What's new in ViewNX 2 2.10.3

  • Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions:
  • Support for the D5500, COOLPIX S3700, S2900, L32, and L31 has been added.
  • Additional modifications to the Macintosh version:
  • Support for OS X version 10.10.1 has neen added.
  • OS X version 10.7.5 is no longer supported.
  • Support for the S6900 has been added.
  • When image files are moved, copied, or deleted in ViewNX 2, sidecar files associated with the image files are now also moved, copied, or deleted along with image files. However, when image files are moved or copied to destinations outside of ViewNX 2, such as the desktop, sidecar files associated with the images files will not be moved or copied accordingly.

New in ViewNX 2 2.10.2 (Oct 15, 2014)

  • Support for the S6900 has been added.
  • When image files are moved, copied, or deleted in ViewNX 2, sidecar files associated with the image files are now also moved, copied, or deleted along with image files. However, when image files are moved or copied to destinations outside of ViewNX 2, such as the desktop, sidecar files associated with the images files will not be moved or copied accordingly.

  • Support for the COOLPIX S6800, S6700, S3600 has been added.
  • The White Balance section in the Adjustments palette has been changed, or support added, as follows:
  • An Auto 1 option has been added.
  • Adjustment units available with the Tint option have been changed from 1 to 0.01 for more precise specification.
  • The adjustment range for the Fine Adjustment option has been expanded from 4132-7042 to 2500-7042 when Direct sunlight is selected.
  • Adjustment using the Fine Adjustment and Tint options is now possible when Recorded Value, Auto 1, Auto 2, or Underwater is selected.
  • ViewNX 2 adjusts white balance for colors similar to those captured with a camera's Auto 1 (Normal) (Auto white balance setting with cameras that do not offer an Auto 2 (Keep warm lighting colors) option
  • ) white balance setting. However, only RAW images captured with the following cameras are supported:
  • The D7000 and later DSLR cameras
  • Advanced cameras with interchangeable lenses
  • The COOLPIX A as well as the COOLPIX P7100 and later COOLPIX cameras that support recording in the NRW format
  • A Switch over to second slot after transfer option has been added to the Preferences panel in Nikon Transfer 2. When this option is checked, a confirmation dialog asking whether or not files recorded to the second memory card should be transferred will be displayed after files recorded to the first memory card are transferred. This function is available only when a camera with two memory card slots is connected to the computer using MTP/PTP (PTP).
  • The AF Noise Reduction... option in the File menu more effectively reduces the sound of lens drive with autofocusing

New in ViewNX 2 2.8.1 (Oct 9, 2013)

  • Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions
  • Support for the D610 and COOLPIX AW1 has been added.
  • Additional modifications to the Macintosh version:
  • Frame rate settings of 50fps and 60fps have been added for Size settings of 1280 x 720(16:9) and 1920 × 1080(16:9) in the Create movie dialog when File > Create Movie... is selected in Nikon Movie Editor.
  • However, the following two conditions must be met to select a Frame rate of 50fps or 60fps.
  • Movies added to the storyboard must have been recorded at a frame rate of 50p or 60p, and they must be originals (unedited by any movie editing software).
  • File type must be set to a type other than MOV (MotionJPEG/Linear PCM).

New in ViewNX 2 2.8.0 (Aug 20, 2013)

  • Modifications that apply to both the Windows and Macintosh versions:
  • Support for the COOLPIX L620 has been added.
  • GeoTag in the toolbar has been changed to Map. In addition, GPS data and GPS information have been renamed Location data.
  • The following support has been added for Motion Snapshots:
  • Slideshow function
  • When Short Movie Creator or Movie Editor is selected from the Open With... option in the File menu, users can now choose Movies (MOV) and JPEG images or Movies (MOV). However, to choose one of the above, Short Movie Creator or Movie Editor must be registered in Open With > Register... > Open with Application beforehand.
  • An Add/Edit Directional option has been added to the Map toolbar.
  • A Merge Altitude Log with Track Log... option has been added to the Log Matching item. A location log saved with a camera, mobile phone, or other commercially available satellite navigation system receiver capable of acquiring location data can now be merged with an altitude (barometer) and depth log* saved using a Nikon digital camera.
  • Altitude (barometer) and depth logs are recorded by Nikon digital cameras equipped with barometers or depth gauges.
  • Additional modifications to the Windows version:
  • Installation of QuickTime is no longer required.
  • Frame rate options of 50 fps and 60 fps are now available for movies created using the Create Movie... item in the Nikon Movie Editor File menu and output at a size of 1280 x 720 (16:9) and 1920 x 1080 (16:9). However, the following two requirements apply when 50 fps or 60 fps is selected for Frame rate: Only movies have been added to the storyboard (no still images) / An option other than MOV (MotionJPEG/Linear PCM) is selected for File type.
  • Additional modifications to the Macintosh version:
  • Image display with the slideshow function is now compatible with Retina Display.

