Adobe Photoshop Changelog

New in version CC 2014.2.2

December 17th, 2014
  • Collaborate on libraries:
  • You can now share libraries with collaborators from within Photoshop. Collaborators must have an Adobe ID. If they don't already have an Adobe ID, they can create one when they accept the invitation to collaborate.
  • Collaborators receive an email invitation. Existing Creative Cloud members also receive a notification via the Creative Cloud desktop app and website.
  • Improved Extract Assets dialog:
  • Assets are now clipped to document bounds by default. Photoshop Generator has also been updated to use this behavior by default.
  • When you group layers in the Layer panel, the group is now listed correctly in the Extract Assets dialog. This improvement comes handy when you want to create assets from composite layers.
  • Smart objects are now rendered with higher fidelity when an SVG asset is extracted for 2x or 3x versions.
  • Transformed shapes and text retain their transformations when they're exported as SVG assets.
  • You no longer require a workaround to use Extract Assets if you're using proxies to redirect localhost queries.
  • Previews of assets no longer fail because of invalid, incorrect, or duplicate layer syntax.

New in version CC 2014.2 (October 7th, 2014)

  • Creative Cloud Libraries:
  • Creative Cloud Libraries is a powerful new feature that lets you create, categorize, and store your favorite colors, brushes, text styles, graphics, and vector images in one easily accessible place. Then you can access them anywhere: Assets you create under the same Adobe ID will be visible across different computers—in a variety of applications like Photoshop CC—wherever you sign in.
  • Extract Assets:
  • The 2014.2 release of Photoshop CC introduces Extract Assets, a brand new user interface that lets you easily extract optimized image assets from layers and save them to various formats and resolutions, including SVG, JPG, PNG, or GIF. Using the simple visual Extract Assets interface built on top of Adobe Generator, you may extract content either on-demand or in real-time with auto-updated extractions tailored to your workflow.
  • This feature is particularly useful for web and screen designers who frequently create assets in multiple resolutions for use in websites and mobile apps.
  • Improved Guides:

  • We expect to add support for both of the new Apple Mac Pro’s GPUs, and continue to optimize our customers experience by supporting additional GPU operations in a future release.
  • Each of the two GPUs in the base model of Mac Pro are faster than the GPUs available in any other Mac model, and provide plenty of speed and VRAM (memory on the GPU card) for most operations. If you spend a great deal of time editing very large images using one of the GPU-accelerated Photoshop features such as Blur Gallery, Liquify, or 3D, we expect this gain to be significant. (The 6GB VRAM in the highest end GPU option would only be needed for the largest 3D models).
  • For additional guidance on hardware, OS and Photoshop configuration see this document on Tuning Photoshop for Peak Performance.
  • Mac OS X 10.9.x AppNap Optimizations:
  • AppNap is a new feature in OS X 10.9.x that tries to save power used to run applications that are not the current application and are completely invisible to the user. As such, AppNap can reduce performance or delay automated processes running in Photoshop if it’s hidden or all its windows are covered by other applications. The Photoshop CC 14.2 update prevents AppNap from putting Photoshop down for a nap if you’re running commands, batch actions or scripts in the background while you check mail or surf the web.

New in version CC 14.0 (June 18th, 2013)

