It's a good app with a much nicer interface than Limewire and more stability than Poisoned.
It has one shortcoming that is not listed in this review. When you are downloading a lot of files, Acquisition kind of loses track of the downloads sometimes. Especially, if you quit and reopen the application, some files that your were downloading are not in the list anymore. The partially-downloaded files stay on your computer though, and then you have to remove them manually from your download folder, because Acquisition doesn't seem to allow you to resume downloads for files that have been "forgotten" (some clients let you do this). It can be irritating when you've been trying to download a rare movie for a week and you have to start it over again...
When you use Acquisition unregistered you get very frequent nag messages and it's quite annoying. The messages let you believe that a registered version would have "full features". But the truth is that I don't see any change after registering (besides the fact that I don't get nag messages anymore). The only added value is that you can access the "help" page on the web, which consists of a ridiculous FAQ addressing 4 common problems. I sent an email to the author asking for help, but never got any answer.
Anyway, it's still the P2P client that I prefer. Though it has some bugs, it's still more pleasant to use than other clients I've tried on OS X. |
