WordsFlow Changelog

What's new in WordsFlow 2.7

Oct 18, 2016
  • This release adds support for change tracking, moves to -> as the style group separator in exported Word files, and fixes some issues with updating, exporting, and unlinking:
  • Adds change marks to stories that have Track Changes enabled to make merge results from updating and relinking visible in InDesign’s Story Editor.
  • Adds a warning when updating from a linked document that’s busy (open in Word, for example) instead of letting InDesign disable Update Link with no explanation.
  • Displays the Import Options dialog when a file is dragged and dropped onto a document page with the Alt/Option key held down.
  • Switches to -> as the style group separator instead of : or /.
  • Allows the auto-creation of style groups when importing a Word document that uses -> as group separators in style names.
  • Fixes a problem where the “flattened” styles fix in the 2.6.9 release wasn’t handling style names containing one or more colons.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in the 2.6.8 release that was allowing WordsFlow to highjack DocsFlow links.
  • Works around an intermittent problem with some fonts (such as “Glamor Medium”) that could cause updates to fail with a ParseError when updating from a linked Word file.
  • Fixes a problem that was disabling the Unlink menu if the selected link was found by InDesign’s Find Missing Links Before Opening Document feature when WordsFlow wasn’t present.
  • Fixes an export problem with composite fonts.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in the 2.6.8 release which could cause updates to fail due to table modifications.
  • Fixes a problem where updating a story containing cross-references could cause InDesign to freeze.

New in WordsFlow 2.6.10 (Sep 6, 2016)

  • Changes:
  • Fixes a problem where exporting an already-linked story would leave the story with multiple links.
  • Fixes Export with WordsFlow… to create links that can be removed with Unlink.

New in WordsFlow 2.6.8 (Aug 3, 2016)

  • Fixes a problem with Export with WordsFlow where the suggested file name wouldn’t match the document’s name if it contained segments separated by periods. Now, the suggested name for a document named xxx.yyy.indd will be xxx.yyy.docx instead of xxx.docx.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in WordsFlow 2.6.4 that caused an “Unhandled exception (ParseError)” error when using a font with a character special to xml (like &) in its name.
  • Fixes a problem which inadvertently disabled WordsFlow’s “smart styling” for documents imported with InDesign’s Remove Styles and Formatting from Text and Tables option.
  • Fixes an issue which had WordsFlow attempting to handle some flavors of placed eps images.
  • Fixes a problem which could cause an import of an odt file containing a numbered list to fail.
  • Fixes a problem where updating a story with a table containing a graphic cell with mixed content caused InDesign to shut down.
  • Fixes a situation where WordsFlow wasn’t adhering to its “InDesign wins styling changes” update policy.
  • Fixes a rare problem that caused some updates to fail with an “Unhandled exception (KeyError)” error.
  • Fixes a problem where an update could lose a non-rectangular frame’s applied object style.
  • Improves font and font style (bold/italic) selection in DOCX exports.
  • Fixes a problem that caused exported DOCX files to Place with bad formatting if not first “cleansed” by opening and saving them in Word.
  • Fixes a problem which prevented Word from opening an exported odt file if it contained footnotes.
  • Fixes a problem which caused exports containing cell tints with fractional values (like 60.5%) to fail.
  • Fixes DOCX exports to include bullets and numbering properties in paragraph styles.
  • Fixes the indentation level of lists in DOCX exports.
  • Fixes a problem which allowed DOCX exports to contain more than Word’s limit of 64 tab positions.
  • Changes how WordsFlow exports based-on styles for better LibreOffice compatibility.

New in WordsFlow 2.6.7 (May 6, 2016)

  • Fixes a problem introduced in the 2.6.4 release that could cause InDesign to shut down when placing, updating, or relinking a story making use of a font with a short name (three characters or less, like “Sen”). (InDesign CC or later only)
  • Fixes a problem where a WordsFlow icon/badge could appear on some imported InCopy/icml stories. InCopy files are now properly ignored.

