TOWeb Changelog

What's new in TOWeb 12.05

Feb 12, 2024
  • In an e-Commerce site, the choice of the "Main page of your e-Shop" can now be specified in "Options > e-Commerce > About your store" in order to allow your customers to return to the page of your choice when they consult their shopping cart and use the "Back to the store" button
  • After a successful payment via PayPal and while everything was ok, the e-Commerce website could wrongly display an error to the buyer
  • Modifications of the TOWeb interface in order to make certain texts and buttons more accessible and more readable depending on the types of screens used
  • The site optimizer could analyze and wrongly count the pages of a blog as belonging to a menu, and falsely report that the site menu contains too many buttons and/or that certain titles were too long
  • Creating a customer account might not work when the "billing address different from shipping address" option was enabled and when the states/provinces were activated in the store's sales countries
  • Update of the new link for the Google-WebFonts-Helper located in the "add a new web font" window of the CSS editor

New in TOWeb 12.04 (Jan 29, 2024)

  • The generated QR Codes no longer use the Google Chart API service because this web service, declared as deprecated by Google, is increasingly dysfunctional and will most certainly be stopped by Google soon. In order to anticipate this problem, the QR Codes of your sites are now generated directly by TOWeb V12 and this more quickly than before, without ever malfunctioning or blocking access to the "Publish" step (if fort instance you wish to use TOWeb without internet connection) and they are also generated in better resolution format
  • In the form allowing the creation of a customer account, the list of states/departments could sometimes be empty (such as for instance for the provinces of Italy or the states of the USA when used) and prevent the creation of customer accounts of the countries concerned on e-Commerce websites
  • Changing the Zoom value in Maps objects could no longer work
  • When saving several sites at once, the label above the progress gauge was containing twice the same name of the backup instead of displaying the name of the site (in quotes) and the name of its backup file (in parentheses)
  • The contents of the shopping cart displayed when hovering over the cart button could appear partially hidden in certain themes and situations
  • Some texts were systematically displayed in English and not in the chosen language of the user interface
  • Fix of some predefined messages for Italian sites
  • Fix of the TOWeb logo background color in the Mac version of TOWeb
  • Minor adjustments for better readability of certain labels in the user interface

New in TOWeb 12.03 (Dec 19, 2023)

  • The site optimizer has been improved when checking a site's menu with a more judicious and greater tolerance for the maximum length of submenus
  • Update of the Lottie object that can be added in a paragraph to support the latest version of this animation player
  • The on/off button in a form was not hiding certain fields and/or their labels. The fields concerned were: Popup list, File, Color and Range
  • Issues to open Portable TOWeb
  • The Options step of TOWeb 12 may no longer be accessible in e-Commerce sites containing invalid taxes. A check has been added to avoid incorrect entries, now indicated in red for the problematic taxes concerned
  • Readability fixes to the colors and positions of certain texts in the TOWeb 12 user interface and in particular when displaying the results and explanations of a PHP support test
  • The cursor, indicating the position in a text when entering/modifying it, was no longer visible for all the site's predefined text fields located in the "Options > Languages > Translate TOWeb's predefined texts" screen.

New in TOWeb 12.02 (Dec 3, 2023)

  • Possibility of no longer having submenu indicators appear in the menu of your site
  • Not upgrading your existing PayPal payment and/or customizing the color of the PayPal button and/or deactivating PayPal Checkout V2 to reuse the old deprecated version of PayPal Standard could cause this online payment method to malfunction
  • Exporting a paragraph is now possible from all paid editions of TOWeb 12 and no just reserved for the Studio edition
  • Fix a crashes during the import of some sites which use the navigation option "back to the top of the page"
  • On certain screen types, the modify/duplicate/delete buttons could not be accessible and the content misaligned in the subproducts' management window of a catalog product
  • A “Change picture” context menu displayed in an Album could appear as available when it was not
  • From the site menu editing window, it is now possible to no longer display the triangular submenu indicators, both in the main menu and/or in the drop-down submenus. No longer displaying these indicators can allow you to avoid cluttering the visual appearance of your menu (especially if you have several submenus) and/or to have submenus using a simpler style.

