Pixelmator Pro 3.5.8 brings improved support for vector PDFs — including those created using Apple apps like Safari, Keynote, or Pages — now letting you edit text elements as regular text layers. The update also adds the ability to create freely customizable strokes around text layers and introduces a new Bento Grid template collection.
Text Editing in PDFs:
You can now import and edit text elements in vector PDFs as regular text layers.
Replace, format, and style the imported text using your favorite Pixelmator Pro tools.
Thanks to the advanced recovery of embedded text data in PDFs, original text content, fonts, and text formatting are retained.
Even if a document contains fonts that are not installed on your Mac, you can still import them as editable text layers and replace missing fonts with other available ones.
Extended Support for Apple PDFs:
Enjoy editing text layers in PDFs created using Keynote, Safari, or Pages and unlock exciting new editing workflows.
PDFs created from web pages using SF Pro font will retain their appearance and original typeface if this Apple system font is installed.

Pixelmator Pro 3.3.9 introduces significant improvements to the Denoise tool, which now lets users adjust the amount of noise they want to remove from their images. The update also brings support for compressed Fujifilm camera RAWs, including RAW photos from the brand-new X-S20 model.
Denoise Improvements:
Enjoy an updated Denoise tool, bringing quality improvements for artifact-free noise removal.
Use the new Denoise Intensity slider to adjust the amount of noise in an image. Lower the intensity to preserve more details, or increase it to make the image smoother.
You can also adjust the intensity of noise reduction in an image by entering a specific value.
The Denoise action in AppleScript and Shortcuts now has the option for adjusting intensity.
RAW Support Improvements:
You can now open and edit compressed RAWs from Fujifilm cameras, including the highly-requested X-T4, X-T5 models, and more.
Compressed and uncompressed RAWs from the brand-new Fujifilm X-S20 model are now also supported on macOS 13.
Thanks to the extended RAW support, thumbnails of compressed Fujifilm RAWs will now be visible when browsing photos in the Pixelmator Pro photo browser.
View the lens model, aperture, and other camera metadata of the compressed Fujifilm RAWs in the Pixelmator Pro Info pane, or right in the Color Adjustments pane when adjusting colors.
Open and edit compressed Fujifilm RAWs in Photos using the Pixelmator Pro extension.
Compressed Fujifilm RAWs are now also fully supported in Photomator, letting you work seamlessly in Photomator and Pixelmator Pro.
Pixelmator Pro will now show an alert when attempting to open RAW photos from unsupported camera models.
Other Improvements:
The Crop tool has been improved with a much more precise Straighten slider that lets you straighten images in 0.01-degree increments.
Clicking the icons at each end of the Straighten slider will now rotate the image at a 0.1-degree angle, or 1-degree angle when Shift-clicking.
The Decontaminate Colors feature has been improved to better preserve details when decontaminating colors at object edges.

Tilt-Shift and Focus blur effects would not work correctly when resizing images in the Image Size menu. Fixed.
The Histogram would get stuck in the Color Adjustments pane when minimizing and maximizing the application window. Fixed.
Hiding layer group masks wouldn't update the image view on the canvas. Fixed.
Shift-Plus and Shift-Minus keyboard shortcuts for changing layer blend modes would not work. Fixed.

Remove Color:
Powered by a state-of-the-art Texture-Aware Algorithm, the Remove Color adjustment lets you remove solid colors or entire color ranges from images and videos with remarkable quality and ease.
Simply pick a color you want to remove using the color picker and watch it instantly disappear.
Adjust how much of the selected color is removed using Color Range, Luminance Range, and Intensity sliders.
When removing background color in videos, use the Remove Color adjustment together with the Replace Color adjustment to get ultra-high-quality results.
Texture-Aware Color Adjustments:
Enjoy texture-aware Shadows, Highlights, Exposure, and Brightness adjustments and two new adjustments — Clarity and Texture — in the renewed Basic color adjustments group.

Sidecar Files Support:
Thanks to the new sidecar feature, you can now open and edit images in their original file format, and then save them back to the same file format while preserving all nondestructive edits and layers.
Sidecar files are stored in iCloud or the Pictures folder on your Mac, separately from the original image.
You can also save any new document to JPEG, PNG, TIFF, WebP, and HEIC and preserve the edits.
Easily save images opened from Photos back to the Photos library with layers and edits by choosing File > Modify Original in Photos.
Continue editing the modified images in Photos using the Pixelmator Pro extension.
Find, manage, and delete sidecar files in the Manage Files menu.
Turn automatic document saving and macOS Versions on and off by selecting or deselecting Use Auto Save and Versions.

