CheckBook Pro 2.0.4 and its upcoming 2.1 version seem deceptively devoid of power but this is not true in the least. The small program is packed with sophisticated ways to massage your bank accounts data. The Summaries (reports) with bar graphs are not all that sophisticated or intriguing and the print outs from the program are devoid of any ability to be formatted in a pretty way. However, the powerful filters, smart folders and competent programming design of the entry register for bank accounts (checking and savings) allow you to organized any data by payee, category, etc. and to instantly changed a full range of entries to another category or entry type. What the program can't do in its summary reports, it certainly can do on screen in a most thorough way and without any bugs. You can do credit cards with a little imagineering on your part (i.e., charges and interest are entered as credits and payments as debits) since the program is not set up to really work with anything but bank accounts as a checkbook. The columns of every account you have can be individually tailored. For instance, you may not want a check number column in a saving's account. In reconcile, you may want this column but not that column in one checking account reconciliation but a different layout in another account. CheckBook Pro is so flexible in this regard. More so than other programs which can handle more than just bank accounts. CheckBook Pro cannot download from banks as of yet but an iPhone version is on the way. CheckBook Pro is aimed at the user who wants to manage his basic accounts. It is simple but complete, incredibly competent at what it can do. I have tested every program for Mac and for my needs which are quite limited to paying my bills online at the different sites of each bill I owe, CheckBook Pro is a champion of faithfully recording your credits and debits and presenting your checking and savings data in every way imaginable. If you want a pro program and don't want or need anything but a checkbook, this program is no simple-minded piece of trash that the other checkbook programs are. The technical support by email is absolutely terrific and personable. Considerable capability to set your own preferences of the font and size, default entry types and even color of credits versus debits despite the very marginal control over printing out summaries mentioned above. Check out this program if it fits your needs. For what it does, it certainly is oozing with almost infallible power and stability in a small competently designed financial checkbook program at an inexpensive price yet! |
