What's new in Last Chance To See 10.3.3

Dec 24, 2019
  • Find Pictures has been edited again, all chapters were checked now
  • and should work as expected.

New in Last Chance To See 10.0 (Aug 21, 2018)

  • Now starting to release 64 bit capable releases of the software. Last Chance To See Reader 10.0 and the upcoming ports of the coming software projects require Mac OS X 10.9 and above.

New in Last Chance To See 9.4 (Jan 3, 2017)

  • According to the Apple Human Interface Guidelines, the Preferences window now remembers the last selected toolbar item.

New in Last Chance To See 9.3 (Aug 16, 2016)

  • New Codesign using OS X El Capitan 10.11.6 and AppWrapper 3.6.1, hopefully a little bit better compatibility with coming macOS versions.

New in Last Chance To See 9.2 (Jan 25, 2016)

  • Again, the newest Xojo compiler version (which is 2015r4 now) has been used to ship the Last Chance To See Reader.
  • When switching back from full-screen to windowed mode, the correct window size should be set again.

New in Last Chance To See 9.1 (Dec 14, 2015)

  • No longer should crash when quit in full-screen mode.

New in Last Chance To See 9.0 (Sep 27, 2015)

  • Newest Xojo version has been used to compile this version.
  • Supports fullscreen button introduced in OS X 10.8.

New in Last Chance To See 8.6 (Sep 20, 2015)

  • Bug fixes regarding recognizing the "Last Chance To See" CD ROMs.
  • Help text files has been revisited.

New in Last Chance To See 8.5 (Jun 24, 2015)

  • Text Search, broken in 8.0 to 8.4, is working again.

New in Last Chance To See 8.4 (Sep 1, 2014)

  • Using previous versions, opening a bookmark does not stop reciting the previously read chapter. Starting in Version 8.4, now opening a Bookmark stops reciting of the current chapter and starts reciting the new one, which is the correct behavior.

New in Last Chance To See 8.3 (Aug 11, 2014)

  • Both the current Cocoa version (8.3 now) and the Carbon version 7.3 (which still runs on PowerPC-based Macintoshes with Mac OS X 10.4 installed): When a source is still not given, the "Last Chance To See" CD-ROMs in the drive will now be recognized more reliable as before.

New in Last Chance To See 8.2.1 (Jul 9, 2014)

  • The current Cocoa version (8.2.1) got some slightly bug fixes. The Carbon version 7.2.1 (which runs as well on PowerPC-based Macintoshes with Mac OS X 10.4 installed), will remember its preference settings now.

New in Last Chance To See 8.2 (Jun 23, 2014)

  • When calling the The About Dialog Box, it will no longer hide in the background.

New in Last Chance To See 8.1 (Dec 19, 2013)

  • Because Xojo, Inc., announced the minimum System requirement of Mac OS X 10.7 for the next release of their compiler, here is a newer version of the "Last Chance To See" Reader using Cocoa framework, compatible to Mac OS X 10.6, still compiled with Xojo 2013r3.2. The previous Intel-only version has been compiled with an older version of Xojo.

New in Last Chance To See 8.0 (Sep 30, 2013)

  • Now, an Intel-only version has been published, using Xojo.
  • Also, this game has been modifyed with AppWrapper by Ohanaware to add the category property to the application package. It's listed in the category "References" inside your Applications folder. "Last Chance To See" Reader 8.0 requires Mac OS X 10.6 minimum installed.

New in Last Chance To See 7.1 (Sep 11, 2013)

  • When attempting to call a Sidebar window using the menu item "Sidebars", if it is in a different section than the current section displayed, now the Reader calls the correct section before. The Reader knows at which pages the particular Sidebar belongs to, but checks for the correct section now as well.
  • Hopefully the Reader no longer quits with a NilObjectException if you change between the CD-ROMs using the Toolbar items.

New in Last Chance To See 7.0.2 (Jul 25, 2013)

  • Additional info: Contains the fixes accomplished in 7.0.1 (some issues when selecting
  • a different source location to read from [specially when mixing PC and Mac sources to
  • read]), and some other bug fixes as well .

New in Last Chance To See 7.0 (Jul 20, 2013)

  • Sorry about removing VLC Player as player of the main window now. Seems VLC Player (no longer? ) want to play the main sound, or the Reader won't pass the informations to play the sound to VLC. VLC is still the only option to play the sound of the Sidebar windows, if using the PC version as "Last Chance To See" source. The sound of the main window will only be played with QuickTime again, like in earlier versions of this Reader.
  • The Sidebar window tries to display a warning text field, if the VLC Player could not be opened or if the VLC Player could not start the sound.
  • While using the "small" window size: When starting a chapter by clicking its symbol picture at the Content screen, it no longer displays the large pict when starting the chapter. Instead of, it displays the smaller pict at the left area and the text field located right from it as well. This is the initial display method of the original application and intended to be the same here.
  • Fixed the reciting after performing a text or picture search. When opening the new page, the Reader starts to recite the correct page, not continuing the previously displayed page.
  • The original "Last Chance To See" PC application requires a 16-bit Windows 3.1/95 installation and runs fine up to Windows XP, at least. Runs also with DOSBox, if Windows 3.1 is installed within, but it's a bit choppy.
  • The original "Last Chance To See" Macintosh application requires a 68k based Macintosh line or emulator equivalent and still runs fine on PowerPC based Macintoshes up to Mac OS 9.2.2.
  • Thought it's not perfect at all, this "Last Chance To See" Reader simply replaces the PC or Mac application shipped on the original CD-ROM media.