New in WordsFlow 2.6.6 (Apr 6, 2016)

  • Fixes a problem introduced with the 2.6.4 release that could occasionally cause InDesign to shut down when placing, updating, or relinking a story.
  • Works around an InDesign crash when updating or relinking content containing tables (Excel files/sheets) with text threads visible.
  • Works around a long-standing InDesign problem where its Find Missing Links Before Opening Document feature would corrupt a WordsFlow link and cause the Links panel menu’s Unlink to become disabled.
  • Fixes inheritance issues with paragraph rules (above, below) when exporting to Word.
  • Fixes a problem where styles in imported odt documents could overwrite the corresponding styles in InDesign

New in WordsFlow 2.6.5 (Mar 26, 2016)

  • Fixes a problem where deleting tables in a story could prevent the story from being updated.
  • Fixes a bug introduced with the 2.6.4 release where pasting text into a linked story could cause the WordsFlow connection (and badge) to disappear.
  • Fixes a problem introduced with the 2.6.4 release where placing or updating a document could sometimes cause InDesign to spontaneously shut down (especially in CS5).

New in WordsFlow 2.6.4 (Mar 1, 2016)

  • Provides a warning when a Place that would normally create a link doesn’t (due to the active tool and/or selection).
  • Works around an InDesign bug where deleting a placed Word story containing out-of-date cross-references can cause InDesign to shut down.
  • Fixes a problem where a link update of a Word file containing hyperlinks or cross-references could cause InDesign to shut down.
  • Fixes a problem where extra page breaks could show up in exported Word documents if Start Paragraph was set for some paragraph styles.
  • Fixes a problem where WordsFlow might continue to manage a story (and display its badge) after a Relink to a text format not supported by WordsFlow (like icml).
  • Fixes the export of cell styling that’s applied in the Cell Styles section of the the table’s definition.

New in WordsFlow 2.6.2 (Oct 10, 2015)

  • Changes:
  • Fixes a problem where a link update could cause InDesign to freeze if the style that was active when the file was placed had been renamed, deleted, or moved.
  • Fixes a problem that could cause anchored text frames to lose their settings during updates.
  • Fixes a problem that was preventing docx exports for stories containing images referenced in other parts of the document.
  • Fixes a problem that could prevent (moved) text from being exported to a Word document.
  • Improves the display of the WordsFlow text frame link badge, although it may still disappear and reappear randomly at higher zoom levels. (CC 2015 only)
  • Works around an InDesign problem which was preventing WordsFlow > Update Linked Document from being enabled when the link’s Story Status was showing as modified. (CS5 only)

New in WordsFlow 2.6 (Jun 20, 2015)

  • Adds support for InDesign CC 2015. The CC 2015 plug-in requires a valid WordsFlow CC 2015-level license. Please contact our sales department to purchase an upgrade license from a pre-CC 2015 plug-in or to see if you qualify for a free upgrade.
  • Abandons Adobe’s Extension Manager CC application as the preferred means of installing CC plug-ins. Because Adobe has deprecated Extension Manager, and, more importantly, because the latest Extension Manager update appears to break installation with zxp files altogether (not that it was ever all that reliable), we have decided to move away from Extension Manager and zxp-based installs. While we work on creating our own, custom installers, we will be providing our CC plug-ins as manual installations. What this means is that you will need to select the download link in the sidebar that’s appropriate for your OS (Mac OS or Windows), expand the downloaded zip file, and then drag files out of the archive and drop them your InDesign app’s Plug-ins folder (for which you’ll need administrative privileges). Step-by-step installation instructions are included in the readme within the archive.

New in WordsFlow 2.5 (Jun 13, 2015)

  • Adds support for exporting table styles to DOCX files.
  • Adds support for exporting cell background tints.
  • Adds support for exporting stories containing anchored text frames. Since Word doesn’t allow for nested text boxes, InDesign’s anchored text frames are ignored and their content is inserted into the exported story inline.
  • Exports InDesign discretionary hyphens to Word as optional hyphens.
  • Exports InDesign Notes to Word as comments.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in 2.4 where selecting a link group in the Links panel with the Sheet or Cell Range info visible would cause InDesign to shut down.
  • Fixes a problem with Export with WordsFlow… that could cause styling differences in subsequent link updates (and could actually change the InDesign story being exported).
  • Fixes a problem where Update Linked Document would fail if the file’s path contained international or accent characters.
  • Fixes a problem where exporting text with bold or italic styling would ignore overrides that removed the bold or italic styling.
  • Fixes a problem that was preventing some blank paragraphs from being exported.
  • Fixes a problem that was preventing updates from working when the story contained damaged hyperlinks.

