Personal Ancestry Writer II 100 - Changelog

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 100:

    September 22nd, 2011

    · The appearance of the PAWriter application icon was improved.
    · The FrameMaker MML report features have been deleted. The Write MML menu item in the File menu and all its submenu items have been removed. FrameMaker for the Mac is an MacOS 9 application and has not been supported by Adobe Systems Incorporated for many years.
    · Most of the desktop publishing capabilities of FrameMaker now appear in Nisus Writer Pro2 (see the Nisus website), and in some cases the capabilites in Nisus Writer Pro exceed those in FrameMaker. RTF files generated by PAWriter using the Write RTF menu item in the File menu are opened in Nisus Writer Pro by default (as well as being readable by other Mac word processors such as Microsoft Word, Pages, TextEdit, Tex-Edit, AppleWorks and Quick Look).
    · A bug in version 99 dated 1 July 2011 which affected the wallet window was fixed by removing the Close Wallet button. A wallet is still closed by clicking on the red close button in the upper left corner of the wallet window, by choosing Close Wallet from the Pictures menu or by pressing command-W.
    · PAWriter was compiled using Real Studio 2011 Release 2 — technical change only.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 93:

    July 5th, 2010

    · The heading for images in an HTML report has been corrected to use curly quotation
    · marks. The menu item Check for Updates has been added to the Help menu. Make sure
    · your internet connection is active when choosing this item. A preference item has
    · been added to the Preference window to exclude dates of birth and baptism for living
    · people in HTML, RTF and MML reports. This is an option that may be exercised to
    · protect against identity theft.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 92:

    March 27th, 2010

    · The draft window has been replaced by launching Safari with a properly formatted draft as it would appear in an HTML report. The draft notes window has been replaced by launching Safari with a properly formatted draft of notes as they would appear in an HTML report. The timeline window has been replaced by launching Safari with a formatted timeline. The Reference Guide was updated to illustrate these new Safari windows.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 91:

    January 30th, 2010

    · The limitation on list boxes of a maximum of 30,000 entries at a time is now removed. All entries are now displayed. This applies to when the Find Person button is clicked (or command-F is pressed or Person menu > Find Person by Name is chosen); when the Find Tagged button is clicked (or option-command-F is pressed or Person menu > Find Tagged Person by Name is chosen); when Edit menu > Copy Name, Tag menu > Tag People whose Names Contain, or Tag Menu > Tag People with a Place Containing is chosen, as well as for the list of citations displayed when Citation menu > Edit Citations is chosen. You can still type the first few letters (or more) of an entry and press tab to jump to the first entry in the list that starts with those letters.
    · The Reference Guide was updated to remove references to the above list limitations, and to add an explanation of marriage intentions to the topic Basic Data Entry > Dates.
    · As stated in the Reference Guide: "To ensure HTML reports, HTML web sites and Show Scrapbook in the file menu work properly, make sure your picture file names use only alphanumeric characters [i.e., plain ASCII letters and digits], dashes (-), underscores (_), periods (.) and spaces. It's also OK to use plus signs (+) and dollar signs ($), but their usage is generally rare." (See BNF definitions of alpha, digit and safe characters in a URL in [url]http://www.ietf.org/rfc/rfc1738.txt[/url , page 19, to which is added a space character.) Now, if you add a picture file to a wallet whose name contains a character other than those specified above, or open such a picture file in a wallet, a warning will be displayed pointing out that character. Such a picture file may or may not be displayed when referenced in HTML.
    · Titles at the head of HTML reports that contain non-ASCII characters are now displayed correctly.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 90:

    November 23rd, 2009

    · An error in GEDCOM import introduced in version 88 was corrected. It caused all text to run together.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 88:

