Fopydo Image Scan Changelog

What's new in Fopydo Image Scan 2.9.5

May 23, 2013
  • Fixed an issue with UTF-8 character outside of ASCII codes in the file path.
  • Fixed a bug with rotation of individual images by 270 degrees.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.9.4 (May 16, 2013)

  • Default output format - PDF or TIFF - may be set in Tools->Preferences->Defaults. The default may be changed for each document.
  • TIFF format is more limited in functionality than PDF and certain processing options are disabled for TIFF output.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.9.3 (May 9, 2013)

  • A garbage folder for junk faxes may be set in Tools->Preferences->Defaults. If not set, junk faxes are deleted automatically.
  • A 'junk fax' check-box was added to program functions dealing with fax processing (function shortcuts: N O)

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.9.2 (May 2, 2013)

  • Contains several changes for scanning batches of documents using barcode separators:
  • Default input folders for captured images, scanned documents and faxes may be set in Tools->Preferences->Defaults.
  • A default file name format for documents may be set to a barcode value, a date/time stamp or a sequence number in Tools->Preferences->Defaults. So now there is a way to assign a unique name for each document automatically even if a copy of the same barcode is used.
  • A document counter is displayed at the bottom of the user interface (doc #K out of #N in the batch) during the document preview.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.9.1 (Mar 25, 2013)

  • Paste button functionality is fixed
  • Default operation to last completed operation
  • Show selected operation on the 2nd screen
  • Default trim to the trim on the first page (exceptions: photo albums, scanned docs and faxes)

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.9.0 (Mar 11, 2013)

  • A major release with several user interface changes to make Fopydo more intuitive to use.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.8.4 (Feb 11, 2013)

  • Photo albums now open with thumb images on the side by default
  • Documents open using default set by user in PDF reader on their computer, because users know the best option for the type and size of monitor that they are using. For instance: outlines take too much space if the PDF is opened on the laptop.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.8.3 (Feb 4, 2013)

  • This version has a fix for the compatibility issue with the PDFs created by HP Scan tool that is installed with HP printer-copier-fax-scanner devices. As of this version you can capture a batch of documents using HP scanner and use Fopydo barcode functionality to separate documents.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.8.1 (Jan 15, 2013)

  • Corrected issues with image rotation and trim on preview screen and in resulting documents discovered after v.2.8 was released (e.g. when the images were rotated in Picasa)
  • Corrected hanging issue that occurred during image color quantization to grayscale on higher-end machines.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.8.0 (Jan 3, 2013)

  • Individual pages of photo albums and documents may be trimmed, rotated and labeled easily. Please note that labels typed in non-ascii characters will be represented in ASCII using unidecode module - full UTF-8 support for document titles and labels will be implemented in the near future.
  • Sampling speed is significantly improved to facilitate scanning of long documents and books.
  • If all pages of a document/book have the same size: the page size specified for the first page applies to all pages. If the trim is moved left/right or up/down on the second page - this trim change is applied on all even pages. Trim can be also adjusted left/right and up/down on each page.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.7.1 (Dec 3, 2012)

  • Images of 'odd' and 'even' book/document pages may be in different folders. Use Input->Folder option and check box 'Odd and even pages captured using two cameras'. Fopydo will automatically re-order pages in correct sequence. If this option is used, leave the default Two-sided->Not applicable in the Image sampler directives pop-up.
  • This function was implemented to support book scanners equipped in 2 digital cameras - one camera for capturing odd pages and one for capturing even pages.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.7 (Nov 24, 2012)

  • 'Folder' input option allows selecting the folder where faxes are stored on the network.
  • Skip button in the left panel leaves the document untouched on the network folder to support sharing the same fax by more than one person.
  • Skip check-box below page preview allows skipping individual pages e.g. the cover sheet.
  • 'Open in viewer' check-box was added to stream-line processing by opening faxes that need to be signed (this requires a free Adobe Reader). Capturing of signature for digital signing using Adobe Reader was implemented in version 2.6.5.
  • The default 'Result' folder for storing processed faxes may be set in Tools->Preferences.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.6.5 (Nov 12, 2012)

  • Now you can take a picture of your signature and Fopydo will create an image suitable for signing PDF documents using Adobe Reader.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.6.4 (Nov 12, 2012)