New in TOWeb 10.0 (Nov 29, 2021)

  • Customer accounts:
  • When shopping from your e-commerce site, your customers can now create or connect to their customer account. The creation of an account is not mandatory, they can continue to shop as a guest. Registered customers will have a history and a follow-up of all their orders, and will be able to cancel them or to notify you upon their good delivery. You'll be able to create individual user coupons for registered users from the Back-Office of your site, and follow the total amount of purchased by your customers. The size of the button in your theme can be adjusted in the "size" field located in the "Font" tab and its margins in its "Box" tab to better adapt to your theme.
  • Images by sub-products:
  • It is now possible to display a subset of images specific to the sub-product selected by the visitor and this can be done in two different and complementary ways:
  • For the values of a sub-product category. For example if you sell t-shirts for which the visitor can choose Size, Type and Color (three categories likely to generate many possible combinations), you can ask to display a subset of images according to the Color selected by the visitor, as illustrated on this page.
  • For a specific combination of sub-product category. For example if you are selling a highly customizable product, you will be able to indicate for each possible combination which image(s) the visitor will see, as illustrated on this page.
  • To use this new function, you must add all the images that can be displayed in the first paragraph of the product sheet and choose the "Thumbnails" mode, then in the configuration of the sub-products indicate for a category value (a color, a size ...) or a combination of categories the list of images to display. For example if you add 10 images to a product which has customizable sizes and colors, you can indicate that for the color "Blue" you want the visitor to see the images "1, 2, 3", that for the color "Red" it will be the images "4, 5, 6" or that for a combination "Red / XL" it will be the images "7, 8".
  • New product pages:
  • The information of a product (price, size, type, color, ...) are now displayed aside its pictures in a layout perfectly displayed on smartphones:
  • a modern presentation with bigger pictures
  • sizes/types/ colors are now clickable buttons and no longer inconvenient drop-down lists
  • the choice of a product color can be done by clicking directly on its colored patches. To do this, simply select the desired color in the sub-product configuration window.
  • the quantity field can now be easily modified by clicking on the large "+" and "-" buttons
  • when the blog i-Service is activated on a catalog with star rating enabled, the customer rating for a product appears under its title.
  • the discount badges are now in SVG vector format for a perfect display
  • product and sub-product reference codes can now be up to 30 characters long (instead of 13 previously)
  • Easier shipping and payment mode selection:
  • In the checkout page, the icons of the shipping & payment modes are now in SVG format for a perfect display on all devices, and the selection of the shipping & payment mode is now done by clicking on large buttons for a better user experience on smartphones. Also, shipping modes are now sorted by prices (from the cheapest to the most expensive) to limit cart abandonment.
  • Re-designed checkout process:
  • Many changes have been made to the purchasing steps of a site in version 10, all in the sense of limiting cart abandonment:
  • A progress bar with big step numbers allows the customer to clearly see at what stage he is exactly in the process (especially on a smartphone). This has been shown to limit cart abandonment.
  • The shopping cart now displays less unnecessary data such as the unit price, but instead more useful information such as some thumbnails of the products ordered. A reassuring point for the customer when validating the content of its cart.
  • The quantities of the products present in the shopping cart can be changed much more easily (especially on smartphones) by clicking on large buttons.
  • Single-product shopping cart mode:
  • This new optional mode of the shopping cart allow only immediate purchases of one product at a time. This mode can be used for shops which sell services or products which by their nature are purchased individually and therefore do not require any cart management (unique product, services, etc). When this mode is activated in the shopping cart configuration options, your online store evolves as follows:
  • The shopping cart icon no longer appears in the site theme
  • The "Add to cart" and "View my cart" buttons on the product pages are replaced by a "Buy" button
  • When a "Buy" button is clicked, the visitor is redirected to the checkout process
  • The BikeProd template is an example of a site using the single-product mode
  • Stripe payment:
  • The Stripe online payment system is now supported. In addition to accepting major bank cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) Stripe also allows you to accept payment by SEPA bank transfer as well as other types of payments (iDEAL, Afterpay and Clearpay, Alipay, Becs Direct Debit, Boleto, EPS, Giropay, Klarna, OXXO, P24 and Sofort). This increasingly popular payment system is supported by many countries and in many currencies. For Stripe to work, a PHP version 5.6 or higher as well as the "curl" library must be installed on your server (which is generally the case) and your site must be secured by HTTPS with a TLS version 1.2 or higher. In case of doubt or problems, the TOWeb V10 PHP support test will tell you if your configuration meets these criteria. For more information, follow all our advice and recommendations on how to secure your site.
  • PHP 8 support:
  • Released at the end of 2020, version 8 of PHP begins to be installed and used more and more on web servers, especially because it's almost 20% faster than the previous version 7.4.
  • If your host offers or requires you to upgrade to version 8 of PHP to improve the performance of your site, you can do so at any time and complete peace of mind with TOWeb 10.
  • Blog and star rating improvements:
  • The star rating are now displayed with visitor comments. The stars are displayed as SVG picture for a perfect presentation on smartphones and their color can be customized. In a catalog product page, the note is displayed under the product title with a link to directly access the product reviews. Finally, the form for adding comments is now displayed next to the comments and no longer below (except on smartphones).
  • SVG images support:
  • It is now possible to insert SVG images into your pages. This vector image format is perfectly displayed on all screen size and is much lighter than traditional image formats. This is the ideal image format to use for icons or artwork. Most of the images provided with TOWeb (share buttons, language flags, discount badges ...) are now in this format. SVG illustrations can be found easily on the Internet, or on sites like https://undraw.co/illustrations.
  • Cards slider:
  • The "Card" object in a paragraph can now scroll all its elements horizontally. This can be useful when presenting your list of partners or sponsors, to highlight the list of your new products, to show a selection of user reviews, testimonials or photos (example in the VillaBella template).
  • Theme slider images links:
  • A link can now be set on image of the carousel to open a page of your choice. This new option allows visitors to navigate by just clicking on a carousel picture and simplify the memorization of your topics (pages, catalogs, albums, etc) because they also use this image on their pages.
  • Appearance effects on shifted paragraphs:
  • It is now possible to apply an appearance effect only to the content of a paragraph when positioned aside its background image. This new option is accessible from the "Position" property of a paragraph (option visible only when the paragraph has a background image). The possibility of applying an appearance effect to the entire paragraph also remains possible from its "Display" property. The new VillaBella template for example uses this effect on its home page
  • Full screen and Responsive search form:
  • In order to save space in the theme/design of certain sites (including on mobile devices) the search field of your site can now appear in full screen after clicking on its search button. To activate this, go to CSS editor of the "Theme", select the "Search box" element and activate its "Search button" option as well as its "Display the search field after clicking" option.
  • Background image only on the home page:
  • A new Theme option allows to apply a background image only to the content of your home page.