  • A more connected Photoshop:
  • Photoshop CC is part of Creative Cloud. That means you have access to all the latest updates and future releases the moment they're available. Use Save to Cloud to keep your files organized across multiple computers. And with Behance integration, you can share your projects straight from Photoshop CC and get immediate feedback from creatives around the world.
  • All-new Smart Sharpen:
  • Rich textures, crisp edges, and distinct details. All-new Smart Sharpen is the most advanced sharpening technology available today. It analyzes images to maximize clarity and minimize noise and halos, and it lets you fine-tune for high-quality, natural-looking results.
  • Intelligent upsampling:
  • Enlarge a low-res image so it looks great in print, or start with a larger image and blow it up to poster or billboard size. New upsampling preserves detail and sharpness without introducing noise.
  • Extended features included:
  • As part of Creative Cloud, Photoshop gives you all the powerful image and video editing features you've come to expect — and it includes the advanced 3D editing and image analysis tools that were previously in Photoshop Extended.
  • Camera Raw 8 and layer support:
  • Apply Camera Raw edits as a filter to any layer or file inside Photoshop, and then enhance them any way you want. And with new Adobe Camera Raw 8, you get more precise ways to heal images, fix perspective distortions, and create vignettes.
  • Editable rounded rectangles:
  • One of your most requested features is here. Now you can resize shapes, edit them, and re-edit them — before or after they're created. Even edit individual corner radiuses in rounded rectangles. If a shape is bound for the web, export CSS data from the file to save time.
  • Multi- shape and path selection:
  • Get more done in fewer clicks by selecting multiple paths, shapes, and vector masks at once. Even in multilayered documents with lots of paths, you can easily target the path (and any layer) you want right on canvas using a new filter mode.
  • Camera Shake Reduction:
  • Save shots you thought were lost due to camera motion. Whether your blur was caused by slow shutter speed or a long focal length, Camera Shake Reduction analyzes its trajectory and helps restore sharpness.
  • Expanded Smart Object support:
  • Apply Blur Gallery and liquify effects nondestructively thanks to Smart Object support. Your original file stays intact as you add blur effects or push, pull, pucker, or bloat the image or video. Edit or remove the effects at any time — even after saving your file.
  • Improved 3D painting:
  • Live previews are now up to 100x faster and more responsive when you paint on 3D objects and texture maps. With the powerful Photoshop painting engine, you can make any 3D model look terrific.
  • Improved type styles:
  • You spend hours getting text to look just right. Type styles let you save your formatting as a preset that you can then apply with just a click. You can even define type styles to use across all your Photoshop documents.
  • Copying of CSS attributes:
  • When you hand-code a web design, you can't always get elements like rounded corners and colors to match your original. Now, let Photoshop generate CSS code for specific design elements, and simply copy and paste the code into your web editor to get the results you want.
  • Conditional Actions:
  • Put routine processing jobs on autopilot with Conditional Actions. These commands use if/then statements to automatically choose between different actions based on rules you set up.
  • Improved 3D Scene panel:
  • Make a smoother transition from 2D to 3D editing with a 3D Scene panel that has many of the options you already know from the Layers panel, like Duplicate, Instance, Groups, and Delete.
  • Workflow time-savers:
  • Save time on common tasks, thanks to small but frequently requested features from users like you. Create paths more easily with new modifier keys, move a path with the spacebar, include ICC profiles in PNG formats, and more.
  • Improved 3D effects:
  • Shadows and reflections can make or break your 3D artwork, and higher quality live previews help you get great looks faster. Plus, easily create better glow effects, scene illumination, and lighting for bumps and textures.
  • Color import from web files:
  • Import color swatches directly from HTML, CSS, or SVG files — for inspiration, or to easily match the color schemes of existing web content.
  • System anti-aliasing for type:
  • Get a realistic preview of how your type will look on the web with an option that closely matches the anti-aliasing of your Mac or Windows system.

New in version CS6 13.0.5 (June 4th, 2013)

  • Notable bugs fixed (Mac & Win):
  • When a transformed type layer’s point size is changed, the end result should be as if there was no transform (like CS5)
  • When moving a type layer with a free transform active, the size of the font changes to non-integer values
  • Notable Macintosh specific bugs fixed:
  • Clicking a Pop-up window in a Flash extension panel does not work and/or cause Photoshop to crash
  • Info panel displays incorrect value for adjustment layers inside groups
  • Restore View>Print Size menu command and Zoom tool right-click context menu
  • Legacy actions fail due to layer merge naming change
  • Black & White adjustment layer scrubby slider does not work if in a layer group
