EZSwitch For Mac

EZSwitch is a nifty little OS X app that provides a faster way to sleep, restart, shut down or log out your computer from a compact menu bar panel. EZSwitch supports custom global hotkeys and can delay the time until a command is executed.

After launching EZSwitch, it will display a menu bar icon that you can click to view the available options. As specified, 4 different actions are available: Sleep, Restart, Shut Down and Log Out. A 5th button opens the preferences where you can change the delay time (in seconds) or toggle the sound when the countdown timer is active.

After using any of the 4 supported commands, a wide interface will be open and notify you that you computer will restart (for instance) after a preconfigured period of time. This interface basically works as a countdown timer. Fortunately, you can cancel the command by clicking on the interface.

As mentioned in the beginning, EZSwitch also supports global hotkeys for each action. You do not have much freedom in setting the hotkeys, though, as the supported combinations must begin with “ALT + CMD”. The third keys are provided by default, but you are allowed to define a custom one.

Taking all said into consideration, the EZSwitch’s functionality can come in handy in situations when you do not want to shut down or restart your Mac straight away, but after a brief delay time. The support for global hotkeys is also one of the app’s highlights. On top of that, EZSwitch comes with a free price tag.
