AudioExtract For Mac

AudioExtract is a self-explanatory Mac OS X application that helps you extract the audio from multiple video files at the same time.

You can use the batch processing tool to extract audio from digital movies and convert it to the desired audio format. Hence, you can extract and encode the audio to AIFF, SUN AU, System 7 Sound, 3GPP and MPEG-4 format.

What is more, AudioExtract is capable to convert between various sound formats and use only the audio part of your homemade footage when the video part is not usable.

AudioExtract provides two different interfaces, the Batch Mode and the Individual Mode. An interesting choice for such a basic app that can only output sound to a handful of audio formats. As expected, the Individual Mode allows you to extract audio from a single video files. You can set the output path, select the audio format and access the Sound Settings window.

From the Sound Settings window, you can choose the desired coded, set sampling frequency and choose between mono or stere and 8 bit or 16 bit. The Batch Mode offers you the same options with the only difference that you can load and process more than just one video at a time.

During the extraction and conversion process, you can view the currently performed task and view the estimated time required to complete the initiated tasks. By accessing the Preferences window you can configure AudioExtract to start either in Batch or Individual Mode. Moreover, you can allow AudioExtract to save format settings for future extraction tasks and start in the window mode used the last time.

Although AudioExtract comes with a simple and easy-to-use interface, the app falls short of its competitors. First of all, you cannot export to popular audio formats such as MP3, AAC and WAV or lossless audio formats like FLAC, OGG and others.

Secondly, AudioExtract needs an update when it comes to interface design and support for video files. As it is, AudioExtract presents itself as an overpriced and outdated audio extractor that can be easily replaced by various free apps.