You can now add and edit layer styles of multiple selected layers. Original styles — fills, strokes, and shadows — applied to each individual layer are kept.
You can also add, copy, paste, and reset layer styles, color adjustments, and effects of multiple layers at a time.
When exporting an image multiple times during the same editing session, Pixelmator Pro will now remember the last used document color profile setting.
Advanced shapes exported to Motion file format will now be more accurate.
Added improvements to better handle text in SVG files.
RAW layers will now open with depth masks when inserted from Photos (using Insert > Photos) or when dragged to Pixelmator Pro from Finder.
Improved color accuracy of Adobe Photoshop adjustment layers.
You can now reset all Crop and Quick Export presets to default. The Reset All option will appear when pressing and holding Option while in the preset shortcut menu.
Images with certain effects would sometimes look different when exported. Fixed.
Copy and Paste as Layer and Cut and Paste as Layer features would not work with selections on RAW layers. Fixed.
WebP Quick Export presets would not be displayed correctly in the Quick Export menu. Fixed.
Pixelmator Pro would occasionally stop responding when saving changes. Fixed.
Trying to load a Photos library that's been deleted or removed with an external storage drive would cause Pixelmator Pro to quit unexpectedly. Fixed.

Pixelmator Pro 2.4.2 adds the ability to set the frame rate and duration of Motion projects, increment and decrement values in text fields using arrow keys, and includes a few other improvements and fixes.
Improvements:
You can now set the frame rate and duration when exporting Motion projects.
The Up Arrow and Down Arrow keys can now be used to increment and decrement values in text fields. Press and hold the Shift key to use bigger increments.
Use the new Option-Right Arrow and Option-Left Arrow keyboard shortcuts to adjust the character spacing of selected text.
Edit font sizes more precisely with decimal values.
It’s now possible to apply effects to layer masks again.
Added support for a few more Adobe Photoshop adjustment layer types. The following adjustment layers in PSD files will now be opened as color adjustments or effects layers in Pixelmator Pro: Brightness/Contrast, Levels, Curves, Exposure, Vibrance, Hue/Saturation, Color Balance, Black & White, Photo Filter, Channel Mixer, Color Lookup, Invert, Posterize, Threshold, and Gradient Map.
Improved SVG writing and reading for better compatibility with other apps.
Clipping masks will now be preserved when exporting SVG files.
When replacing images using the Replace Image feature, file sizes will now be better optimized in certain situations.
Fixes:
Sometimes, part of the Pixelmator Pro workspace would be hidden when exiting fullscreen. Fixed.
When creating an effects or color adjustments layer from an empty layer, its mask would not be preserved. Fixed.
Color Adjustments and Effects menu items and their keyboard shortcuts would be inactive if the Crop tool was turned on. Fixed.
Effects with adjustable opacity would sometimes show incorrect opacity values. Fixed.
The width of the fonts menu was incorrect with certain fonts. Fixed.
Pixelmator Pro would quit unexpectedly when importing Pixelmator Classic brushes. Fixed.
In certain situations, opening the Brushes browser would make Pixelmator Pro quit unexpectedly. Fixed.

Redesigned Layers Sidebar:
The Layers sidebar has been redesigned to make it much easier to work with layers.
Informative layer subtitles now show useful info about layers, depending on their type: sizes for image layers, text formatting for text layers, path info for shape layers, and more.
The design of the blending controls has been updated and they'll now appear at the top of the Layers sidebar by default.
Layers sidebar viewing options can now be customized, so you can change the size of thumbnails, the visibility of layer subtitles, and the position of the blending controls.
You can now quickly add an empty layer using the new Add Empty Layer button.
Layer masks will now appear as separate layers in the Layers sidebar.
Layer masks can now be unlinked from their parent layer – double-click the line connecting a layer mask to its layer to link or unlink it.
Color Adjustments and Effects Layers:
Color adjustments and effects layers let you apply color adjustments or effects to all the layers below them in a composition.