New in ViewNX 2 2.7.6 (Jun 12, 2013)

  • Information for lenses used with the Auto Distortion function under File & Camera Information in the Metadata palette has been updated.
  • The destination for the link when the NIKON IMAGE SPACE website is opened from the NIKON IMAGE SPACE area in the Browser palette has been updated from my Picturetown to NIKON IMAGE SPACE.

New in ViewNX 2 2.7.5 (May 7, 2013)

  • When RAW images captured with a D600 running C firmware Ver. 1.01 at an Image area setting of DX (24×16) 1.5× and any Active D-Lighting setting other than Off were opened in Capture NX 2, a bright (whitish) diagonal line was visible. This issue has been resolved.

New in ViewNX 2 2.7.4 (Mar 12, 2013)

  • Support for the D7100 has been added.
  • An issue that prevented images saved in JPEG format with Capture NX 2 Ver. 2.3.0 or 2.3.1 from opening in ViewNX 2 has been resolved.
  • The correct lens name is now be displayed for still images captured with a digital-SLR camera and the AF-S NIKKOR 800mm f/5.6E FL ED VR. However, in the following cases, the lens name displayed will indicate that it is a G-type lens in Metadata on the Edit palette:
  • Images captured with a Nikon 1-series camera and the FT-1 mount adapter
  • Movies recorded using a digital-SLR camera

New in ViewNX 2 2.7.2 (Feb 19, 2013)

  • Support for the COOLPIX P520, COOLPIX S9500, COOLPIX S9400, COOLPIX S5200, COOLPIX S31, COOLPIX AW110, COOLPIX L820, and COOLPIX L27 has been added.
  • With the renewal of Nikon's image storage and sharing service, my Picturetown (launched as NIKON IMAGE SPACE on January 28, 2013), ViewNX 2 has been modified to provide collaboration with NIKON IMAGE SPACE.
  • The my Picturetown tab in the Browser palette has been changed to a NIKON IMAGE SPACE tab.
  • Upload to my Picturetown... and Share on my Picturetown... options under the Web Service item in the toolbar have been changed to Upload to NIKON IMAGE SPACE... and Share on NIKON IMAGE SPACE....
  • The my Picturetown option under the Web Service item in the File menu has been changed to NIKON IMAGE SPACE.

New in ViewNX 2 2.7.1 (Jan 15, 2013)

  • Support for the D5200, and Nikon 1 models J3 and S1 has been added.
  • The following issues with movies recorded using the Nikon 1 V2 with White Balance set to Underwater have been resolved:
  • Thumbnails for movies transferred with Nikon Transfer 2 using a card reader are not displayed in the thumbnail list area.
  • When Metadata is selected from the Edit palette, information other than that in File Info 1 is displayed.

New in ViewNX 2 2.6.0 (Nov 2, 2012)

  • Support for the Nikon 1 V2 has been added.
  • Focus points are now displayed in images captured with a Nikon 1 camera.

  • Support for the COOLPIX L610 has been added.
  • When images are transferred from a mass storage device with multiple media inserted with Disconnect automatically after transfer in the Nikon Transfer 2 Preferences panel checked, all recognized media are automatically disconnected after transfer.
  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.7 has been added.

New in ViewNX 2 2.3.2 (May 24, 2012)

  • When printing images with Print As: in the Printer Setup dialogue box set to Full Page and the Print Information box checked, images were printed with excessive margins, regardless of the options selected for printing in the Advanced Print Information Settings dialogue box. This issue has been resolved.

New in ViewNX 2 2.3.0 (Feb 15, 2012)

  • Support for the D800, and D800E have been added.
  • Save and Save As... items have been added to the File menu.
  • Original image files (original format, size, resolution, etc...) can now be sent as e-mail attachments from View NX 2 using the Email function.
  • A Margins function has been added to Index Print settings in the Print dialog.
  • Slideshows were sometimes not displayed properly when run with Auto-Hide Slide Controls selected for Toolbars in the slideshow Settings Dialog. This issue has been resolved. (64-bit version of ViewNX 2 only).
  • View NX 2, the Picture Control Utility, and Nikon Transfer 2 now function as native 64-bit applications inder Mac OS X versions 10.6 and 10.7.

New in ViewNX 2 2.2.5 (Dec 21, 2011)

  • Auto 2 is now available for selection from the list of White Balance settings in the Adjustments palette for RAW images captured with the COOLPIX P7100.
  • An issue that prevented display of Exposure mode in the Metadata palette for images captured underwater in Easy Auto mode with the COOLPIX AW100/AW100s has been resolved.
  • An Event box has been added under Description in the Metadata palette.
  • Lens information is now displayed in the Metadata palette for images captured with the Nikon 1 V1 or Nikon 1 J1 using the Mount Adapter FT1 and a CPU lens.
  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.7 has been added.

