  • Added the option to define “Panavision” as 2.40:1 or 2.39:1. This preference modifies how aspectRatio defines Panavision when executing tasks in the Fixed Calculator, when selecting the Static Preset (in the Custom Calculator), and when reviewing Relative Crop variations (in the Crop Calculator).
  • Rearranged the order of the aspect ratios located in the Fixed Calculator’s Mode Selector.
  • Added modern DCI 2K and 4K presets to the the Custom Calculator.

  • Crop Calculator:
  • The new aspectRatio Crop Calculator displays the amount of pixels that need to be cropped from the top and bottom of a 16x9 frame when letterboxing an image for a more “cinematic” look. Video outputs will exhibit a full frame image view of the target aspect ratio. Currently aspectRatio supports 1.78:1 sources, and relative 2.35:1/2.4:1 targets.
  • You can toggle the designation of the Output target (Width or Height) by switching the state of the segmented control.

  • Custom Ratio Preset Matrix: When the Custom View is displayed, a button will appear labeled Aspect Ratio Presets. This button raises a sheet with a matrix of ratios that will be inserted into the Custom Width and Height source fields. Simply click the corresponding insert button to append a preset.

New in aspectRatio 1.10 (Dec 29, 2009)

  • The main (and only) program window now consists of two individual views: Fixed and Custom Calculations. The user can select a view with the Segmented Control, located at the bottom right of the application window. Additional fixed calculation action buttons previously accessible on various "sheets" are now located in a new lower Drawer.
  • Rearranged (and renamed) the order of the top level conversion buttons (1.33:1, 1.5:1, 1.78:1).
  • Additional main window Format Display optimization.
  • The Clear All Fields action now functions independently for each view.

New in aspectRatio 1.9 (Oct 4, 2009)

  • If custom calculated output dimensions are not evenly divisible by 16, the aspectRatio Custom Conversion utility will now suggest evenly divisible high/low values.
  • Select MPEG formats are based on 16×16 macro-blocks. Output dimensions evenly divisible by 16 will maximize encoder efficiency and yield optimum results.
  • New Preferences Panel with a new option to set the font color of the calculated numerical output displays.
  • The code for the Main Window formats display has been rewritten.
  • New multi-view Help panel.
  • A Main Application Window selection option has been added to the Window menu. If the main application window is inadvertently closed while the application is still running, this option will re-display the main window.
  • Updated the Sparkle Framework to ver.1.5 b6. This includes DSA Signatures for enhanced security.
