".
For those end users of these open source products and their spin-offs each individual should not only takes notice of this associations, but consider very carefully any support of these enterprises that seek funds by dubious association as off-shoots with more gracious open source projects.
Generally speaking, uses of these "modified" software would be better off simply donating to Freeware or Open source projects than to "take-off" that use the efforts of others to spin a money grabbing scheme by minimal or even effectual modification of others work products given freely for public usages.