You can now easily apply selective edits by using colors adjustments and effects layers with masks.
Use the Shift-Command-A keyboard shortcut to add a colors adjustments layer and Shift-Command-F to add an effects layer.
Over 200 New Shapes:
Over 200 new artist-designed shapes have been added to Pixelmator Pro.
Several new shape collections have been added and others have been rearranged, so there are now 10 collections: Basic, Activities, Food, Objects, Arches, Science, Animals, Plants, Organic, and Symbols.
All shapes are pixel-perfect – this means their vector points perfectly align with pixel boundaries, ensuring any icons you create won't have any unwanted blurring.
M1 Ultra:
Thanks to support for the M1 Ultra chip, Pixelmator Pro flies when performing machine learning-based tasks on the latest Mac Studio devices.
Tasks like automatic background removal, super-resolution, and photo enhancement are up to 1.7 times faster on M1 Ultra compared to M1 Max.
Scrubby Zoom:
The Scrubby Zoom mode makes it easier to zoom images when using a graphics tablet or mouse.
When using the Zoom tool, you can simply drag your image horizontally – like scrubbing video controls – to zoom in and out.
When using other tools, first press the Space key, then the Option key to temporarily activate the Zoom tool.
If you'd like to, you can change the scrubby zoom scroll direction from horizontal to vertical using the following Terminal command: defaults write com.pixelmatorteam.pixelmator.x enableVerticalScrubbyZoom -bool true
Other Improvements:
You can now create masks by Command-dragging layers onto other layers.
You can also copy and paste masks between different Pixelmator Pro documents.

Improvements:
The Clone Stamp tool’s source preview has been improved and now updates immediately after zooming or panning the canvas.

Deep Images:
With support for P3 color and Wide Color displays, all 16-bit images on the new MacBook Pro, iMac with Retina 4K display, and iMac with Retina 5K display look more vibrant and true to life.
16-bit images also look better on standard displays, as dithering is applied to subtly smooth gradients and remove visible banding.
Dithering is also applied when reducing the color depth of an image from 16 bits to 8 bits.
Quick Selection improvements:
The Quick Selection Tool now has a live preview.
It’s also much faster, thanks to a faster algorithm.

While transforming a layer with a shadow, small, grey squares would sometimes appear on the canvas. Not anymore.
The Column Marquee Tool would sometimes make selections that were 1 pixel wider than they were supposed to be. Now they are pixel-perfect.
When refining a selection with the Clone Stamp Tool selected, parts of the red selection overlay that marks the non-selected area would sometimes disappear. We fixed this.
When a text layer was used as an overlay for a clipping mask, converting it into a pixel layer would cause the text to disappear. Fixed.
Sometimes, the coordinates of a shape layer could get lost and this would make it impossible to save or open the document. Fixed.
Improved stability when opening PSD files with specific Photoshop text features.
On OS X 10.9, the Add to iPhoto option was missing from the Share menu. It's back.
On OS X 10.10, when applying Blur effects to layers that don't fill the entire canvas, some pixels at the edges of the layer would be stretched across the empty areas. Fixed.
On Mac computers with a Retina Display, the effect preview, which is shown on your image while a Color Adjustment dialog is open, made the image look slightly blurred. Fixed.
On iMac computers with 4K Retina Displays, when painting with a brush-based tool, moving the brush outside the document window made the screen flicker. We fixed this.
In the Pixelmator Distort extension, clicking the image before choosing a tool would automatically select the Warp Tool. It now works as it should.

The “New Layer from FaceTime” feature now works perfectly on all Macs.
The Layers palette no longer dims after changing the image size.
After using crop and undo actions one after the other, the thumbnails of grouped layers used to show inaccurate previews of the enclosed images. Now they’re displayed beautifully.
Sometimes, after dragging an image from a Web browser when the app was hidden or closed, the palettes failed to open. No more surprises.
Now you can open 16-bit Photoshop images exported from Aperture.
Previously, opening Photoshop images containing outer glow adjustments could cause the app to stop responding. That won’t happen again.
Small images used to jump to full zoom when zooming out with the pinch gesture. We fixed that, too.
The scroll bar of the Gradients, Styles and Shapes palettes used to hide part of their thumbnails when the “Show Scroll Bars” feature was set to “Always” in System Preferences. Fixed.
The app used to stop responding when grouping shape layers into many subgroups. Fixed.
Sometimes, when connecting a MacBook Pro with discrete graphics and OS X Yosemite to an external display, weird graphical glitches would occur. We fixed that, too.
Once in a while, the alert “The file doesn’t exist” would pop up when trying to export a file in a different file format. It won’t happen again (fingers crossed).
Now you can Send Backward as many layers as you wish.
The thumbnails of newly created gradients wouldn’t show up properly in some localizations. Now, they are displayed just as they should be.
