Adobe AIR is a runtime necessary for certain internet-based applications, increasingly so with the advent of enhanced applets for content submission to social media websites that desire cross-platform consistency and compatibility.
The latest Mac installer, listed on the download page, though it is listed as a Universal Binary, it in fact, does NOT support PowerPC based Macs. Adobe abandoned support for the PowerPC platform upon release of AIR 2.x. Most applications out there do still work with AIR 1.5.x, as most of the new features of AIR 2.x are not actively in use.
If you need to install Adobe AIR on a PowerPC-based Mac, you'll have a hell of a time finding a installer on Adobe's website. You'd have about as much luck as trying to replace that PowerPC-based processor with an Intel one, and thinking it'll be as easy as swapping a tiny part.
Adobe does, however, have buried deep on their page, the list of all previous archived installers and SDKs for Adobe AIR. Using this page, http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/853/cpsid_85304.html, you can download Adobe AIR 1.5.3, the latest AIR release that is supported on and compatible with PowerPC-based Macintoshes.
Perhaps Softpedia should include that information more accurately in the framework of this entry, keeping older versions of a product in a listing, as is done for web browsers like Google Chrome and Opera ALL THE TIME. |
