  • The maximum width of sidebar columns are increased greatly.

  • For Single-pane windows, to toggle between normal mode and Always-on-Top mode, click the Always-on-top icon on the top-right corner of the window.

  • New feature: Image Attachments. Now you can insert images directly to your outline by drag-and-drop. Or, select Edit > Insert > Image from main menu.
  • New file format: Rich Outline (*.richoutline). To support images, we introduce a new outline file format. Similar to an RTFD package, a Rich Outline document is a folder contains the main outline file and image files.
  • New export format: RTFD. Images can be exported to RTFD.

  • New Outline from Branch: Create new outlines from contents in your current outline. Right click (or control-click) to open the popup menu and click “New Outline from Branch”. You can also select this function from the main menu (Outline > New Outline from Branch).
  • Hanging Indents: Notes, second and subsequent lines in a paragraph are aligned with the text of the first line, after the numbering or list maker (1,1.a,-,+,..).

  • Now you can customize your Library’s folders with more than 500 beautiful icons. Simply right-click (or control-click) on the group and select “Change Icon” from popup menu to change group icon.
  • URL Schemes:

  • Copy & Paste:
  • With hierarchical content (paragraphs are indented with whitespaces), Outlinely will parse and preserve the hierarchical info when pasting the text.

  • UI Themes: Themes now work uniformly on both Mac and mobile version. Changing theme will also update the looks and feels of: Sidebar, Document Browser panel, Auto-complete Dialog, Open-Quickly panel, Search&Navigate panel. There are 7 unique UI Themes in this update: Light, Dark, Thinkspace Golden, Maestro, Cobalt, Solarized Light, Zenburn.
  • Previewing: On Document Browser panel, you can preview the first two sections of each outline.
  • Make Numbered List, Make Lettered List: Two new menu items is added to the context menu when you right click on a text selection.
  • Improvements:
  • Outlinely can automatically create new documents by clicking on a wiki-style link when the linked outline does not exist.

  • New features:
  • Typewriter mode: In Typewriter mode, the line you’re typing is always kept centered on the screen. Typewriter mode gives you a more enjoyable editing experience. To toggle this mode on/off, use shortcut Shift+Command+T.
  • Word count, character count: Outlinely now displays document’s statistics as you type (word count, character count, topic count). You can switch between display formats (count words, count characters, count words and characters..) by clicking on the counter label. You can hide or show the Statistics bar by using shortcut Control+Command+K or by selecting menu item View > Show Counter.
  • Strikethrough style: You can use tilde characters in Markdown mode to add strikethrough style to text (word). In Rich Text mode, use Cmd-Y to add strikethrough style to selection.
  • Improvements:
  • Open Quickly Dialog: Press Command-Enter to open selected document in a new window.
  • The shortcut keys of command “Make Text Standard Size” are now Option-Command–0.
  • Theme: Color definition for search result’s background color.

  • New features:
  • Checkbox: Now you can create beautiful checklists right inside Outlinely. Insert checkboxes by: Keyboard shortcut (Shift-Cmd-C), menu command (Outline > Add Checkbox), or type “- [ ]” to expand.
  • Tag Auto Complete: Auto Complete Dropdown is displayed as you are typing the tag.
  • Text highlight: Text can be highlighted with a different background color. Add highlight by: Keyboard shortcut(Shift+Cmd-H), menu command (Format > Highlight). In Markdown mode, type ::text:: to add highlight.
  • Custom Themes: Now you can create your own theme for Outlinely and import your theme to Outlinely (File > Import Custom Theme). To learn how to create your custom theme, choose Help > How to create a custom theme.
  • Adjustable font size for individual topics: Font size can be increased or decreased for each individual topic. The keyboard shortcuts are: Option-Command-= (Make bigger), Option-Command-Minus (Make smaller). The commands are also available in the menu Format .
  • Improvements:
  • Open Quickly Dialog: Cleaner style for matched text (underline style is removed and bold style is added).
  • Checkbox syntax (- [ ], -[x]) is highlighted.
  • Improvements to preinstalled themes: Color definitions for selected text and highlighted text.
  • Preferences panel: New option to turn on/off Checkbox Expanding.
  • Style Popover: Redesigned and it also displays theme count, custom themes.

  • Fix: Fix a memory leak when closing window.
  • Fix: Scrolling glitch when editing text at the bottom of the editor.

  • New features:
  • Open Quickly (shortcut: Shift-Cmd-O). Searching and opening documents in Outlinely is faster than ever by just typing a few keystrokes. Outlinely will search for documents in Library that contain the search string in title or in content.
  • Adjustable Line height and Paragraph spacing. Now you can fit even more content on your screen. You can go to File > Preferences and configure these settings.
  • Import documents to Groups: Now you can easily import .outline, .opml files to Outlinely by right clicking the Group (on Sidebar) > Import...
  • Show Groups location in Finder: Quickly locate the location of a group by right clicking the Group (on Sidebar) > Show In Finder.
  • Improvements:

  • This is the biggest update to Outlinely ever! Outlinely has reached level 2.0:
  • A completely new user interface.
  • Introduce the Library: You can store, organize all your outlines into Folders, quickly write a draft in Inbox, or make a document "Favorited".
  • Many other improvements:
  • Now you can delete a line with keyboard shortcut Shift+Cmd+K.
  • Insert timestamp string with keyboard shortcut Cmd+T, insert datetime with keyboard shortcut Option+Cmd+T
