    MoveCM 1.2.3 - Changelog

    What's new in MoveCM 1.2.3:

    March 17th, 2011

    · MoveMBI: Fixed a user discovered problem with the menu items "Add Folder" and "Remove Folder" - the preferences window folder list was not updated when these menu items were selected, resulting in them having no effect.
    · MoveMBI: Removed the option "Make as submenu" from the Settings pane of preferences since it is not applicable to the menu bar app, only the contextual menu.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.2.2:

    March 14th, 2011

    · Fixed a problem where in some cases the program MoveMBI would not properly save its "permanent" password.
    · For MoveMBI, the "on" button in the Settings pane has been removed, since it only applies to the contextual menu.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.2.1:

    November 25th, 2010

    · For MoveMBI: Management of the various options available in Preferences has been simplified by moving the Preferences pane out of System Preferences and into the menu bar application itself. This simplifies both installation and access of preferences for MoveMBI. (Note: MoveCM, the contextual menu, and MoveService, the service, still require the system preference pane if you choose to use them rather than MoveMBI).

    What's new in MoveCM 1.2:

    October 13th, 2010

    · The MoveService window will now always display itself directly beneath the mouse (cursor) position in the Finder. This makes it more convenient to use the contextual menu of the MoveService window because you will not have to move the mouse to access it. (Note that the "Open Move Service Window" command, which is made available by this service, can be assigned a keyboard shortcut in the "Services Preferences" preference pane. Hence using your keyboard shortcut will display the window directly under your mouse.)

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.13:

    October 7th, 2010

    · Added a new service command item named "Close Move Service Window" for closing the MoveService window. This addition accompanies the existing "Open Move Service Window" and is primarily intended for enabling you to assign a keyboard short to close the MoveService window using the Services Preferences system preference pane. (Note that the invocation of the MoveService window is contextually dependent on a selection in the Finder.)
    · Assigning keyboard shortcuts. Open the Services Preferences from any Services menu in any application. After you install MoveService and launch it, its menu items house appear in the window. Scroll to the "Open Move Service Window" (or "Close Move Service Window") item, and double click in the area to the right of the items text to start an edit.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.12:

    August 3rd, 2010

    · Significantly extended the "Move to Select" feature of the MoveMBi and MoveService applications to support the other operations performed: copying, aliasing, hard linking, archiving.)
    · For MoveMBI you can now select any operation from the menu ("Move To", "Copy To", "Alias To" etc.) to display a navigation dialog to select the destination folder of the operation, rather than choose a predetermined folder from its submenu.
    · For MoveService there are more service menu items for displaying a navigation dialog to select the destination folder of the operation: "Alias to Select", "Compress to Select", "Copy to Select", "Hard Link to Select", in addition to "Move to Select." These items may need to be selected in "Services Preferences" if they are not already. Then they will display in the service menu of the Finder, as well as the Finder's Services contextual submenu.
    · Like MoveMBI, for MoveService you can now select any operation from the MoveService window menu ("Move To", "Copy To", "Alias To" etc.) to display a navigation dialog to select the destination folder of the operation, rather than choose a predetermined folder from its submenu.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.11:

    August 2nd, 2010

    · Bug fix: The new "Move To Select" function was not initializing to the current Finder selection.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.10:

    July 30th, 2010

    · Added a new menu item to the MoveService application service: "Move to Select"
    · When this menu item is selected you are prompted for a destination folder using a file system navigation window (analogous to choosing folders for saving files.)
    · This feature, previously added to the MoveService window and the MoveMBI menu bar application, enables you to select destination directories on the fly, rather than hard coding destinations in the preference pane.
    · "Move to Select" is available either from a Services menu or the Finder contextual menu when you control click on a file or folder.
    · (This feature is not available in the "old style" contextual menu, MoveCM, because they do not support user interface elements like windows.)

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.9:

    July 15th, 2010

    · The required context of for text selections or data provided by the Finder or other applications is set to text data of subtype "file path."
    · This helps to reduce service and contextual menu clutter because it prevents the services it provides from displaying in any application service or contextual menu when they are not applicable, i.e. when the text is not a file path referring to a file system object such as a file or folder.
    · The menu item options will continue to appear in the "Text" section of the Services Preferences, and not "Files and Folders," because it does indeed continue to operate the same way: using textual data.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.8:

    July 12th, 2010

    · MoveService menu updates. The menu was not always updated with current Finder selection when it should have been. It nows updates with each request for display.
    · Selection menu: The "first item" menu item now displays a submenu with all selected item names and icons. If you select one, it opens the item in the Finder.
    · Folder items: Added tool tip to folder menu items with the path to the folder (note that this is not really necessary if the option to show menu items as full paths is selected.)
    · Move To navigation. The "Move To" menu item selection now prompts for destination using a file navigation dialog window. Of course predefined locations in submenu items still move the item to the selected menu item folder. (The addition of this feature is accompanied by a change in how the "predefined folder destination" submenus are built.)
    · Added a quit command to MoveService window menu to quit the background process.
    · Changed the cove/copy implementation to use latest system software for these operations.
    · Wrapping: Changed name for default to the form, "Wrapped Items [date-time]" as in "Wrapped Items 2010-07-10 20-57-56 -0400"
    · Preferences: Added a preference option to open the move service window on program launch ("Open Move Service Window")
    · Preferences: Added a preference option to prompt for wrap destination, rather than a default folder in the same parent directory as the selected items to wrap ("Prompt for Wrap Folder")
    · Preferences: Added a preference option to copy and not move when wrapping ("Wrap Copies, not Moves")
    · Preferences: Added a preference option to preserve Spotlight comments on move/copy ("Preserve Comments")

