New in Disklens 1.1.0 (Apr 9, 2013)

  • Spotlight Comments (Tags):
  • In addition to searching by title or text content, Disklens will now find files and folders by their Spotlight comments as well:
  • There’s a new “Tags” category, containing all results whose Spotlight comments (tags) match the search terms (in addition to their usual classification such as Documents, Messages, etc.).
  • This little feature opens up a whole new way of organizing and finding information on your Mac. By tagging files and folders with, say, project, customer name, family event, camera model, sports activity, you name it, you basically add another dimension to search and discoverability.
  • To tag a file or folder, hit Cmd+I in Finder, and enter the tags in the “Spotlight comments” field.
  • Result Grouping:
  • In drill-down, the result list now groups search results by month:
  • Small improvement, but it adds valuable information in a very unintrusive way.
  • Categories Preferences:
  • There’s a new preferences user interface for configuring inclusion and ordering of categories, a feature demanded by many users:
  • Other Improvements:
  • There’s now a bit of vertical padding between categories:
  • The info popup now shows pixel dimensions for images and videos:
  • The result of a calculation (i.e., when you enter a mathematical expression into the search field) can now be copied to the clipboard with Cmd+C.
  • There’s a new “To-Do” category. Right now, it will only list Things items. If you get “Unresolved items” that clearly belong to your favorite To-Do manager, please email the respective content types to me by clicking on the “Unresolved items, please click here” entry at the bottom of the result list.
  • When navigating back out of drill-down, the drill-down category is now selected, and the scroll position properly restored.
  • Fixed an issue with the shortcut on MacOS X 10.8.
  • Disklens is now localized for English, French, German, and Spanish.
