New in Optimism 2.5.0 (Nov 8, 2008)

  • New Charts - New charts give Optimism a face-lift, improved functionality, and plenty of flexibility for improving the program going forward. The Charts now display 10 records at a time instead of 7, they use rollover pop-ups to display exact chart values, and windows now replace scrolling to more easily view the checked records for a day. Further improvements in the coming months will be expanded date ranges for taking a "birds-eye view" and the ability to display different fields in the Charts.
  • PDF of Charts - The PDF is now a 4 page "report" that includes the Charts and records for the Stay Well Strategies, Triggers and Symptoms in a grid format.
  • Customize Headings - The labels "Stay Well Strategies", "Triggers" and "Symptoms" can be changed in the Preferences window, which is then reflected in the Record panel. The Report and Charts panels will be modified to reflect this change in the next update.

New in Optimism 2.2.0 (Oct 3, 2008)

  • A backup feature has been implemented as a safeguard against the database being lost or damaged. Optimism can be restored from backup using a Restore menu item in the File menu. The backup file trails the live database by input to one field.
  • Minor visual changes have been made, including removal of the Optimism logo from PDFs and printed output, and a new splash screen reflecting a website redesign.
  • Extra data displayed on the Chart and Report screens for trial users has been corrected.

New in Optimism 2.1.0 (Sep 19, 2008)

  • Help windows are now included in key spots in the application, with information on how the various functions work and some practical examples.
  • A new set of icons has replaced the previous set.
  • Trial data has been reintroduced for new users to help them quickly understand how to use the application. It is located in the first two weeks of the month prior to the application being first downloaded.

New in Optimism 2.0 (Sep 4, 2008)

  • Customization of fields - The great news is that you can now customize Optimism to closely reflect your own specific circumstances. In the “Stay Well Strategies”, “Triggers” and “Symptoms” groups you can now add, remove or rename any fields. Warning messages have been included as a safeguard, so that you don’t accidentally delete or rename a field that contains past data.
  • Record ratings on any or all fields - You can now record a rating of 1 to 10 in any of the same fields, where this will provide more meaningful records for you over time. If you decide to rename a “stay well” field as “drink adequate water”, you could then record the number of glasses (1 to 10) that you drink each day. If you experience irritability as a symptom, then you could choose to rate its severity each day.
  • The rating will show at the bottom of the charts in the listing of the fields checked for the day being viewed. It will also show on the report and in data that is exported from Optimism. With a future revision of the charts, you will also be able to view the rated fields over time. As a very simple example, you could graph your water intake over time compared with mood.
  • All groups have 20 fields - Up until now the “Triggers” group has had 28 fields compared with 20 for the other two groups. The last 8 trigger fields have been removed from the screen, but they are shown in the “Custom” window, and you can bring them back onto the screen by replacing other fields that you don’t need. Any data that you’ve recorded in these fields in previous versions will still be there.
  • Fill new record from last - This new function is to help you save time in entering your data. If your data entries for the current day are to be similar to those on the previous day then you can click on the “Fill” toolbar button to copy the entries across. This would save most or all of the data recording for the day.
  • Hours of sleep - This can now be left blank or sleep hours can be recorded with decimal places (not rounded).
  • The Notes area is much larger, making it easier to type into and read.
  • A link to the email reminder service is in the Help menu (see the Reminders menu item above). You need to create a login with password on the site to use the service.

New in Optimism 1.4 (May 30, 2008)

  • The updating process now closes the superseded application file, self-installs and launches the updated application file.
  • The right or Control click contextual menu has been enabled for all editable fields.
  • An issue with the alternative path to database (set in Preferences) has been fixed.
  • Changes have been made to non-critical text.

New in Optimism 1.3.7 (May 16, 2008)

  • Password protection is included. Set, change or remove a password using the File/Password menu item.
  • The application is now delivered as a single packaged file instead of a folder.
  • A bug causing the application to look distorted when the Preferences panel was open has been fixed.

New in Optimism 1.2.7 (May 6, 2008)

  • Clicking on the pen icon on the Charts screen takes you to the Record containing the corresponding notes. A button next to the Notes returns you to where you were.
  • The splash screen displays periodically rather than every time Optimism is opened. This makes the program faster to open, while retaining the important message that the application is not a replacement for professional medical help.
  • The text Your Mood has replaced How You Felt? on the Report screen and pdf, to reflect the wording on the Record and Charts screens.

New in Optimism 1.2.3 (Apr 23, 2008)

  • A Send Feedback button has been added to the Application menu, which takes the user to the Feedaback page on the Optimism website.
  • A bug in the Today button on the calendar has been fixed.

  • A pen icon on the charts panel indicates days in which notes have been recorded.

  • free so processing through the online store is not required.
  • Fixed line returns for text entry in the Comments box and on the Plan
  • screen.
