  • This version of JIRA Client supports JIRA 7.0. The JIRA Client desktop application can connect to any supported JIRA server. However, if you use the JIRA Client server plugin, you must install the correct version: 3.7 for JIRA 6.3 to 7.0+, and previous versions of the plugin for JIRA 5.2 to 6.4.x.
  • Bundled with Java 8 runtime:
  • JIRA Client is now fully compatible with the Java 8 runtime. The OS X and Windows distributions are bundled with the latest Java 8 version, which allows JIRA Client to utilize its improved SSL support.
  • Other improvements:
  • Now JIRA Client shows version statuses (not yet released, released, archived) depicted by an icon. Archived versions are displayed separately, after unarchived ones.

  • JIRA Client 3.6 comes with a built-in spelling checker. It checks all text fields for misprints and suggests corrections. It supports English, German, French, Spanish and Russian languages and a user dictionary.
  • Custom Hierarchies
  • Previous versions of JIRA Client allowed you to view issues arranged into hierarchies based on the issue links. In this new version, you can define custom hierarchies based on several link types at the same time.
  • Other Improvements
  • JIRA Client 3.6 comes with the following additional improvements:
  • Assignee editor only shows users you can actually assign the issue to.
  • Now you can quickly open attached files with the default program.
  • Support for Basic HTTP Authentication was restored.
  • Minor incompatibilities with modern Java versions were fixed. JIRA Client is now compatible with Java 7 and 8 from Oracle.
  • Mandatory issue fields are clearly marked now and if some field is missing this is indicated when you hit Upload button.

  • The latter bug was particularly serious in Lion, where a lot of the symbolic links in the system are compressed. Compression is controlled by one of the BSD file flags; failing to set it would leave the link unusable.

New in JIRA Client 3.0 Alpha 4 (Apr 26, 2012)

  • Improved issue hierarchy in the issue table. Before 3.0, if an issue had several "parents" in the selected hierarchy, it would be shown at the top level, as if it had no parents at all. Now it is shown in the hierarchy multiple times — under each of its parents.
  • Improved naming of the new attachments. Now the user can rename attachments before they are uploaded to the server, so that attachments are created with user-readable names without actually renaming the files on disk. Also, it's possible to specify the initial file name of a new screenshot while editing it.
  • In the New Issue and Edit Issue dialogs, custom fields of the "Version Picker" type now have only relevant variants to choose from, showing only versions of the project that the issue belongs to.
  • More data is preserved after migrating from earlier JIRA Client versions. For example, if connection "Get changes in Background" setting was turned off, it will remain turned off.
