  • Transfer a song from your headphones to a Sonos speaker.
  • Share your Sonos system with friends who have the Spotify app and are on your WiFi network.
  • SONOS ACCOUNTS:
  • If you plan to control your Sonos with the Spotify app, you’ll need to set up a Sonos Account. A Sonos account lets your Sonos and Spotify apps work together securely and reliably. You'll use it to manage and expand your Sonos system, both in the app and on www.sonos.com.
  • TRUEPLAY TUNING FOR HOME THEATER:
  • You can now use the Trueplay feature on your iPhone or iPad’s Sonos app to fine-tune any Sonos home theater setup. Just go to Room Settings, select the room with your TV and PLAYBAR, then tap Trueplay Tuning.
  • Trueplay bounces sound off various surfaces in the room, analyzing the distance from each wall, the location of your PLAYBAR, SUB and any paired rear speakers, and the spot you love to watch from. Then it precisely adjusts the timing, EQ and loudness for each woofer and tweeter to make sure the sound arrives from every direction at the right instant and volume. Which makes everything you watch feel more immersive, more intense and more real.
  • Use this new Trueplay tuning update to:
  • Custom tune your PLAYBAR for better sound based on your favorite viewing spot.
  • Balance and fine-tune any combination of Sonos speakers in your home theater setup–from PLAYBAR, with or without SUB, to full 5.1 surround sound with Sonos rear channels.
  • Set your Sonos home theater system up however you want–and know it can be tuned to sound as good as possible in any given room.
  • EVEN BETTER SOUND FROM PLAYBAR:
  • We’ve fine-tuned the center channel and adjusted the EQ to make sure music sounds even richer, and movie dialogue cuts through crisp and clear. You’ll feel each note and catch every whisper and mumble, whether your PLAYBAR is mounted above, below or resting in front of your TV.

New in Sonos Desktop Controller 6.4 (Sep 8, 2016)

  • Tap to Play - Tap a song on your phone or tablet, it starts instantly. No need to select Play Now or Play Next. Controlling your Sonos from a computer? Double click to play.
  • Instant, Non-stop Next - Start any song from an album, playlist or your Queue. When it ends, Sonos immediately continues with whatever’s next in the track list.
  • The New Queue Build - Adding songs to your Queue has changed slightly. Instead of directly tapping a song title to open up your listening options, touch the three dots (***) that now appear to the right of it. Then you can Play Now, Play Next, Add to End of Queue … you decide.
  • Extra Queue Protection - Any time you decide to play something new after editing your Queue, the app will prompt you so you can either Cancel and save the Queue as is, or go ahead and Play Anyway.
  • Quicker Access to Play All and Shuffle - These controls now appear at the top of the Album and Playlist screens. Tap Play All to enjoy the whole track list, start to finish. Tired of the same old, same old? Hit Shuffle All for a random mix up.
  • Room Grouping Simplified - Want to send that playlist you’re enjoying in the living room over to the kitchen? If you’ve got different songs playing in different rooms, the app will make sure you send the right song to the right room. That way your music never stops.
  • Triple Tap for instant replay. - Tap the Play/Pause button on your speaker three times to restart the previous song in your Queue. (If you have one of our new PLAY:5 speakers, just swipe left over the touch controls. Same result.) Please note: Triple Tap works with your Queue, but not when you’re listening to radio stations.

New in Sonos Desktop Controller 6.0 (Nov 11, 2015)

