I tried this program with the willingness to put up with a few missing features in order to obtain a lightweight free program. I soon discovered that features were not the issue; it was the font display. AbiWord's display of fonts showed huge gaps in the middle of words where there was no space, making the screen totally unreadable. I tried printing the document, thinking it was just a screen bug, but it printed the same way. I read the release notes for this version and they still admit that "Note to Mac OSX users: please aware [sic] that the font rendering is still a work-in-progress. Depending on the fonts used the quality of the rendering may be sub-optimal." I am at a loss as to why they would even release a program for Mac that is not only sub-optimal, but completely unuseable. If you have a computer less than 4 years old, go with NeoOffice and don't waste your time with AbiWord.