    November 17th, 2009

    · This is the first version of PAWriter that is a universal binary compilation, and its file name is changed to PAW2U. It reads and writes the same data files used by PAW2 and PAW2X. Much internal re-coding was necessarily accomplished in this move to the universal binary version. Universal binaries run on both PowerPC Macs and Intel Macs without Rosetta.
    · This universal binary version should run well on G3s, G4s, G5s and Intel Macs under MacOS 10.3.x (Panther), 10.4.x (Tiger), 10.5.x (Leopard), 10.6.x (Snow Leopard without Rosetta) and future versions of the MacOS. (I’ve alpha tested it on Intel iMacs running Leopard and on a G4 eMac running Panther.) I believe this version of PAWriter runs significantly faster than previous versions on any of the above-named platforms.
    · The About PAWriter Help and the PAWriter Reference Guide menu items were moved to a new Help menu.
    · The Reference Guide is now part of the PAW2U file ("bundled"). You can click on the Reference button in the main window or choose Help menu > PAWriter Reference Guide or press command-' in major windows to launch the Reference Guide in Safari. The Reference Guide now displays with two panes in the browser window: a table of contents in the left pane and the selected entry in the right pane. The contents of the guide has been reviewed and revised as necessary with all new images included.
    · The creator for HTML files was changed to "udog" in order to launch Safari. Of course, you can change the default brower in Safari preferences or in an HTML file's Get Info window.
    · Many subordinate windows such as alerts and various dialogs were made into "sheet" windows, which drop down within the containing window.
    · You can now control-click (right-click with most mice) anywhere in notes and the Edit menu will popup, with all of its relevant menu items available for selection.
    · Possible problems in notes and any linkage problems are now completely listed in new scrolling windows.
    · Notes in family group sheets for parents are not duplicated in multiple marriages.
    · "Faster open and save dialogs" and their preference item were removed.
    · A few obscure errors that had gone undetected prior to this version were corrected.
    · Since there have been numerous complaints about the previous default background color of turquoise, the default has been changed to the more neutral crayon color named Silver (a light gray). A suggested compatible highlight color option in the system preference Appearance panel is Graphite. But feel free to change the background color in PAWriter preferences and/or the highlight color in system preferences to whatever is pleasing to you.
    · An error was corrected on 7 November, and PAW2U reposted that Saturday. The problem occurred when a data file contained an LDS ordinance for sealing of spouses, and caused PAW2U to quit during loading of the file.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 84:

    February 8th, 2009

    · The animated cursor added in version 83 (visible when opening notes windows and draft windows) was updated to fix a problem where the animated cursor got stuck when opening an empty notes window.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 83:

    January 31st, 2009

    · Unmarried couples no longer cause an entry in the problem list for "People remarried before previous spouse died or was divorced.
    · Improved the fix for a rare note problem.
    · When the user exports a GEDCOM using ANSEL or UTF-8 (and that GEDCOM is not to be submitted for TempleReady), PAWriter will ask the user whether to "Exclude Events and Notes for Living People?" If the user clicks "Yes", then for any person whose Died popup is set to Living, PAWriter will not include in the GEDCOM birth, baptism and marriage dates and places nor any notes for that person.
    · Suppressed marriage number if only one marriage in all reports.
    · Added a preference check box to exclude a partner's other partner(s) and their children from all reports. For example, stepchildren and their parents' marriage will not be included when a report is written if this box is checked.
    · Displayed OS X draft windows in Arial font (the Geneva font doesn't display boldfaced text in OS X).
    · Animated the OS X watch cursor (visible when opening notes windows and draft windows).

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 82:

    August 29th, 2008

    · GEDCOM import has been improved, including the acceptance of some non-standard structures exported by other programs and a correction to the inclusion of SOURce tags in notes.
    · GEDCOM export has been precisely defined in the GEDCOM appendix to the Reference Guide.

What's new in Personal Ancestry Writer II 81:

    June 30th, 2008

    · Fixed an error that prohibited saving general notes.
    · The wording in the list of possible problems for children born less than nine months apart has been corrected.
    · The list of current postal codes for the Canadian provinces and the U.S. insular possessions and freely associated states has been updated, and the State popup menu has been reorganized.
