  • Bug Fixes:
  • Functions defined by a Drawing no longer fail to fit the greatest height of the Drawing when the Drawing is highly rotated.
  • Custom Tools that both match certain Givens to existing sketch objects and create points-on-objects on their Givens no longer occasionally fail to match properly.
  • Several example documents in the "Elementary and Middle School Mathematics" folder have undergone minor improvements.
  • Sketchpad is no longer incompatible with OS X Parental Controls on OS X Snow Leopard.
  • The application no longer becomes unresponsive after OS X Parental Controls displays a dialog box during registration.

  • The File menu now supports opening cloud-based documents from Sketchpad Sketch Exchange.
  • Sketchpad is now codesigned for Windows Authenticode and Macintosh Gatekeeper verification.

New in The Geometer's Sketchpad 5.04 (Jan 31, 2012)

  • New Functionality:
  • Sketchpad supports SMART Board color choices for ink (by means of pens or buttons) and also supports multi-touch on newer SMART Boards that incorporate the required hardware. Multi-touch allows multiple users to drag objects simultaneously.
  • Drag or flick the value of a boxed parameter. Press inside the edit box and drag or flick up or down to adjust. The parameter changes by the Keyboard Adjustment value, and continues to change while you keep the button down. For faster adjustments, drag farther up or down; for slower adjustments, drag closer to the edit box you are adjusting. You can use this method whether the parameter is selected or not, provided you have not already begun to edit the number in the edit box.
  • Sketchpad Explorer for the iPad is now available in the iPad App Store, here
  • Sketchpad Explorer allows you to explore any sketch created by Sketchpad itself. You can explore sketches on the web, sketches you receive by email, or sketches you create yourself (by dragging them into Sketchpad Explorer's documents list on the iTunes Apps page).
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Rounding errors no longer occur when measuring right angles in degrees.
  • (Macintosh) Improved support for "Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps" feature of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion.
  • (Macintosh) Preference colors no longer degrade over time as preference settings are changed.

  • New Functionality:
  • Pictures inserted as Hot Text in captions now appear by default as icons, rather than only with plaintext descriptions.
  • Sample Sketches and SLL activity browsing now use an improved Remote Document Browser.
  • The Tab key now advances from one active parameter edit box to the next; or from one selected object to the next similar object.
  • The Enter or Return key now “presses” a single selected Action Button.
  • Bug Fixes:
  • Coinciding objects are no longer auto-dashed unless they fully coincide with and extend beyond your newly constructed object.
  • Hot Text captions existence now depends not only on the existence of the Hot Text-linked objects, but also on the type of links.

  • The Remote Document Browser window now allows selection and opening of multiple items.
  • Pictures with partly-translucent internal areas are now easier to select with an Arrow Tool.
  • Copy and paste (or drag and drop) of pictures containing partial transparency now correctly preserves that transparency, rather than occasionally turning it black.
  • New Custom Transformed Pictures are never created with more samples than there are pixels in their pre-image picture.
  • Links in the Object Properties dialog now provide proper feedback on mouseover and mouse click.
  • Custom transformed images are now labeled like built-in transformed images.
  • Polygons newly created with the Polygon Tool no longer change color unexpectedly when points or parameters are randomly animating.