New in WordsFlow 2.4.2 (Mar 13, 2015)

  • Fixes a problem where updating a story containing anchored, linked pictures or text could damage the WordsFlow connection and result in a “missing base snapshot” error.
  • Fixes a problem where updating a WordsFlow story would damage the connection of any WordsFlow-managed stories anchored within that story. With this fix, nested, anchored WordsFlow (or DocsFlow, for that matter) content is now supported. For example, an imported Excel sheet can now be anchored within a placed Word document such that both the sheet and the document remain updateable.
  • Fixes an export bug which could produce corrupt docx files if any glyph fonts (like Webdings, Wingdings, etc.) were used as bullet characters.
  • Cleans up tab translation issues with Word exports.
  • Fixes a problem where numbered lists in exported documents were being reset by bullet lists.
  • Fixes a problem where a WordsFlow-managed story placed from a snippet, library, or an IDML file would always have a Story Status of “Text Modified”.
  • Fixes a problem where the “damaged” WordsFlow frame badge would only display if the story hadn’t been edited.

New in WordsFlow 2.4.1 (Feb 27, 2015)

  • Patches an InDesign bug that could produce erratically-styled text when importing a Word or Excel file without first selecting the [None] character style. WordsFlow now automatically activates the [None] character style for any import initiated with Place with WordsFlow.
  • Fixes a problem where the styling applied to text that had been imported from a Word or Excel file as “unformatted” could change unexpectedly after an Update or a Relink. Unfortunately, existing Word and Excel links will need to be re-Placed to take advantage of this fix.
  • Works around a Word limitation that could cause styles with spaces, underlines, or symbols in their names to be lost when re-importing text that was previously exported by WordsFlow and then edited in Word.
  • Fixes a situation where an Export with WordsFlow to an existing but busy file would fail without any notice. WordsFlow will now show a “…the file is already open by another application or another user on the network and cannot be replaced until it has been closed” alert.

New in WordsFlow 2.4 (Feb 20, 2015)

  • Changes:
  • Adds Sheet and Cell Range fields to the Links panel. Access the Panel Options dialog from the Links panel’s menu to enable the display of an Excel link’s sheet name and cell range as columns in the Links panel or as fields in the panel’s Link Info area. We’re not sure why Adobe has never added these fields themselves, but we’ve found them handy for working with Excel links… and we hope you do to!
  • Adds export support for fill colors applied to text frames.
  • Adds export support for fill colors in styles applied to text frames and table cells.
  • Adds export support for numbering patterns using “^”.
  • Fixes an insidious issue when placing and updating many Excel files that was resulting in damaged links and “Cannot update link…” errors. We found that during updates and relinks, InDesign was substituting a link’s sheet name with that of the most-recently placed sheet behind WordsFlow’s back, leaving links with a connection to the proper Excel file but the wrong sheet. This mismatch was then causing InDesign to complain and fail during the next update.
  • If you have placed and updated from multiple Excel files, then those links may have already been damaged. To see if they are, use the Links panel to view their Sheet reference (see top bullet, above). If the sheet name is incorrect, you can use Relink to repair the link. Be sure to Show Import Options for the Relink and to then select the correct sheet and cell range.
  • Fixes a problem with documents opened from idml files that was causing Excel links to update or relink with the incorrect settings.
  • Fixes a problem with exported stories containing vertically-centered text with nested text frames that could prevent Word from opening the resulting document.
  • Addresses an issue with exported files being immediately reimported where some fonts were being replaced with the default font.
  • Fixes an export problem where stories containing hyperlinks could create a damaged Word document.
  • Addresses an issue where some fonts were being exported with a “$ID/” prefix.
  • Fixes a problem where exporting a column break would generate an extra, empty paragraph.
  • Fixes a problem where exporting stories with anchored text frames could lead to duplicated content.

New in WordsFlow 2.3.1 (Jan 7, 2015)

  • Fixes the handling of InDesign’s “Start Paragraph” attribute to start an exported paragraph with page, column or frame alignment on a new page in the Word document.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in 2.1.2 where merged cells within tables could be split for no apparent reason.
  • Fixes a problem with scaling and rotation values applied to exported images.
  • Fixes a problem that was preventing the export of images and hyperlinks from within footnotes.
  • Fixes a rare situation where a story update might never finish.
  • Fixes a problem where exported colors were not always accurate.