New in Last Chance To See 6.0 (Nov 22, 2012)

  • Now supports Mac version (1992 by Voyager) as well.
  • While the Sidebar audio files found in PC version still needs VLC to be played, the
  • same files found in the original Mac version can be played with QuickTime directly.
  • QuickTime is included in Mac OS X.
  • About the Sidebar menu items: Usually, calling a Sidebar menu item displays the
  • appropriate page of "Last Chance To See" in the main window (like the
  • original "Last Chance To See" version does) . If a small picture is
  • displayed on the main window, click on it to open the Sidebar directly. Now in the
  • Reader application, if the appropriate page is already displayed, calling the menu
  • item of the Sidebar connected to this page will display the sidebar window
  • immediately.
  • Version 6.0 still runs on PowerPC based Macintoshes with Mac OS X 10.4 installed.

New in Last Chance To See 5.3 (Mar 5, 2012)

  • If switching back from a chapter to content screen, the 'Replay', 'Start' and 'Stop' menu items are disabled now. There is no use for them in the Contents screen. Other code optimizations, too.

New in Last Chance To See 5.2.1 (Jan 3, 2012)

  • Last Chance Reader 5.2.1 remembers its preferences now. This is of interest especially if you've copied the Last Chance To See PC version content onto your hard disk, so the Last Chance Reader should remember that location now. The goal of Last Chance To See Reader for Mac is to browse the Last Chance To See PC version on the Mac.

New in Last Chance To See 5.2 (Dec 29, 2011)

  • No new functions, this is simply a re-compiling using a more recent REALbasic compiler version.

New in Last Chance To See 5.1 (Jul 15, 2011)

  • The ability to use the VLC Player to hear the sidebar audio files
  • has been fixed (which doesn't play with standard Quicktime). By mistake, it tries to run hard coded path to the audio files, located on an external hard disk of the programmer's computer system. Version 5.1 fixed the hard coded path to variable path setting, like given in "Last Chance To See" Reader preferences window.
  • Still runs on PowerPC-based Macintosh models with Mac OS X 10.4 minimum installed.

New in Last Chance To See 5.0 (Apr 26, 2011)

  • The 'Last Chance To See' Reader can be set to use the VLC media player to play the audio files. Especially, this is recommended to get the Sidebar audio files played, which can't be done with the Quicktime System extension. If VLC has been downloaded recently and has been started for the very first time, the Reader may occur the bouncing beach ball, until you'll switch to the Finder application and have confirmed to run the VLC player („You‘ve downloaded this application from the World-wide web. Do you want to run it?“). This is the normal case to every application downloaded.
  • When you click the toolbar button 'Bookmark' to display the Bookmark window, the reciting of the text no longer will be interrupted.
  • Because adding a bookmark opens a dialog window, running this command also stops the reciting of the text. Additionally, the Bookmark window is now a floating window.
  • Some graphics has been changed. The left/right arrow buttons found in the toolbar line has been borrowed from Mac OS X 10.2 before, now replaced by graphical left/right buttons found in Mac OS X 10.6
  • The 'Find Text' window now offers a Combobox search field, which remembers text entered before.
  • The File menu adds a new sub menu, where you can change the main window's size, which is also possible while run-time.
  • Hoping, it'll no longer get the spinning beach ball if source is read from CD.
  • The preferences of the source path setting will be remembered correctly now. Version 4.0 switched this setting on its own, without been ordered by the user.
  • Play/Stop buttons are activated now (to start the sound at every time), if automatic sound playing has been deactivated in the preferences.
  • While in Chapter 6, the correct sidebar menu items will be listed now.
  • When you disconnect an external hard disk where you may've stored the Last Chance To See content, the Reader should no longer be quit unexpectedly.
  • There are still some issues with the Reader: Sometimes, the audio doesn't start automatically. To start anyway, first press the button 'Stop', then press the button 'Play'. Another not yet solved issue:, sometimes the Reader starts to play with page 2 of a chapter.
  • Still runs on Macintosh computers equipped with PowerPC, if Mac OS X 10.4 minimum is installed.

New in Last Chance To See 3.2 (Jul 12, 2010)

  • In older versions a programming mistake prevents CD-ROM #2 for Windows from being recognized.
  • Near future plan to Last Chance To See Reader for Mac OS X is: Reading content directly from CD-ROM.