  • Improved scroll down button:
  • In topics starting with a full page height paragraph, the "scroll down" button can now be animated (several times or endlessly) with a bounce or flutter effect (zoom in/out) in order to attract the attention of the visitor to continue his/her visit like for example in the new VillaBella template in which we also see that it is now centered at the bottom of the paragraph content and no longer centered in the middle of the page. This scroll down button as well as the scroll up bottom (returning towards the "top of page") also have now several possible customizations of their styles to better adapt to your theme or taste.
  • Smooth links navigation:
  • A new option "vertical scrolling" can be used on a link when pointing to another paragraph of the same page, thus allowing to have a progressive scrolling animation until the display of the target paragraph. This option can be used in particular when you use paragraphs combined with the "full height" option to allow smooth navigation from screen to screen when going down or up the page, such as for example in a "landing page" (ie. a long home page such as in the HomeCare template) or a "Powerpoint-style" web page composed of different screens (ie. tutorials, lessons, presentations, ...).
  • Improved accessibility and SEO:
  • The pages of your sites are now optimized to display an accessibility score of 100% and improve the user experience of your visitors. In addition, a new option also allows you to add the product pages of all your catalogs in your sitemap file to improve their visibility and their referencing to search engines like Google and Bing.
  • Symbols inside your texts and buttons:
  • More than 300 new symbols are now available in addition to all the existing icons you can add to any paragraphs of your web page.
  • This allows you to quickly insert characters such as ®, ™, §, № into your texts or buttons/links as well as mathematical symbols, Greek letters, currency symbols, playing cards and chess pieces, numbered bubbles (❶❷ ... ➀➁) and many other type of characters.
  • "Mobile first" site generation:
  • Most of the new features of this version 10 are intended to improve the user experience on smartphones, and the HTML and CSS code generated has been optimized in this sense.