New in WordsFlow 2.3.0 (Dec 10, 2014)

  • Introduces a new, fully functional Pro-product trial mode with a 15-day evaluation period to replace our old feature-limited (single link) demo mode.
  • WordsFlow no longer asks for a license when InDesign is started; instead, WordsFlow now asks for a license only when it is first used. If no license is provided, your 15-day trial will begin. You’ll then have 15 days to try all of WordsFlow’s features in your fully functional, Pro-level trial.
  • Your WordsFlow trial will provide you with an opportunity to purchase (Get License will take you to our online store) and enter a license code once per day. You can purchase or enter a license code at any time during the trial, without re-downloading or re-installing WordsFlow, using the trial’s License… menu.
  • You can check on your remaining evaluation balance at any time by bringing up WordsFlow’s About dialog.
  • Exports anchored text frames to docx files.
  • Adds support for Relink-ing pictures directly to text documents.
  • Fixes a problem where hidden text could be lost during story updates.
  • Fixes a hyperlink export problem that could cause Word to complain about document corruption.
  • Fixes a loss of cell styling during story updates in rare situations.

New in WordsFlow 2.2 (Nov 12, 2014)

  • This release adds scripting support for Pro version features.
  • Changes:
  • Adds scripting support for linked document updating and story exporting. (Pro only)
  • (Note that WordsFlow’s non-Pro linking and updating features are invoked through the normal InDesign actions.)
  • Fixes a problem where using Export with WordsFlow could cause InDesign CC to crash when quitting. (CC+/Mac only)
  • Works around a rare InDesign bug that could prevent fonts from being applied to exported Word documents.

New in WordsFlow 2.1.2 (Oct 23, 2014)

  • Adds language support to docx exports and fixes a couple of issues with Update Linked Document.
  • Changes:
  • Includes the text’s language attributes when exporting to a docx file.
  • Fixes a problem where Export with WordsFlow and Update Linked Document could fail without reporting an error if the story being exported contained a table with spanned columns.
  • Fixes a problem where Update Linked Document was disabled if the Links panel wasn’t visible.
  • Fixes a problem where updating a linked docx file could add extraneous elements (styles, colors, swatches, etc.) to the document.

New in WordsFlow 2.1.1 (Oct 8, 2014)

  • Changes:
  • Fixes an incompatibility with the just-released InDesign CC 2014.1 update.
  • Works around an InDesign CC 2014.1 change that could cause InDesign to shut down when creating a new document. (CC 2014.1 only)
  • Fixes a problem where text containing change tracking information wouldn’t export to a docx file.
  • Fixes a problem where a cell’s fill color might not update correctly from its linked Excel file.

New in WordsFlow 2.1 (Sep 17, 2014)

  • Allows Export with WordsFlow when a text frame is selected with InDesign’s Selection Tool.
  • Adds support for image cropping when exporting to a Word document.
  • Adds support for more image formats when exporting to a Word document.
  • Changes the default format for files created with Export with WordsFlow to Word 2007 (docx).
  • Fixes a problem where Export with WordsFlow would sometimes not be enabled with a text selection.
  • Fixes a problem where exported images could be smaller than the original.
  • Fixes an issue where some color swatches could cause a Word export to fail.
  • Fixes a problem that would cause Word to show a warning when opening an exported document containing nested tables.
  • Fixes a problem where a document with a very long, linked story (hundreds of pages) could take much longer to open than it would without WordsFlow installed.

New in WordsFlow 2.0.3 (Sep 2, 2014)

  • Adds Pro-level features that, like DocsFlow Pro, completes the workflow cycle and makes WordsFlow fully two-way. With the Pro version, you can now update your Word documents in place with the latest linked InDesign story contents, and you can export’n’link any InDesign story to a new Word document as well.
  • Changes:
  • Adds support for a two-way workflow by allowing a story to be saved back to its linked Word document in place using File > WordsFlow > Update Linked Document. (Pro only)
  • Adds support for exporting a story to a newly-created and automatically-linked file using File > WordsFlow > Export with WordsFlow…. (Pro only)
  • Adds support for exporting text as Microsoft Word 2007-format (.docx) files. (Pro only)
  • Adds support for importing text from and exporting text to Open Document Text (.odt) files. (Pro only)
  • Updates support for spreadsheets to require a Pro-level license.

New in WordsFlow 1.3 (Aug 8, 2014)

  • Adds support for back-saving to older versions of InDesign via IDML, for storing WordsFlow-linked stories in library elements, and for preserving WordsFlow links through drag’n’dropped snippets and when using WordsFlow-linked stories with InCopy.
  • Adds a handy story status indicator to the WordsFlow link icon. When a + appears on the WordsFlow link icon, it means that the associated InDesign story has been modified in some way since it was imported or last updated. (CS6+ only)
  • Fixes a problem where updating after deleting and then recovering table rows or columns might fail.

