Nuendo 6.5 introduces a new automatic loudness processing feature that lets you optimize your audio for loudness quickly and efficiently by exporting audio files at user-defined loudness levels such as the industry-standard EBU values (e.g. -23 LUFS). True peak values for rendered audio are also user-definable. Because all settings have been conveniently integrated into the Export Settings dialog box, they are also available for more complex rendering tasks, such as cycle markers or batch export functions. Video overlay and take list improvements:
Review and edit speaker texts (video overlay) in stop mode, ideal for working with scripts which need modification during the recording session or even when the speaker’s already preparing for the next scene. Other important additions are the improved re-naming functions in the ADR marker window, making it easy to edit attributes of different markers at the same time (such as character name). It’s also possible to record several takes successively in one batch by freely selecting the appropriate scenes in the marker window, including a constant update of the dialog video overlay.

Automated naming scheme and recording:

The Free mode enables you to start recordings at any point in the timeline, independently from the given marker/take structure of the ADR marker list. This means that you can just start the recording and let the speaker perform multiple scenes in one go, if desired. You can even set the start point of recordings within a longer scene (for example, second half of the scene) without the need to start the scene and wait for the playback to reach the desired position, speeding up the whole ADR process. Bass Manager: Perfect bass frequency management:
The Bass Management plug-in brings additional tools to Nuendo 6.5 for routing and filtering low-frequency signals. Among the flexible new options are the ability to send a user-definable frequency range from the main mix directly to a subwoofer; this offers a lightning-fast way of separating bass frequencies from a main mix, for example, if the mix has been completed without a dedicated LFE channel.
Another new option is the ability to send a portion of the LFE channel to the main center or left/right speakers using the built-in crossover frequency controls. The final stage of dedicated filtering for the frequencies allocated to a subwoofer is the dedicated subwoofer section. Before/after metering offers a convenient visual representation of the levels routed to and from the new plug-in.

MixConsole improvements Visibility improvements:
Better overall visibility of several icons and buttons as well as improved text readability of several parameters and values. The MixConsole focus indicator (white rectange) has been softened for being easier on the eyes.
Exclusive mode for channel strip modules:
Individual channel strip modules can now be shown in exclusive mode to improve overview on small monitors. Exclusive Mode is accessed with the menu button beside the Racks button in the MixConosle toolbar then select "Show One Channel Strip Type".
New loudness meter options:
Loudness meter settings can now be stored/recalled as presets. There are new options to set the true peak value lower than -6 dB and to freely define the reference level (to allow for non-EBU specification).
Chord Track improvements:
PitchCorrect Chord Track integration:
The PitchCorrect plug-in can be now set up to use the Chord and Scale information in realtime from the Chord track in a project. To do so, load PitchCorrect on the desired audio track and set the Scale Source to “Chord Track – Chords”, then create a MIDI track and set its output to PitchCorrect in order to pass on the Chord/Scale events.
Improved Make Chords function:
The Make Chords function (Project > Make Chords) now offers two new options: If “Detect Arpeggios” is enabled, there is a great improvement in how arpeggiated notes are interpretedas Chords. Additionally, you can enable the “Interpret Sustain Pedal” option which takes care of finding Chords by notes played within an opened Sustain Pedal phase.
Text Input for Chords:
It is now possible to create chord events by entering text when using the Chord Editor. Using the tab key you can create a row of chords events in quick succession, which is ideal if you input chords from a lead sheet.
Chord Track preference "Hide muted Notes in Editors":
This new preference controls if events should be hidden from the MIDI Editor displays instead of just showing them as muted notes on MIDI/Instrument tracks that follow the Chord track. In case they can not be properly mapped according to the used "Follow Chord Track" mode. You can find this preference in the section "Editing > Chords".
MIDI improvements:
New MIDI Reverse function Mirror:
This function visually mirrors MIDI events in a Part and can be used as an alternative way of reversing a MIDI phrase in case the Reverse function does not create the desired result.
Adding a new MIDI track with increased channel:
When adding a new MIDI track via the Add track window, the newly created track will use the MIDI port from a selected MIDI channel and increases the channel number automatically.
Import Karaoke Lyrics as Text:
This new MIDI File Import preference controls whether karaoke text (lyrics) are imported from a MIDI file as SMF- Karaoke (SMF-Event #5) or converted to "Text"-Events. SMF-Karaoke events can be viewed in the List-, but not in the Score Editor. "Text"-Events can be edited in List- and the Score Editor. "Lyrics" (SMF 5, "Karaoke") will be displayed in italic, while "Text" (SMF 1) will be displayed in bold. "Text", that is imported from a MIDI file and has been SMF-Karaoke before, will be exported as SMF-Karaoke when exporting that project to a MIDI file again.
Audio improvements:
ASIO Driver Setup wizard:
This new dialog provides information to help select the relevant drivers of the audio hardware connected without the need to open the Device Setup window. The dialog pops-up on first program launch or after a new ASIO driver hardware has been installed or connected to the computer.
VST Connection Helper:
If no input- and output busses as well as "Studio" monitors have been setup in the VST Connections, an orange warning showing "Not Connected" will be displayed in the Status Line of the project window. When clicking at this notification, the VST Connections window opens to define the audio hardware ports for the audio input- and output busses. This helps to avoid the situation "Cubase is playing back, but I can't hear anything".
Mute VariAudio segments:
In Pitch & Warp mode, each VariAudio segment includes a mute (X) symbol now. With this symbol, you can mute individual note segments. The mute state can also be applied for multiple selected notes via the mute key command [Alt+M].
ADR improvements:
The Record and ADR modes are now specially protected against unintended interruption such as jog wheel operation and can be be operated without keeping the marker window open.
The video overlay for the dialogue marker attribute has been extended to display more characters (text) and the Take number attribute can be used to locate its relevant marker.

