Enhanced AutoFill identifies fields in PDFs and other forms enabling you to populate them with information such as names and addresses from your contacts
Messages:
Catch-up arrow lets you easily jump to your first unread message in a conversation by tapping the arrow visible in the top-right corner
Add sticker option in the context menu lets you add a sticker directly to a bubble
Memoji updates include the ability to adjust the body shape of any Memoji
Contact Key Verification provides automatic alerts and Contact Verification Codes to help verify people facing extraordinary digital threats are messaging only with the people they intend
Weather:
Precipitation amounts help you stay on top of rain and snow conditions for a given day over the next 10 days
New widgets let you choose from next-hour precipitation, daily forecast, sunrise and sunset times, and current conditions such as Air Quality, Feels Like, and wind speed

Assistive Access distills apps and experiences to their essential features in Phone and FaceTime, Messages, Camera, Photos, and Music, including large text, visual alternatives, and focused choices for users with cognitive disabilities
Live Speech lets you type what you want to say and have it be spoken out loud in phone calls, FaceTime calls, or for in-person conversations
Personal Voice enables users who are at risk of losing their speech function to privately and securely create a voice that sounds like them on iPad, and use it with Live Speech in phone and FaceTime calls
Point and Speak in Magnifier Detection Mode uses iPad to read text out loud on physical objects with small text labels, such as keypads on doors and buttons on appliances

Scribble:
Handwrite in any text field:
With Scribble, you can use Apple Pencil to handwrite directly into a text field, and the writing will be converted to typed text. Transcription happens on your device, so all your writing stays private.
Scratch to delete:
New editing gestures help you write and edit with greater ease. Simply scratch a word or space to delete it.
Circle to select:
Circle a word to select it — perfect for when you need to copy or move a word.
Touch and hold to add space:
Touch and hold between words to add a space with your Apple Pencil.
Scribble shortcut palette:
The shortcut palette offers you the most commonly used actions for the app you’re using, so you can tap the palette without using the onscreen keyboard. For example, if you’re writing in Mail, the shortcut palette gives you options for font picker and image insertion, allowing you to quickly tap the option you want. In Reminders, you’ll find options for recent time and location settings you might need when you’re creating reminders.
Chinese support for Scribble:
Write in Simplified or Traditional Chinese using Scribble. In addition, Scribble supports mixed Chinese and English, so you can write English and Chinese words together without the need to switch languages — it’s a seamless experience that’s as easy as handwriting.

Smart Selection:
Use Smart Selection to select a single handwritten word or entire sentences using the same gestures you’ve always used for typed text. Double-tap for a word and triple-tap to select a sentence.
Smart Selection: Drag to select:
Sweep your Apple Pencil or finger over your handwriting to select entire paragraphs in a single motion. Accelerate to select large sections of handwriting and decelerate to gain greater precision; the slower you move, the more accurate the selection, so you can even select individual letters. If you’ve selected too much, simply sweep back to deselect words. Machine learning ensures that handwriting is selected instead of your drawings and doodles.
Copy and paste as text:
Select your handwritten notes, choose Copy as Text, and when you paste, they’ll be converted to typed text. The converted text retains the format of the original handwritten notes, making it perfect for anyone who prefers handwritten notes but likes keeping a digitized copy. Transcription happens on your device so all your writing stays private.
Make space:
Add or delete space between sentences or paragraphs in your handwritten notes by first selecting text and then dragging the small triangle that appears on the left up or down with your Apple Pencil or finger. You can also use the new Insert Space Above option in the callout bar, which will bring up a horizontal line that you can drag to add as much or little space as you need.
Data detectors:
Do more with your handwritten notes. On-device intelligence recognizes addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, and other data so you can take action on your handwritten notes. Simply tap the recognized data, and you’re given a choice of actions to take, such as opening a compose window in Mail or showing an address in Maps.
Shape recognition:
Shape recognition allows you to draw geometrically perfect lines, curves, and shapes, including hearts, stars, and arrows. Simply start drawing and pause slightly at the end, and your imperfect shape snaps into a perfect one. Shape recognition is great for drawing diagrams and quick sketches.

