New in Capture One 23 11.1.0 Build 135 (Apr 19, 2018)

  • NEW FEATURE SUMMARY:
  • New Normalize tool
  • Create Style Layers from the Styles tool
  • Enhanced LCC presets
  • Expanded Apple Script
  • Includes “SPRING” Style Pack
  • PERFORMANCE:
  • Faster importing for large collections on Mac
  • Faster “locate” directories (in Catalogs) on Windows
  • NOTABLE CHANGES:
  • Customize Toolbar now supports Icon & Text when selected (Mac)
  • Floating tools persist when switching focus to another app (Mac)
  • Improved Live View for D850
  • Faster tethering performance on Windows
  • NEW: NORMALIZE TOOL:
  • The Normalize tool is designed to make easier baseline corrections to images. The tool allows you to store any RGB values in a picker, on which to base corrective White Balance and Exposure values in the target image.
  • There are two ways to use the tool. Either by using the Normalize pickers to pick and store a value (to then use and apply on other images), or by typing in the desired RGB values in the Color Selector which will set the values to the Apply tool.
  • This is especially useful for correcting difficult images, working in Target critical environments, or aligning a look across varied exposures.
  • The Normalize tool replaces the Skin Tone White Balance tab in the White Balance tool but can be used in exactly the same way by excluding the Exposure option.
  • CREATE STYLE LAYERS (FROM THE STYLES TOOL):
  • 11.0 added the ability to apply presets to masks. The access to this ability has been improved for Styles by adding a new feature to the Styles tool. Right click on a Style in the Styles tool to show Layer options: Add to Background, Add to new Layer or Add to Current Layer.
  • Note only Styles and Presets where the adjustment is supported in masks can be applied to layers - e.g Grain, Meta data, Rotation presets are not supported in this approach. In these cases the Style will only be partially applied where possible.
  • “SPRING” STYLES PACK INCLUDED:
  • The “SPRING” Styles pack is included in 11.1 to use in conjunction with the improved Styles workflow. The original built-in Styles are consolidated to a “LEGACY” Styles pack. Both packs can be found in the Styles tool under the “Built-in Styles” section.
  • NEW SHORTCUTS:
  • Shortcuts for “Layer On/Off” and “Go To Background” are added to shortcut manager for faster workflow when working with layers.
  • ENHANCED LCC PRESETS:
  • LCC presets can now include the lens profile and shift X/Y data (if used) as part of the saved preset, to aid in more streamlined workflow when correcting for lens cast. If an image is selected (with parameters in the lens tool set that match a stored preset), the enhanced LCC preset manager will suggest “recommended” LCC presets from all the users stored presets (using Aperture, Lens and shift data to suggest relevant presets).
  • CREATING LCC PRESETS:
  • To leverage the new ability, make sure the lens profile and Movements tab is properly configured for the calibration source file before creating the LCC preset. Create the LCC, then save as preset. It is a good idea to name the preset using relevant data for future reference - Aperture, Lens and Shift info for example.
  • EXPANDED APPLE SCRIPT (MAC ONLY):
  • Industrial and high volume users can leverage more automated processes with additional support for the following Apple Script functions:
  • Document Templates
  • Camera attribute stepping
  • Easier Favorite collection creation (can be file (URL) or text (POSIX path)) Auto adjustments
  • Variant Reset
  • Open Scripting Dictionary from within Capture One
  • Camera Focus commands
  • Back-up Document
  • Layer Adjustments

  • Capture One can now view PSD assets, leveraging Capture One’s cataloging ability as an Asset Manager for working PSD files. To open an asset, select it, right click> open with... and choose PS. Save PSD’s from PS with “maximize compatibility” enabled to view the returning asset in Capture One. Note: adjustments and meta data can be added to the PSD file in Capture One for organizational purposes, but these will be ignored if opening the asset in PS. Adjustments can only be “committed” to the PSD file if the file is re-processed (however layers in the PSD file will be fiattened in the resulting output file.)

  • Improved Watermark Quality:
  • The quality of the text type watermark has been improved, especially noticeable with smaller output files.
  • Vectorscope Orientation Color-Wheels:
  • Colorists familiar with the “Vectorscope” layout orientation of the color-wheels can now change orientation in the preferences to match that of their other application work ows, leveraging muscle memory on the Tangent control surfaces.
  • Automation with Apple Script :
  • More functionality is added to the scripting dictionary, giving Capture One some serious automation functionality.
  • OpenCL: UX improvements:

New in Capture One 23 10.0.0 Build 193 (Dec 3, 2016)

