Doesn't operate on my system (Tiger PPC), and I don't know how to uninstall it; the uninstaller doesn't respond, nor does the launch icon.

The reviews from 2009 are outdated and should be ignored/scrapped! ClamXav has been re-written in new code and works very well on my Mac laptop. Virus definition updates are regular and can be made automatically (once a day, at present). We should all be 'immunising' ourselves for the possible day that Mac OS is a target for viruses. In the meantime, as 'Computer Help Denver' has already said, ClamXav can help Macs not to pass on viruses to Microsoft-based PCs. The program has evolved greatly over the past 2 years and has an extensive team behind it dedicated to continuing this trend. By the way, it is free and specifically designed for the Mac.

found and quarantined criiters on a Windows NTFS volume (had Paragon's excellent NTFS read write driver pre-installed). You must adjust program to quarantine. In 7 years, I have found 3 OSX viruses, all very benign items on OSX but virulent for Windows, Clam helps

It took several uninstalls/installs and ClamXav worked for the first time since my upgrade to snow leopard.
    Disregard my previous review...
It runs, it looks nice, however I'm not qualified enough to say if it really does detect and fixes virii...

ClamxAV has 1 year plus old OS X vulnerability definitions as it's data base. The Clam Team doesn't care about OS X and doesn't add the latest definitions. It was tested by a Mac malware researcher and was found to TOTALLY FAIL as an AV and malware application for the Mac. He has tried repeatedly to get them to include the latest OS X malware definitions and they just ignore it. There are no recent OS X Unix definitions for OS X. STAY AWAY!

For most Mac OS users, ClamXav is all the virus protection they will need. The program does not repair infected files, but merely announces their presence and optionally will quarantine them for future deletion. It does not perform scans automatically unless you have activated the Sentry feature. Even then, it will only automatically scan new entries into the folder(s) you have told Sentry to watch. The best use for ClamXav is to check email that you may forward to others (to avoid passing along a virus) and to check your online downloads for viruses. People who used System 6 and System 7 from Apple will remember the freeware Disinfectant. It's nice to see a capable open source antivirus program for OSX. Definitely a recommended download (and worth a small donation, though it's not necessary).