Cycling:
Maps now routes cyclists along bike lanes, bike paths, and bike‑friendly roads. Preview the elevation for your ride, check how busy a street is, and set routes to avoid steep inclines or stairs. Maps also offers custom cycling voice guidance and a rich experience on Apple Watch that makes it easy to navigate with a glance.
Electric vehicle routing:
Easily plan trips with your electric vehicle. Maps automatically adds charging stops along your route and even accounts for charging time when calculating the ETA. Once you securely add your electric vehicle on your iPad, Maps can keep track of things like the current charge and charger type to give you the best route for your vehicle.
Congestion zones:
Major cities like London and Paris have congestion zones to help reduce traffic in dense areas. Maps lets you see congestion zone tolls on the map and can route you around them if you like.
New map available in more countries:
Our new map is coming to more countries later this year, including Canada, Ireland, and the UK. The new map offers richer detail for roads, buildings, parks, marinas, beaches, airports, and more, giving you a more realistic view of the world.
License plate access:
For cities in China that limit driving through dense urban areas, you can see if you have access based on your vehicle’s eligibility.10 Enter your license plate number in Maps to determine if you have permission to go through the area or if you need to go around it. License plate information is stored securely in Maps and never leaves your device.
Home:
Suggested automations:
When you add a new accessory, the Home app will suggest useful ways for it to run automatically. You can do things like enable your porch lights to turn on each evening, open the garage door as you arrive home, and more.
Home status:
A new visual status at the top of the Home app gives you a summary of accessories that require your attention, have important status changes to share, or can be quickly controlled.
Home controls:
Home controls in Control Center now dynamically suggest the most relevant accessories and scenes you’ll likely want to control based on the time of day and how often you normally use them. For example, you may see controls for bedroom lights and a good morning scene in the morning, or controls for the door lock and outdoor lights when you arrive home in the evening. You can tap the Home icon to see other accessories and scenes as well.
Adaptive Lighting for smart light bulbs:
Light bulbs that change color can be automatically adjusted throughout the day to maximize comfort and productivity. You can ease into morning with warmer colors, stay focused and alert midday with cooler colors, and wind down at night by removing blue light.
Face Recognition for video cameras and doorbells:
In addition to person, animal, and vehicle detection, security cameras can identify people you’ve tagged in the Photos app for richer activity notifications. Easily tag people, and choose to be notified based on the person.
Activity Zones for video cameras and doorbells:
With HomeKit Secure Video, you can define Activity Zones within a camera’s view to capture video or receive notifications only when motion is detected in those areas.

Favicons in tabs by default:
Favicons appear in tabs by default — allowing you to identify your open tabs at a glance.
Beta Web page translation:
Easily translate entire web pages in Safari. When you encounter a compatible web page, Safari displays a translate icon in the address field. Just tap to translate into English, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, French, German, Russian, or Brazilian Portuguese.
Website Privacy Report:
Tap the Privacy Report button for access to a Privacy Report showing you all the cross-site trackers that are being blocked by Intelligent Tracking Prevention in Safari.
Password monitoring:
Safari securely monitors your saved passwords, automatically keeping an eye out for passwords that may have been involved in a data breach. To do this, Safari uses strong cryptographic techniques to regularly check derivations of your passwords against a list of breached passwords in a secure and private way that doesn’t reveal your password information — even to Apple. If Safari discovers a breach, it can help you upgrade to Sign in with Apple when available, or automatically generate a new secure password.
Performance:
With a blazing-fast JavaScript engine, Safari is the world’s fastest tablet browser, outperforming Windows browsers in benchmark after benchmark.
AirPods:
Spatial audio:
Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking brings the movie theater experience right to your AirPods Pro.14 By applying directional audio filters and subtly adjusting the frequencies each ear receives, spatial audio can place sounds virtually anywhere in space, creating an immersive surround sound experience. Using the gyroscope and accelerometer in your AirPods Pro and your iPad, spatial audio tracks the motion of your head as well as your device, compares the motion data, and then remaps the sound field so that it stays anchored to your device even as your head moves.
Headphone Accommodations:
This new accessibility feature is designed to amplify soft sounds and adjust certain frequencies for an individual’s hearing, to help music, movies, phone calls, and podcasts sound more crisp and clear.15 Headphone Accommodations also supports Transparency mode on AirPods Pro, making quiet voices more audible and tuning the sounds of your environment to your hearing needs.