  • Fixed issues with reordering of images of double sided documents scanned using a digital camera and refresh of image preview screen.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.6.3 (Nov 12, 2012)

  • New option for scanning handwritten notes and drawings from pictures taken with a camera with higher sensitivity than prior functionality for printed text.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.6.2 (Oct 29, 2012)

  • Previous versions of Fopydo saved OCR results in RTF format. The OCR output is now changed to HTML HOCR for two reasons: better support for utf-8 in HTML and the fact that HOCR saves information about position of text blocks, lines and words.
  • Also modified the scaling of images in PDF output to facilitate annotating documents using Acrobat Reader (latest versions of Acrobat Reader for Windows and Mac made it easy to annotate and sign documents).

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.6.1 (Oct 17, 2012)

  • Corrected issues with extracting images from existing PDF. Also: the installer package for Mac is now signed using the installer certificate from Apple, to prevent from warnings during package installation in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.6.0 (Oct 9, 2012)

  • PDF files from scanners etc. can be now used as input files.
  • If PDF file matching the document title (without .PDF suffix) exists in selected output folder, Fopydo will give you an option to append pages to the existing document or overwrite. This functionality is intended for keeping digitized copies of paper documents growing over time e.g. notebooks, bill receipts, statements etc.
  • Added detection of blank pages in input from scanners, to allow double-sided scanning without the need to remove blank pages by hand in case of mixed one sided/double sided input.
  • Functionality for re-ordering and automatic rotation of pages of bound documents was moved to the sampling phase to make it work better with barcode detection.
  • Added preview of all document pages before submitting images for processing.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.5 (Jul 16, 2012)

  • The primary enhancement in this version is related to generation and scanning of barcode pages.
  • Use Tools->Barcode Generator option to create a PDF document with barcodes (one barcode per page). You define the barcode content - a prefix and sequence number.
  • You can scan several documents into a single TIFF file, place a barcode page before the first page of each document. The same applies to capturing documents with a camera: capture the image of the barcode page before the first page of each document.
  • Drag or paste a single TIFF file (from the scanner) or all captured images (from camera) into Fopydo "Images". Press Document button and select option 'Barcode page before first document page'.
  • Other enhancements:
  • Added Skip button to allow bypassing processing of documents that were scanned poorly

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.4 (Apr 26, 2012)

  • Added support for scanning several documents from a single batch of images. Document separators can be created by adding empty lines between image file names. Or, program identifies breaks between images automatically if the 'black' image is captured between documents e.g. by covering the lens.
  • Added support for Fopydo Scanning Stand. Images captured using the scanning stand are automatically sized and cropped.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.3.3 (Nov 29, 2011)

  • Added Paste button based on user suggestion that Drag and Drop is sometimes cumbersome to use.
  • Fixed a bug: after recent GUI changes it was possible to select Email option even if Email Setup was not completed in Tools->Preferences.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.3.2 (Nov 28, 2011)

  • Added Instructions and News pages in Fopydo to communicate with users better.
  • Also: added support for .jfx file extension. This is a file in TIFF format (multi-page), this file extension is used by internet fax services.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.3.1 (Nov 21, 2011)

  • Latest Tesseract OCR v.3.01 is embedded in this version
  • Added OCR language support for Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi and Thai (as new definition files became available for Tesseract)
  • Fixed bugs related to storing of utf8 characters in OCR output.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.3 (Nov 9, 2011)

  • OCR results are stored in a RTF document that can be opened with free (TextEdit, WordPad...) and commercial text editors. Contents are stored in UTF-8 to support various languages handled by Tesseract OCR (the OCR engine used by Fopydo).
  • User interface flow has been streamlined based on user comments from various sites.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.2.3 (Aug 22, 2011)

  • Contains an improved algorithm for local adaptive threshold, resulting in faster processing (15% faster on a 500 image test) and less 'grainy' results.

New in Fopydo Image Scan 2.2.1 (Aug 8, 2011)

  • Added support for scanned documents. Image source (digital camera or scanner) may be now selected before document images are converted to black-and-white. Scanned documents are processed using a faster thresholding algorithm. Document images from digital cameras require a slower thresholding algorithm for good results (so called local adaptive thresholding).
  • GUI changes - moved document title from the initial page on the dialog to the following page.
  • Tested Apple version on OS X Lion - it works.
