Afloat Changelog

What's new in Afloat 2.2

Oct 31, 2009
  • Added now Leopard support.

New in Afloat 2.1.1 (Jan 2, 2009)

  • Introduces PlugSuit 1.5.7 (release notes) and AppleScript support in Afloat, alongside minor bug fixes which prevented the donations reminder to be displayed in 2.1.

New in Afloat 2.1 (Dec 1, 2008)

  • This new version of Afloat introduces new features and bug fixes and is recommended to all users of previous versions of Afloat.
  • It includes the following new features:
  • Pin to Desktop: Choose Window > Adjust Effects and select Pin to Desktop to pin any window to the desktop. It will remain "glued" to the desktop's wallpaper, just below desktop icons, and is accessible when using Exposé to reveal the desktop.
  • Resize Anywhere: Hold down the Command key and Control key and drag a window with the right mouse button (or with two fingers on the trackpad) to resize it.

New in Afloat 2.1 Beta 1 (Nov 17, 2008)

  • Pin any window to the desktop from the Adjust Effects pane.
  • Resize Anywhere: hold down command and control and drag with the right mouse button (or with two fingers on the trackpad) to resize a window without having to reach for the bottom corner.
  • More Cocoa applications are now compatible with Afloat (including garbage-collected applications like Smultron and Xcode).

New in Afloat 2.0 R5 (May 26, 2008)

  • This new version of the Afloat package includes the same version of Afloat 2.0 that was previously available. It also includes PlugSuit 1.5.5, the new version of the PlugSuit plug-in manager and loader.

New in Afloat 2.0 R4 (Apr 24, 2008)

  • PlugSuit 1.5.4 includes a workaround for a bug that stops plug-in loading after it has been active for a long period of time; it also includes user interface refinements and the option to remove Afloat more completely through the Installer application. (Improvements to the PlugSuit Installer also apply to Afloat's Installer application.)

New in Afloat 2.0 R3 (Apr 7, 2008)

  • This new version includes the same versions of Afloat 2.0 and PlugSuit 1.5.3 that were previously available, but changes have been made to the packaging process so that their code signatures are now applied correctly to all resources. This fixes a rare but annoying problem that could result in Afloat not working at all on some systems.
  • A code signing error can have unexpected consequences on the software, as the system may find the application to have been unsuitably altered and disable it without user interaction. However, since actual occurrences of this problem are rare, this version has not been advertised onto standard update channels and remains a very minor revision; no new features have been added. If you do not experience problems, you can safely skip this version.

New in Afloat 2.0 R2 (Mar 31, 2008)

  • Fix: Users whose Library did not contain a PreferencePanes folder could not install PlugSuit and Afloat. (This was critical the PreferencePanes folder is now correctly created if missing.)
  • Fix: If a user had a current version of PlugSuit installed, the Afloat Installer would needlessly update it, resulting in files in the Trash that could not be removed until the next login. (PlugSuit is now replaced by Afloat's Installer only if an update is required.)
  • Fix: The "Donate for Afloat" application would cause a "downloaded from the Internet" warning when launched. The warning kept appearing repeatedly if the user canceled, only stopping after the user allowed the application to launch. (The Installer now clears "Donate for Afloat" and all other parts of Afloat with Mac OS X as part of the installation process. Note that users of previous versions can work around this bug by allowing the application to launch when first presented with the security alert.)
  • Fix: An oversight caused the Installer application to be unsigned. All other components of Afloat and PlugSuit are signed with ?labs's private key. (The Installer is now signed with the same private key as the other components.)

New in Afloat 2.0 Beta 5 (Mar 20, 2008)

  • Adium message windows now work with Afloat. Previously, they were ignored and the commands only affected the Contacts window, if open, instead of the message
  • window, or caused a beep and did nothing.
  • Users with MacBook Pro and MacBook Air multitouch trackpads can now Keep
  • Afloat using a gesture. To keep a window afloat, press control and command and swipe up with three fingers. To stop keeping a window afloat, press control and command and swipe down with three fingers. A badge will animate over the window to confirm your action, just like with the menu item.
  • Various user interface tweaks. These include increased opacity of the Adjust Effects HUD, a higher speed for the mouse-over animation for transparent windows, make it opaque not being turned on by default, and the final moving of the Turn All Overlays To Normal to the Window menu from the Adjust Effects HUD.
  • Various minor corrections to this Read Me. These reflect the new state and features of Afloat.
  • Final requirements have been set. Afloat 2.0 will require PlugSuit 1.5.3 or later and will run on Mac OS X 10.5 or later, on both PowerPC or Intel-based Macs. SIMBL 0.82 or later can be used in place of PlugSuit, but this is unsupported Afloat is only tested with PlugSuit.

New in Afloat 2.0 Beta 4 (Mar 19, 2008)

  • Afloat now works in Adium.
  • Added a Show Window?s File in Finder command in the Window menu.
  • The plug-in is now code-signed by ?labs. Previous versions were unsigned. You can use this signature to check whether the version of Afloat you have has been altered after download and may become more important in the future.
  • The included beta version of PlugSuit fixes a bug where you tried to install a new version of a plug-in you already had. The older plug-in is silently moved to the Trash.