Trait environments, such as views and view controllers, now have their traitCollection property populated with traits during initialization. These initial traits represent a prediction of the ultimate traits that the trait environment will receive when it gets added to the hierarchy. Because the traits that are populated during initialization are just a prediction, they might differ from the traits that are received once actually in the hierarchy. Therefore, when possible you should wait to perform work that uses the traitCollection until the view, or view controller’s view, has moved into the hierarchy — meaning window returns a non-nil value — so that you don’t have to throw away any work done using the predicted traits if the actual traits are different. The best time to use the traitCollection is during layout, such as inside layoutSubviews(), viewWillLayoutSubviews(), or viewDidLayoutSubviews().
The traitCollectionDidChange(_:) method is only called when the value of a trait changes. Importantly, because the trait collection is now initialized to a prediction of the ultimate traits in the destination hierarchy, when the initial predicted traits match the ultimate traits in the hierarchy, traitCollectionDidChange(_:) will not be called when the trait environment is added to the hierarchy. Because traitCollectionDidChange(_:) is intended to be an invalidation callback to notify you that one or more traits changed, audit your existing implementations of this method, as well as the UIContentContainer method willTransition(to:with:), for places where you might have been relying on it to trigger initial setup. Night Shift:
When enabled, Night Shift uses your iOS device’s clock and geolocation to determine when it’s sunset in your location, then it automatically shifts the colors in your display to the warmer end of the spectrum and may even help you get a better night’s sleep.

Apple ID - Fixed:

If you enter an incorrect verification code for a two-factor authentication account in Setup Assistant, it may hang.
During Setup Assistant, tapping Cancel on the prompt that prompts you to enter the code for two-factor authentication will result in getting stuck at the login screen.
Apps that use app-specific passwords cause multiple notifications if your account uses two-factor authentication