Handling of track pictures:
The track pictures browser now opens by double clicking the track pictures field.
Paste Relative to Cursor:
This new command pastes multiple objects while keeping their relative position to the project cursor. You can find it in the menu ""Edit > Function > ""Paste Relative to Cursor"". The Key-Command is [SHIFT+V] is assigned by default.
Improved vertical Zooming:
When zooming vertically in the Project window the zoom behaviour now respects your track selection, trying to keep the tracks as stable as possible in the view. If events are selected, vertical zooming will focus around the event selection instead. Vertical zooming in the Key / Drum Editor works in a similar way, either trying to keep all the MIDI events centered in the view or with focus on selected events first.
Improved Track/Channel Search:
The Track/Channel Search function has been improved for use with folder tracks and is now also available as a key command.
Faster Project load times:

Integrated toolset for ADR work and new video engine:
Nuendo 5 comes with a wealth of features made for film and TV editors, mixers and video game sound designers. An important part of the day-to-day work in audio post-production is the recording of audio content that needs to be synchronized to the picture.
Spot and organize:
Nuendo 5 allows the engineer to comprehensively spot and organize recording takes, such as for multiple roles by using a flexible marker track system. All marker tracks can be sorted and filtered in the marker window, which helps the user to keep the overview on the project. Nuendo 5 also reads CMX 3600 EDL lists provided by the video editor as well as exported and imported CSV formatted spotting and ADR lists.
New video engine:
The new native video engine of Nuendo 5 is based on QuickTime. Not only does to provide better performance but also the ability to play out videos in real-time via FireWire, now also on Windows. The new video settings panel complements this top feature.
Clip Packages:
Clip Packages allow the user to organize clusters of audio clips as one clip package file. After choosing an individual selection of audio files within the project in any constellation it can be saved as a handy package for later use. Clip Packages can be inserted to any other point in the project, archived in the MediaBay and can also be ported to another workstation, if needed.
Smooth scrubbing:
Sound editors are always looking for the best possibility to facilitate precise cutting tasks. With the new Nuendo 5 scrub wheel, precise editing is at the editor’s fingertips and interference noises belong to the past.
New MediaBay:
Nuendo’s powerful file management tool, MediaBay, boasts a graphically reworked user interface to facilitate usability. The enhanced Previewer lets you pre-listen on events and enables the sound designer and editor to select a portion of an event which can then simply be dragged into the project.
MediaBay can also be used to index and access tagged sound libraries on external hard drives. A sound editor can capture a catalog database via indexing the library, containing all tags and metadata. The index will reside on the portable hard disk. As soon as the portable hard disk is connected to another Nuendo workstation, the catalog (Volume Database) is instantly accessible.  
Enhanced compatibility with Pro Tools audio files:
With Nuendo 5 it’s easy to be industry compatible. For example, dual-mono tracks from Pro Tools can easily be converted to stereo interleaved files for an effective working in Nuendo 5. Edits and fades within the audio material will be retained. An option to split interleaved tracks and files to obtain multi-mono tracks is also provided.
EuCon adapter:
Nuendo’s deep and unique integration with Euphonix consoles is well-known the world over. The fifth version of Nuendo sees enhancements on the EuCon adapter which allows Euphonix clients to enjoy access to the new Nuendo 5 functions, directly from the surface of their consoles.