  • Performance focused re-write for faster viewing experience:
  • Operations all over the app for have been re-written for snappier performance when viewing and working with images: Caching of images, reduction in drawing latency and frame rates for adjustments are all improved.
  • New! 3-phase sharpening tools:
  • Capture One breaks up the old work ow of sharpening images in Capture One into three stages. Input, (Deconvolution sharpening), Creative, (from user input depending on content) and Output (based on the desired final medium/size/print media).
  • Input sharpening: “Difraction correction” is a check box in the lens tool - it will automatically apply correction if the image suffers from blurring due to the side effects of difraction limited optics. Note: processing time increases when this is adjustment is enabled.
  • Creative sharpening: This is the input from the user made with either the sharpening tool, or the sharpening tools as part of local adjustments. Radius, Threshold and the new Halo Suppression sliders can all now be used in local adjustments, in combination with (and independent of) the Background.
  • Output sharpening: In the adjustments tab of each recipe the user can define the output sharpening. To optimize, enable Proofing (see below) and adjust to required amount. For print sharpening, the user can also specify the distance the final output image should be viewed from.
  • New! Output Proofing:
  • Output proofing enables the user to imitate the final size, resolution, color and sharpening in the viewer as defined in the recipe. This is especially useful for outputting small files for web and optimizing compression quality as Jpeg compression artifacts can also be simulated. Press the glasses icon on the tool bar to see the simulated output based on the active recipe.
  • New! Halo Suppression
  • The sharpening tool has an additional parameter which reduces the visible side effect of “halos” when sharpening amount is used aggressively.
  • New! Video panel Hardware support for Tangent systems
  • Using a special new control layer decoupled from the UI, Capture One’s interface can be controlled by Tangent wave panel systems for the ultimate analogue control over your digital darkroom. Inspired by video grading applications, the implementation takes advantage of the Tangent Mapper SDK, exposing over 460 properties. These can be mapped in almost in nite configuration. See http://www.tangentwave.co.uk for hardware vendors.
  • Requires the “Tangent Hub” application to be installed in order to use supported hardware. See http://www.tangentwave.co.uk/capture-one/ for supporting software.
  • New! Default workspace:
  • The lens tool now is immediately after capture to reflect lens corrections are done (in some cases automatically) after the image is created. It is also where the first of the 3-phases of sharpening is applied (Diffraction Correction (if required)).
  • Composition tab is removed and crop tools moved to the lens tab (it is still available as an option and can be added if required)
  • The new focus tool is inserted in the Camera tab and Live view window
  • Tool bar has been cleaned up to remove some clutter and re-ordered slightly
  • New proof mode is inserted on the tool-bar (Pro/Pro (for Sony) Only)
  • Browser is set to the right
  • Uncollapsing of some tools to aid discovery
  • The “classic” 9 workspace can be found in the Window>workspace menu if needed.
  • New! Camera Focus tool:
  • The camera tool now includes a focus tool module for tethered cameras. Some functionality is only available for specific hardware. See the table below for supported functions
  • New! Filter for orientation of images:
  • A new filter type for orientation is added to allow the user to filter by orientation (portrait, landscape and square). This filter respects the crop if applied.
  • New! More Apple Script properties (Mac Only):
  • Apple scripting properties have been expanded to allow more control over custom application extensions. Exif properties (R/O) and IPTC (R/W) fields can now be targeted using scripting for manipulation of variant meta data. Pack/unpack EIP, sync meta data commands and variant selection complete the Scripting additions.
  • Optimized: Jpeg Output for Size/Quality:
  • The algorithms for Jpeg output are optimized to provide best quality at smallest possible size and more accurate estimate of the final size on disk in the summary.
  • Optimized: LCC for 100MP - Stripe reduction:
  • Microstripes created by extreme shifting with technical cameras on IQ1 100 and IQ3 100 digital backs can now be reduced by checking the more process intensive “technical wide angle” option when creating LCC files.
  • Optimized: LCC generation:
  • LCC creation has been optimized - giving a 20% reduction in time to create from the target.
  • Improved: Move folders in Catalogs:
  • When using Catalogs, folders in the Catalog “Folders” tool can now be moved to other folders for much easier asset management.
  • Improved: Compressed RAW Support:
  • Capture One’s full feature set for Lens Correction, Chromatic Aberration Analysis and LCC generation is now available for Canon mRAW / sRAW and Nikon RAW M (and RAW S for D5 and D500).
  • Improved: Auto masking:
  • Auto masking is extended to any editable file type (including Xtrans).
  • Improved: activation management:
  • After activation, the computer’s ID will now appear in the license window. This can be used for identifying the machine against the Computer ID in the License Manager in your phaseone.com profile - useful if you need to remove an activation from a specific machine in a work group.
  • Improved: Hardware Acceleration:
  • OpenCL is now enabled by default