AirPlay:
AirPlay connectivity issues with Apple TV.
Apple ID:
If you change your primary email address on appleid.apple.com, you may not be able to authenticate on device (including signing out of Find My iPhone).
Workaround: First, change your email back to the previous email on appleid.apple.com. Then sign out and back in on your device.
Apple Pay:
You cannot present the Apple Pay sheet if you request PKAddressFieldName for your required shipping address fields.
AVFoundation:
AVQueuePlayer now supports a mixture of file-based media and HTTP Live Streaming media in its queue. Prior to this, you had to ensure that all items in the queue were of the same type.
For apps linked against iOS 9 or later, the media interruption behavior for AV(Queue)Player has changed.
Before iOS 9, apps could interrupt other media-playing clients by associating or adding AVPlayerItem to AVPlayer or by modifying the time or date of the current AVPlayerItem (using the seekToTime: or seekToDate: methods). In iOS 9, these operations interrupt only when AVPlayer object’s playback rate is changed to a non-zero value through the rate property or play method.
Picture in Picture playback might stop and the Picture in Picture button might disappear when using AVPlayerViewController for video playback and replacing the underlying AVPlayer object’s current item using replaceCurrentItemWithPlayerItem:.
The AVPictureInPictureController interface and cancelPictureInPicture method are deprecated.
Bluetooth:
Incoming cellular call audio may not route to certain Bluetooth headsets.
Workaround: Route audio away from Bluetooth headset (for example, to the phone speaker) and back.
CarPlay:
When you turn off your vehicle with a device still attached to a CarPlay-enabled head unit, the device may become completely unresponsive and require a hard reboot.
iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, and iPad Air 2 devices may not work with CarPlay.
CBCentralManager:
Apps that use CBCentralManager (particularly retrievePeripherals: and retrieveConnectedPeripherals) will crash on launch or upon pairing an accessory. CBCentralManager was deprecated in iOS 7.0 and has been removed in iOS 9.0.
Contacts:
LDAP and GAL servers aren’t queried for autocompletion.
You may receive CNContactStoreDidChangeNotification and not know if it was one of your CNContactStore instances that trigged the notification.
Family Sharing:
Changing your password prevents the Family section of iCloud Settings from loading.
Foundation:
https connections are displayed as https connections. Note: Horizontal location constraints should consistently reference either left/right OR leading/trailing attributes. For apps linked against the iOS 9 SDK, NSLayoutConstraint will throw an exception if you attempt to create a constraint between a leading/trailing attribute AND a left/right attribute.
HomeKit:
Accessories may not be removed from the HMAccessoryBrowser object after being added to a home.
HMLocationEvent currently supports only CLCircularRegion.
iOS 9 does not currently accept Home invitations from iOS 8.
iCloud Backup:
Restoring from a backup created in iOS 9 is slower than restoring from a backup created in iOS 8 or earlier.
You may see an incorrect “iCloud Backup” alert that suggests your device hasn’t backed up when it has backed up successfully.
Keyboards:
Third party keyboards don't work in search results.
Third party keyboards may get removed from the list of active keyboards in apps.
Workaround: Add keyboards again from Keyboard Settings
Keychain:
When using the Setup Assistant to enable iCloud Keychain, the SMS verification code may not autopopulate if the SMS is received on the same device.
SecKeyGeneratePair may sometimes fail to generate a key that is stored in secure enclave (kSecAttrTokenIDSecureEnclave).
Keychain items created with kSecAccessControlUserPresence access control list are using global Touch ID credential for 10 minutes. When an iPhone is unlocked by Touch ID, these items reuse the Touch ID unlock information and do not ask for new authentication. When the iPhone is unlocked using a passcode, the items require Touch ID.
Local Authentication setCredential fails to set application password for keychain operation.
SecRequestSharedWebCredential does not show the user name picker.
Maps:
Navigation steps, instructions, and display will not update properly if your iPhone is paired to an Apple Watch and the iPhone screen is locked.
Mail:
Mail crashes when trying to print a message.
MDM:
The AvailableOSUpdates MDM command fails on unsupervised devices as an unknown command. The command succeeds only on supervised DEP-enrolled devices.
Multitasking:
When displayed in multitasking scenarios, secondary apps cannot be pinned, unpinned, or resized if VoiceOver is enabled. Workaround: Disable VoiceOver in Settings > General > Accessibility to resume functionality of these multitasking gestures.
iPad Air Simulator does not have limited multitasking capabilities (overlay and PiP only). In this beta, there is no difference between the iPad Air and iPad Air 2 Simulators.
App switcher continuity does not function in this beta. If you need to test continuity, you can test it on the lock screen.
Notes:
After upgrading Notes in iOS 9 Beta 1, Notes will not sync using iTunes on Windows.
Podcasts:
The search page does not always load or provide results.
The subscribe button is slow to respond to user’s touches.
When using multitasking, the Podcast app crashes when reducing to 50% and then increasing to 66%.
Safari:
Content Blockers with invalid JSONs are not loaded.
Setting a tintColor on SFSafariViewController doesn’t apply.
Notes:
“Find on Page” is now available both from the Share sheet as well as in the Completions List.
Request Desktop Site has moved. It’s now in the Share sheet instead of Favorites.
Web Browser–to–Native App Handoff does not work with your app if the apple-app-site-association file isn’t correctly formatted and signed. Please see the Handoff Programming Guide and the Shared Web Credentials Reference for more information.
Search:
Indexing a Core Spotlight item with a thumbnail does not show the thumbnail or description in search results.
All NSUserActivity objects get indexed and displayed in Spotlight (not just the ones that are marked searchable).
Settings:
The Cellular Data page may be blank after swapping SIM cards.
Tapping Settings > iCloud > AppleID may be unresponsive the first few times. Workaround: Please try again. It eventually works.
Setup Assistant:
Choosing the Disagree button on the iCloud terms pane does not let you proceed.
Siri:
In Siri Suggestions on iPad, attempting to call, message, or FaceTime a contact with multiple addresses causes Springboard to crash.
UIKit:
openURL: only works with URL schemes declared in an app’s Info.plist.
VPN:
If you have the Developer Disk Image package installed, AlwaysOn VPN tunnel does not establish.
If both Cellular and Wi-Fi tunnels are up, occasionally the Cellular tunnel will become the default route instead of the Wi-Fi tunnel.
Occasionally interface UP / DOWN events are not handled, which leads to the tunnel not being brought up or torn down immediately.
WebKit:
The new API to load local files currently doesn’t work for loading files inside the app bundle.

Impact: An attacker with a privileged network position may intercept SSL/TLS connections
Description: Secure Transport accepted short ephemeral RSA keys, usually used only in export-strength RSA cipher suites, on connections using full-strength RSA cipher suites. This issue, also
known as FREAK, only affected connections to servers which support export-strength RSA cipher suites, and was addressed by removing support for ephemeral RSA keys.