New in ViewNX 2 2.2.3 (Dec 8, 2011)

  • Resolution was not correctly displayed.
  • When these images were opened or manipulated in another application, the application sometimes quit unexpectedly.

New in ViewNX 2 2.1.1 (Feb 22, 2011)

  • An issue that prevented display of images scanned in NEF format with the COOLSCAN V has been resolved.
  • “– –“ was displayed for XMP/IPTC Information when multiple images with different XMP/IPTC information attached were selected, even when the Categories box in the Options dialog’s XMP/IPTC Preset panel was not checked. This issue has been resolved.

New in ViewNX 2 2.0.3 (Oct 28, 2010)

  • When the White Balance setting in the Adjustments palette was changed for NRW (RAW) photos taken at an ISO sensitivity setting of Hi 1 with the COOLPIX P7000, the entire photo took on a magenta cast. This issue has been resolved.

New in ViewNX 2 2.0.2 (Oct 28, 2010)

  • Support for the D7000 has been added.
  • Information regarding flash displayed in the Flash portion of the Metadata palette has been modified.
  • The flash compensation value display method has been modified for photos taken with the D3100 and D7000. (Total compensation value—camera + optional Speedlight—is now displayed.)
  • Zoom Position, Illumination Pattern, Nikon Diffusion Dome and FV Lock have been added to the Flash portion of the Metadata palette for photos taken with the D3100 and D7000.
  • D-Movie sizes of 640 × 424 and 320 × 216 have been added to export sizes for movies created using Nikon Movie Editor.
  • An issue that prevented display of information in the Metadata palette for photos taken in scene auto selector mode with the D3100 has been resolved.
  • When a movie recorded at 30 fps with the D3100 was added to the storyboard of a Nikon Movie Editor project beginning with a still image or movie, transition effect were added, and the project was then exported as a 24-fps movie, the movie was completely white. This issue has been resolved.
  • When two H.264 movies recorded at 24 fps were added to the Nikon Movie Editor storyboard, a transition effect was added, and the project was then previewed, only the second movie was visible in the transition portion of the project. This issue has been resolved. In addition, overall playback time was longer than the actual playback time, the slider could not be moved all the way to the end, and the specified background music did not play. These issues have also been resolved.

New in ViewNX 2 2.0.1 (Aug 18, 2010)

  • Support for Mac OS X version 10.6.4 has been added.
  • Audio sampling frequency with movie export from Nikon Movie Editor has been changed from 44 kHz to 48 kHz.  
  • Some Picture Control Utility specifications have been modified.
  • A Preferences button has been added.
  • In the following situations, D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 and custom Picture Controls created from any of these will not be displayed under Stored Picture Controls.
  • When a RAW image captured with a Nikon digital-SLR camera that does not support Picture Control is selected as the sample image
  • When Always use the latest Color Reproduction Process is selected in the Picture Control Utility Preferences dialog

  • When Always use the latest Color Reproduction Process is selected in the Picture Control Utility Preferences dialog and the following image types are opened, a message will be displayed and the images will be opened with the Standard Picture Control applied.
  • RAW images captured with the in-camera Picture Control function set to D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these
  • RAW images captured with a Nikon digital-SLR camera that does not support Picture Control that have been saved in NEF format using ViewNX 2 Ver. 2.0.0 or earlier, with the D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these applied from the Picture Control pull-down menu
  • RAW images captured with a Nikon digital-SLR camera that supports the Picture Control system saved in NEF format with D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these applied from the Picture Control pull-down menu  while Use the Color Reproduction Process applied in camera is selected in the Picture Control Utility preferences dialog
  • Note: However, for COOLPIX P6000 images saved in NRW format with D2XMODE1, D2XMODE2, D2XMODE3 or a custom Picture Control created from any of these selected, a message will be displayed and the images will be opened with the Standard Picture Control applied even when Use the Color Reproduction Process applied in camera is selected.
  • Note: ViewNX 2 must be exited and restarted in order for changes to the color reproduction process applied in the Picture Control Utility Preferences dialog to be reflected in ViewNX 2.
  • An issue that caused rough, uneven playback of H.264 movies with ViewNX 2 and Nikon Movie Editor has been resolved for smooth playback.
  • Audio sampling frequency with movie export from Nikon Movie Editor has been changed from 44 kHz to the same 48-kHz sampling frequency used by cameras.  
  • An issue that prevented red-eye correction in the image displayed in the Image View area when the Auto Red-Eye box in the Adjustments portion of the Edit palette was checked has been resolved
  • With Internet connection from some providers, correct acquisition of Address and Wikipedia data in the Search for Keywords from GPS Data dialog opened by clicking the Get from GPS Data… button in the Tags portion of the Edit palette was not possible.  This issue has been resolved.