New in WordsFlow 1.2.4 (Jul 19, 2014)

  • Fixes a problem where running out of memory during an update could cause InDesign to shut down. Now, the update is canceled and an out-of-memory alert is displayed.

New in WordsFlow 2.0 Beta 2 (Jul 17, 2014)

  • Fixes a critical and frequently-hit bug in WordsFlow Pro export.

New in WordsFlow 1.2.3 (Jul 15, 2014)

  • Adds support for InDesign CC 2014. The CC 2014 plug-in is a free update from CC that requires a valid WordsFlow CC-level or CC 2014-level (version 9 or 10) license. Please contact our sales department to purchase an upgrade license from a pre-CC plug-in or to see if you qualify for a free upgrade.
  • Fixes a problem introduced in 1.2.2 where an update could cause a table row or column that had been deleted in InDesign to reappear for no reason.
  • Works around an InDesign bookmark problem that could cause InDesign to shut down when exporting to PDF.
  • Prevents unnamed colors from being lost during an update.
  • Prevents the loss of footnote changes in InDesign when a large portion of the footnote has been deleted in the linked file.

New in WordsFlow 2.0 Beta 1 (Jul 8, 2014)

  • WordsFlow Pro adds two items to its File > WordsFlow > menu: Update Linked Document and Export with WordsFlow… (both of which are also available in a contextual menu on the story when editing, and in the Links panel when a WordsFlow-linked story is selected).
  • Update Linked Document (only available when the link is up to date) will update the linked Word document with the contents of the current InDesign story, re-creating as far as possible the look and feel of the InDesign contents (fonts, spacing, indents, etc.). (We realize that some users may want to not disturb the current formatting of the Word document, but only merge in the textual changes, and that’s on our road map, though not immediate.) Note bene: Please be sure the Word document you’re trying to update isn’t open in Word or in another application, or you may silently lose data.
  • Export with WordsFlow… (only available when you’re in text editing mode in a story) will create a new Word document with the current contents of the current InDesign story, re-creating the look and feel as above, and linking the current story to the newly-created Word document. (Note that we don’t support exporting to Excel spreadsheets yet, though we’ll eventually get there.)

New in WordsFlow 1.2.2 (Jan 3, 2014)

  • Improves how table conflicts are handled during updates, where a table row or column that’s been deleted on one side of the link is now retained (or resurrected) if the text content of any of its constituent cells has been changed on the other. The resulting “zombie” row/column will contain conflict markers to indicate the edited cells.
  • Fixes a problem where merge conflicts could cause an update to fail.

New in WordsFlow 1.2.1 (Nov 2, 2013)

  • Adds support for InDesign CC. The CC plug-in requires a valid WordsFlow CC-level license. Please contact our sales department to purchase an upgrade license or obtain a free upgrade if you purchased WordsFlow on or after January 1, 2013.
  • Fixes a problem that could, in rare situations, prevent WordsFlow from updating documents with linked text frames.
  • Fixes a problem that could cause updates with many table cell changes to fail.
  • Fixes occasional loss of styling within tables and anchored text frames.
  • Fixes a problem where a document with deleted style groups could cause an update to fail.

New in WordsFlow 1.2.0 (Sep 18, 2013)

  • Changes:
  • Adds a WordsFlow link icon to the frames of all WordsFlow-managed stories. The icon will show for newly imported and updated stories but not, unfortunately, for existing linked stories.
  • Works around an InDesign bug where updating a story containing custom-anchored frames would cause InDesign to shut down. Since this InDesign problem, which we’ve observed in all versions of InDesign from CS5 through CS6, affects any ICML import containing custom-anchored frames, we took a few extra moments to make our solution guard any ICML import, including those initiated by, say, InCopy, against shutdowns.
  • Adds conflict markers, displayed as InDesign Notes, to show where WordsFlow resolved a merge conflict that may require additional attention. InDesign’s Notes panel (Window > Editorial > Notes) can then be used to select, view, and remove conflict markers that were inserted during an update.
  • Improves the resolution of merge conflicts by letting the Word/Excel text always “win” for content order and the InDesign story always “win” for formatting. For example, when updating an InDesign story from a Word document, if the same piece of text has been moved in both, then WordsFlow will let the Word text determine the location of the resulting piece of text in the merged InDesign story. Similarly, if both have style changes to the same piece of text, then WordsFlow will let the InDesign story determine how the resulting piece of text is styled. As noted above, a conflict marker (in the form of an InDesign Note) will be inserted at the location of any such conflict.
  • Fixes a problem where a copy of a linked story might not update or relink properly.
  • Fixes a problem where the Import Options dialog of a Relink of a Word document was showing the current default settings rather than the import’s original settings.
  • Fixes a problem where pasting a WordsFlow-linked frame could cause InDesign to shut down.
  • Improves error reporting when an update fails for some reason.
  • Improves the handling of quote characters, hyphens, and non-breaking spaces during updates.
  • Improves character style-level conflict handling.
  • Fixes a problem where a story linked to a Word document that was originally placed with the import option Remove Styles and Formatting from Text and Tables selected would lose all styling during an update.
  • Fixes a problem where deleted hyperlinks could cause an update to hang.