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.7:

    July 7th, 2010

    · MoveService now makes the regular MoveCM (or MoveMBI) dynamic menu available via a small floating panel window. (The "regular dynamic" menu is the one displayed by the "old style" contextual menu for Mac OS 10.4 and 10.5, and the MoveMBI menu bar application for Mac OS 10.6, which is configurable using the preference pane, MoveCM.prefPane.)
    · After MoveService is running, open the service window by choosing "Open Move Service Window" from either the services menu or Finder contextual menu, when a selection exists in the Finder (select this menu item option in Services Preferences, accessible from any Services Menu.)
    · The MoveService menu is displayed when you control-click in the service window, and works identically to the MoveCM contextual menu and the MoveMBI menu bar menu. In particular it is configured in the usual manner using the System Preference pane, MoveCM.prefPane, which must be installed in your "PreferencePanes" folder (in your Home or root Library.)

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.6:

    June 11th, 2010

    · Added "Move to Desktop Pictures" to the services available from the MoveService application.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.5:

    June 10th, 2010

    · Added "Move to Desktop" to the services available from the MoveService application.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.4:

    June 8th, 2010

    · Introduces a "service" item for moving files and folder to common locations: Home, Documents, Music, Movies, Pictures, etc. This item is a background application you should install in your Applications folder. (Launch it for the first time manually to initially have the menu items refreshed in the system.) Use the MoveCM preferences to specify options like "replace files by same name" or "reveal file" after it is moved. File comments are always preserved when a move is executed. Consult the system console log for messages issued by this application.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.3:

    June 4th, 2010

    · Added optional menu item to create "hard links" to files and folders. Use the Preferences pane to select or deselect this option.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.2:

    June 2nd, 2010

    · A new option has been added to the Preferences panel: delete items by the same name in the destination folder when moving items. This option is OFF by default. (When this option is not ON the existing item is renamed by appending its name with a UUID as usual, and then the move is performed.)

    What's new in MoveCM 1.1.1:

    May 26th, 2010

    · The display speed of the menu bar application, MoveMBI, has been greatly improved.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.15:

    May 25th, 2010

    · Introduced the "MBI" or "Menu Bar Item" application version of the program, MoveMBI. This implementation is meant to replace the contextual menu (CM) in system Mac OS X version 10.6 and above, yet it works in Mac OS X 10.4 and above, and has all the same functionality as the CM. Use the same Preference pane to administer the options.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.14:

    May 2nd, 2009

    · The contextual menu can be turned "on" and "off" from its system preference pane.
    · The program now requires Mac OS X 10.5 or above.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.13:

    November 10th, 2008

    · Bug fix: The program would not always move or paste all selected files in Mac OS 10.4 (Tiger) and the Finder would hang.
    · When moving or pasting files: if a file by the same name already exists in the destination folder then the moved file is renamed by appending a unique string to the original name to avoid the name conflict.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.12:

    November 6th, 2008

    · Added "Copy and "Paste" for files and folders.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.11:

    October 31st, 2008

    · Added a new feature called "Wrap Items" which puts the selection of items into a new folder at the same level as the items.
    · The name of the new folder is uniquely chosen so that it does not match any item in the same folder. (The console log will display the name of the new folder in case you can't find it.) This menu item is optional. Use the system preference pane to turn the option off or on.)

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.10:

    July 9th, 2008

    · Fixed a problem that could cause the contextual menu to crash when upgrading from a version prior to version 1.0.8.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.9:

    July 7th, 2008

    · Using the new "Settings" tab of the system preference pane you can now specify which menu items (Move To, Copy To, Archive To, Alias To or Open Folder) appear in the menu.
    · The new "Settings" tab now also contains all options that were not part of the tabbed pane.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.8:

    May 26th, 2008

    · The program now stores aliases to folders, rather than absolute pathnames, so that if they are moved or renamed they can be found.
    · The folder list can now be rearranged by dragging multiple items at once, as opposed to only one at a time.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.7:

    May 12th, 2008

    · Added option to create the menu items as a submenu of the Finder's contextual menu. Use the preference pane to turn this feature on and off.

    What's new in MoveCM 1.0.6:

    May 9th, 2008

    · The option to open the destination folder after the selected operation has been replaced by the option to reveal the resultant item in the Finder.
    · Extension matching is no longer case sensitive.
    · When adding extensions for "Put In It's Place" the contextual menu is updated immediately (no need to close preferences.)