  • INTRODUCING TRUEPLAY:
  • Trueplay makes your Sonos speaker smarter, more aware and more responsive. It uses your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to measure how sound reflects off walls, furnishings and other surfaces in any given space. Then it adjusts the speaker, as much or as little as needed, to produce sound that’s true to the music and right for the room.
  • Trueplay tuning works with the PLAY:1, PLAY:3, PLAY:5 (gen 1) and the all new PLAY:5 (gen 2). Trueplay is compatible with single speakers or with two speakers configured as a stereo pair. Trueplay also supports these configurations with a SUB added.
  • Trueplay tuning works with iOS devices running iOS 7 or higher:
  • iPhone 4s or later
  • iPad Mini 1,2,3,4
  • iPad Air 1 and 2
  • iPad 2,3,4
  • iPod touch (5th generation or later)
  • Note: If your device has a case that covers the microphone, such as a LifeProofTM or OtterBox® case, it must be removed before performing Trueplay tuning.
  • While Trueplay tuning is only available for iOS devices, if a speaker in your household has been calibrated, all controllers, including the Sonos App for Android and the Sonos App for Mac or PC, can toggle the calibration on and off through the settings for that room.
  • THE ALL NEW PLAY:5:
  • The all-new PLAY:5® is the ultimate smart speaker for today’s streaming universe—powerfully smart, fine-tuning its sound to bring you all the energy and emotion the artist packed into the original recording.
  • Hardware and software is custom-designed by Sonos to produce pure, immersive sound that’s crystal clear at any volume.
  • It’s powered by 3 tweeters and 3 mid-woofers, each with a dedicated amplifier, perfectly tuned to match the speakers and acoustic architecture.
  • Works seamlessly with the complete range of Sonos products.
  • The new PLAY:5 supports Wireless Accessory Configuration (WAC) for simpler set-up over WiFi using iOS 7 and higher.
  • Note: Not all iOS devices support WAC.
  • The all-new PLAY:5 will be available on November 20 in the U.S. and on November 25 worldwide.
  • SUPPORT FOR HTTP LIVE STREAMING (HLS) FORMAT:
  • Sonos now supports HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) audio format. Unlike other formats, the HLS standard involves multiple configurations on a station by station basis. Therefore, this release will allow you to listen to many, but not all HLS stations. Streaming of on-demand HLS content is not yet supported.
  • REPEAT TRACK IMPROVEMENTS:
  • You can now choose to play a single track in the queue repeatedly, so as soon as the current track finishes playing, it begins again. Simply select repeat to activate the repeat control and then select repeat again to activate repeat single track mode. The repeat track button indicates that repeat single track mode is active.
  • PLAYBAR POWER CONSUMPTION IMPROVEMENTS:
  • Reduced power consumption for your PLAYBAR if not attached to a SUB or rear speakers.
  • IMPORTANT NEWS FOR OWNERS OF SONOS CONTROLLERS ON iOS DEVICES:
  • Sonos sets out to continuously evolve the listening experience. Some of the features in this release require iOS 7 and higher. Sonos version 6.0 still supports devices running iOS 6 for commonly-used features such as playing music, browsing your music library or music services, grouping rooms and adjusting volume or muting. However, if your device is running iOS 6 and you upgrade to Sonos version 6.0, the Settings menu will have limited options and devices running iOS 6 will not be able to:
  • Add or remove music services (including trial services)
  • Re-authorize a music service account
  • Manage music services or the music library
  • Set up a new Sonos system (you can connect to an existing Sonos system)
  • Add a player, SUB, BOOST, or BRIDGE
  • Tune a speaker with Trueplay
  • Access Room, BOOST, or BRIDGE settings
  • Access advanced settings (some options, such as About, Forget, Reset, and Submit Diagnostics, will be available from the Settings menu)

You can associate up to 32 music service accounts with your Sonos system, each with different music and preferences. For more information, go to http://faq.sonos.com/multiaccount.
  • If your Sonos system has multiple music service accounts associated with it, you can select your personal music service account to get your own custom music experience.
  • When you add a music service account to Sonos, you assign it a nickname so you always know which account you are using on your Sonos system. Entering special characters, such as emoji characters, in nicknames is not recommended as not all Sonos controllers support these characters.
  • To change the music service account nickname:
  • Using the Sonos Controller App for Mac or PC, select Service Settings from the Manage menu and choose a music service to edit.
  • Using a Sonos Controller App for iOS or Android, select My Services from the Settings menu and choose a music service to edit.
  • You cannot change the account nickname using the Sonos CONTROL. (The CONTROL does not have a default account - all of the music service accounts that are associated with your Sonos system appear on the Music menu.)

  • If a track on your device and in your local music library have the same name, the track appears twice in the search results.
  • OTHER IMPROVEMENTS:

At the end of the setup process, you can disconnect the Ethernet cable and move your Sonos player to a different location.