New in WordsFlow 1.1.1 (Apr 17, 2013)

  • Changes:
  • Fixes a problem reintroduced in 1.1 where updating from a linked Excel document with deleted rows/columns could cause unexpected formatting changes.
  • Fixes a problem where table styles applied to linked Excel documents could be lost during an update.
  • Works around an InDesign limitation which was causing Word and Excel documents to lose their import options during updates.
  • Fixes a problem where InDesign could shut down if a story was relinked to a file.
  • Preserves the original import’s Import Options through a relink.

New in WordsFlow 1.1 (Mar 8, 2013)

  • Moves the WordsFlow menu to the File menu and adds dedicated Place with WordsFlow… and Place without WordsFlow… actions.
  • Improves the handling of text differences where only the case has changed.
  • Improves greatly the handling of tables, table movement, row/column movement, and cell movement and spanning during updates.
  • Improves the handling of updates with linked documents whose styling has been lost or reset by preserving the InDesign-applied styling.
  • Fixes a problem where updates of unformatted Excel tables placed with drag’n'drop could fail.
  • Fixes a problem where updating a copy of a linked Excel/Word document could produce unexpected results.
  • Fixes a problem which was preventing stories placed from a loaded place gun into an existing frame from being managed.
  • Fixes a problem which was causing the Track Changes panel to display random time stamps after an update.
  • Addresses an issue where index entries could, in rare instances, be lost during updates.
  • Addresses an issue where updating a document containing cross-references could cause InDesign to shut down.
  • Fixes a problem where table cell attributes could be lost during an update.
  • Fixes a problem where updating with common changes in both the InDesign story and the linked document could cause InDesign to shut down.

New in WordsFlow 1.0.2 (Dec 22, 2012)

  • Improves the handling of deleted rows/columns when updating a linked Excel file.
  • Improves the preservation of row/column styling when updating a linked Excel file.
  • Improves the handling of content movement within tables.
  • Fixes the Undo menu entry for File > Place without WordsFlow.

New in WordsFlow 1.0.1 (Nov 20, 2012)

  • Changes:
  • Fix a bug where embedded graphics in a Word document would confuse WordsFlow to the point that a first update from the given document would work, but then subsequent updates could fail.
  • Improve the handling of large content changes.
  • Work around an InDesign problem that would lose index entries during updates.

New in WordsFlow 1.0 (Nov 2, 2012)

  • Changed the way that WordsFlow works, by making text and spreadsheet placement linking controllable by the InDesign global preference Create Links When Placing Text and Spreadsheet Files. We turn this preference on by default when we first run, and then you can decide whether you’d like it on or off by default after that.
  • If it’s on, you can use File > Place without WordsFlow… to place files without linking, and if it’s off, that menu item changes to Place with WordsFlow… so you can opt-in to linking.

New in WordsFlow 0.4.0 (Oct 25, 2012)

  • Changes:
  • Fixed collision problem with DocsFlow under Windows.
  • Fixed multiple problems with footnotes.
  • Fixed an issue where spurious spaces were sometimes added to the text, especially inside footnotes.
  • Fixed a bug where merging did not work correctly when change tracking was used in Word.
  • Fixed a bug where empty table cells could lose their text style during a merge.

New in WordsFlow 0.3.0 (Oct 16, 2012)

  • Update the expiration date of the trial version to November 5.
  • Properly handle nested stories coming from Word.

New in WordsFlow 1.0 Preview 2 (Sep 29, 2012)

  • This release adds InDesign CS5 and CS5.5 support for the first time. It also bundles both Mac OS and Windows plugins in the single (.zxp) download for each InDesign version, for simplicity’s sake and in preparation for selling through Adobe Exchange. The plugins for CS5 and CS5.5 are also bundled into a single download for ease of installation.
  • This release fixes the collision with DocsFlow that was causing InDesign crashes, at least under Mac OS.