  • Order tracking
  • Tracking status of your orders:
  • It is now possible to monitor and modify the status of your orders from your Backoffice but also inform your customers by email when the status of their orders changes. For example, you can send a tracking number when shipping, or mark a Click & Collect order as "Ready for Pickup" to let the customer know they can pick it up at your store.
  • A new Backoffice:
  • All the management screens of the various i-Services have been grouped together in a new and unique centralized Backoffice from which you can now directly consult your sales statistics, monitor and modify the status of your orders, manage your online stock, your download files and also carry out the maintenance of your site.
  • Cookie consent
  • Personalization of cookie consent
  • It is now possible to offer a personalized cookie consent policy on your site to be in compliance with GDPR. By activating this, your visitors will be able to accept or refuse certain cookies used on your site in order to preserve their privacy.
  • Such a configuration for your site can be done from the new "Options > Cookies & Privacy" screen.
  • Save your web pages in PDF format:
  • Whether it is a single page of your site or an article (composed of several pages), you can now export your topics (including unpublished ones) to a file in PDF format directly from the "Save as PDF" button located at the bottom of their content and also decide for each paragraph whether or not they should be included in your PDF file.
  • Note: As our site is itself created with TOWeb, all the pages of its online documentation will therefore very soon be offered in a downloadable PDF file so that you can consult it on an e-reader or print it.
  • Lottie Animations:
  • You can now add Lottie animation files very easily in paragraphs of your web pages to bring dynamism to your site. Lottie files are animated images in SVG format that adapt to any screen size.
  • A different photo for each web page:
  • TOWeb 9 themes now allow you to display a different image at the start of each page on your site. By using such introductory images, you will allow your visitors to better differentiate your pages at first glance and facilitate their navigation on your site.
  • All you have to do is add all your photos in the "Slider" of your "Theme", and then select each photo to indicate which page it corresponds to.
  • Photo wall for your albums:
  • The new "Portfolio Grid" option for the index page of a photo album allows a display like a "wall" by presenting the photos nested one in the other and thus minimize the wasted spaces. It is possible to choose a display on 2 or 4 columns, adjust the spacing and choose a maximum width.
  • Custom buttons in your theme:
  • TOWeb offers predefined buttons with different styles for leading social networks, but if the social networks you use are not listed or if you just want to add more buttons pointing to your secondary sites or those of your partners, you can now do that by adding more buttons from the "Theme" screen.
  • Direct download of an image:
  • It becomes possible to set a "Download" click action on an image displayed in reduced size on your page so that it can be directly downloadable in large format by a simple click of the visitor.
  • Country flags in your multilingual website:
  • In your multilingual sites, the language button and its drop-down menu can now display country flags so that your visitors can easily locate and select the language they want.
  • Several options, such as the shape of the flag (rectangular, circular, etc.) and its size, will allow you a better integration into the theme of your multilingual site.
  • Accelerated loading of your web pages:
  • The "lazy loading" technique displays pages faster by downloading images only when they are visible. TOWeb 9 offers you to use this (or not) on your site with 2 possible operating modes. As for other resources used in your site (such as scripts, CSS files, and fonts), there are new options to preload them, reduce page rendering hangs in modern web browsers, and also ensure that your texts stay readable while web fonts are loading.
  • All these options improving the performance of your site are available in the new "Publish > Performances" screen.
  • Support for new image formats:
  • The images on your site can now be automatically converted by TOWeb
  • - in Progressive JPEG format allowing to obtain files smaller than standard JPEG ones and be displayed progressively as they are downloaded
  • - and in WebP format which offers an even higher compression rate without loss of quality and supported by modern web browsers.
  • These two optimizations can be used at the same time and are available in the new "Publish > Performances" screen.
  • Temporary deactivation of your site:
  • This new feature allows you to temporarily put your site "out of service" directly from your Backoffice, without needing TOWeb, by using your smartphone for example. This may be needed in the event on your website (maintenance, technical problem, inventory, etc.). The site will then be replaced by a configurable information message for your visitors, except yourself, by entering your IP address in order to be able to reactivate your site from your Backoffice.
  • Cash on Delivery:
  • This new payment method ("Cash on Delivery" or "CoD") is offered in TOWeb 9 among the other manual and deferred payment methods (cash, check, transfer, etc.). The payment can be made by yourself (if the delivery is also made to your point of sale by click & collect) or by a third party service (such as the COD delivery service).
  • Coupon applicable on your shipping costs:
  • A new option "Apply the reduction only to shipping costs" in the coupon management window makes it possible to offer rebates capped at the amount of shipping costs, which was not possible before. For example, a DELIV10 reduction coupon of $10 on shipping costs that only reduces its amount by $3 if the shipping costs do not exceed this amount. Likewise, if you wish to offer free shipping costs from a certain order amount, use this new option and give the coupon a very high amount value (like $9999), so the shipping costs will always be offered once the threshold is reached.
  • Add to cart notifications:
  • New options allow you to configure notifications of add to cart in order to improve the user experience of your customers: ephemeral notification, animation of added items that "fly" to the cart, display only on new items.
  • This can be configured from TOWeb in the "Options > e-Commerce > Shopping Cart > Options" step.
  • QR code generation:
  • From the Publish step of TOWeb 9, you can now print or export a QR code image containing the URL address of your website to use it on your commercial documents (for example your business cards) or if you create a site for a restaurant, to print your QR code and place it on the tables so that your customers can read your menu directly from their smartphone.
  • Demonstration: with your smartphone, scan the QR Code that you see next to this text to visit the QRMENU site template

  • Multilingual sites are automatically supported and this function can be activated or deactivated from the "Options > TOWeb" screen.
  • Securing backups of your sites:
  • It is now possible to protect the backups of your TOWeb sites with a password which will be requested during the restoration. Be careful, if you forget the password, your encrypted backup will no longer be used or restored by anyone (not even us!)
  • Buttons with predefined styles:
  • Possibility to select and apply to the Theme of your site different styles of predefined buttons with rectangular or rounded corners, color gradients, shaded or illuminated effects, effects of slight displacement when hovering, etc.
  • This new function is accessible from the Theme's CSS editor in "Site > General > Buttons > Default button > Buttons > Predefined button styles"
  • Objects placed next to paragraph text:
  • This new arrangement allows you to place an object (such as an image for example) vertically centered on the left or right side of your texts. Complementing the other layouts (in particular the one with an object embedded in the text) and the possibilities of aligning paragraphs between them, it will allow you to save time and vary the presentation of your pages.
