Accordance Changelog

What's new in Accordance 13.1.7

Apr 19, 2021
  • Improved support for MT-ETCBC if HMT-W4 isn’t installed.
  • Added support for searching for SUFFIX pronom on the updated MT-ETCBC text that actually specifies gender/number/person. To maintain support in old version, the search can be for either P, 1, 2, or 3.
  • Updated Hebrew Roots to include new ETCBC suffix roots (all ‘nn’ roots).
  • Updated Help for 13.1.7

New in Accordance 13.1.6 (Apr 19, 2021)

  • Updated the rendering of the Syntax Tree pane for the Andersen-Forbes Hebrew database to not draw any lines to the Qere words in brackets.
  • Changed preference name “Insert citation as footnote” to read “Insert citation only as footnote”, to help clarify that no citation will appear when pasting into apps that don’t support RTF footnotes.
  • Changed Help menu link from ‘Podcasts’ to ‘Videos’ to reflect current training resources.
  • When doing initial setup, the Default Greek and Hebrew Key tool (used when overriding) is now set to the same choice as the Default Greek and Hebrew Dictionary, for a better initial experience. Otherwise those fields would just default to Tool #1.
  • French Timeline localization completed.
  • Spanish, French, Italian, and Chinese localization updates
  • Updated Help for 13.1.6
  • Library context menu items:
  • The “Export Selected Data” is now dimmed if a text is selected, since this option only works with Tools.
  • When nothing is selected, the option now reads “Export All Data”, to indicate that bibliography data will be exported for ALL tools where it is available.
  • The “Print” and “Copy Picture” options will now be dimmed unless nothing is selected, to indicate that these options apply to the Library as a whole, not to selected items.

New in Accordance 13.1.5 (Apr 19, 2021)

  • Live click now works in the Alignment pane for verse lookup, lexicon lookup, and word usage.
  • Added support for the analytics of a negative Intertext search, like ברא@-[LXX1 ποιεω].
  • When clicking on a Hebrew Research Pie chart section, the resulting search will now be the same (grammatical vs literal) as the source research. As a side effect of this change, the “Letters” and “Flex” fields will now work in Accordance URLs.
  • Added support for generation and processing of new Accord URL support for opening a Syntax database and optionally scrolling to a verse.
  • Syntax is the ‘study’ action with ‘syntax’ as the type, specifying the database as the query, with an optional scroll to. (e.g. accord://study/syntax?MT-AFD.syntax#Psa._10:3)
  • Links can be generated with a right-click in the Syntax pane to link to the verse clicked inside.
  • For the Andersen-Forbes database, updated two Noun Phrase labels in the Syntax Tree pane.
  • Added missing support for performing MTLXX actions on new MT-AFD text using the TEXT command.
  • Added support, when displaying Syntax results in the Analysis, to account for both bracket type and subType, distinguishing between forms like P and Pc.
  • Tutorial categories in the tutorial menu will now be alphabetized in the language they are shown, rather than keeping the English ordering.
  • The Syntax, Diagram, and WordMap will now have a placeholder image in the cover spot when showing “About This Text”.
  • Tools without Bibliography Information will now use the module title when bibliography format is set to one of the “Simple” modes.
  • The items from the “External URL Style” menu in Export preferences will now show when searching preferences.
  • It is now possible to copy information from Accordance error messages using “Ctrl+c” on Windows, or “Cmd+c” on Mac. The text of the error message does not need to be selected for this to work. The copied text will include debug information which should help developers identify the circumstances that lead to the error message.
  • French, Spanish, and Chinese Localization updates.
  • Updated Help for 13.1.5

New in Accordance 13.1.4 (Sep 25, 2020)

  • Added support for the Greek Crasis in the Construct tab palette.
  • In the Greek Construct tab palette, the Verb item is now double width to keep the tag columns equal length and because the Verb is most frequently used.
  • Added key command Cmd/Ctrl-L to put focus to the Web Browser’s URL entry field, like many modern browsers.
  • Reverted a previous change where sin/shin marks were stripped during export if the user had selected “Vowels & Cantillation”. This should only be true when “All Mark” is selected.
  • Tutorials and Expanded Timeline have been Localized for Spanish and Korean.
  • Updated to new Analytics and Crash reporting tools.
  • Updated help for 13.1.4.

New in Accordance 13.1.3 (Jul 30, 2020)

  • The research cache is no longer allowed to be rebuilt while a search is running, which prevents a crash. The user will get an error message if this is attempted.
  • Added the option of showing word glosses in the Syntax Tree pane, using the respective lexical form glosses for the Holmstedt and ETCBC syntax.
  • Added support for a new form of Greek Crasis searching, parsing, and analysis by making Crasis a new part of speech for Greek.
  • Added a new Parenthesis option when drawing a Highlight on a Text or Tool. This option is automatically used when drawing a rough parenthesis shape around a character in a line. If the drawing is too high or too non-symmetric, then the highlighting will revert to a curve that connects two items.
  • Users with more than 50 Highlight styles in their current Highlight file will now have the “Symbols” menu appear at the top of the Right Click -> Highlight menu, for easier access.
  • Users will now be prompted to apply Atlas/Timeline display preferences changes to all applicable open tabs when closing the preferences.
  • Updated About this Timeline dialog to support information for the new Enhanced Timeline.

New in Accordance 13.1.2 (Jul 2, 2020)

  • Timeline Changes:
  • Improved amplifying to the Timeline when the selected text has a wide range
  • If the items found by the text (such as ‘John’) span > 500 years, or are in non-adjacent/same regions, a dialog comes up allowing the user to choose which items to actually add to the Timeline.
  • Items are filtered to match the dating scheme of the opened Timeline.
  • Items also show their localized name, if appropriate.
  • If there are multiple times with the same name (e.g. ‘Titus’) then the item class is also shown.
  • List supports multi-select, so they can choose as many of the original set as desired, even all, to add to the Timeline.
  • Improved amplifying to the Timeline by a phrase, where first the phrase is attempted to be found, such as ‘John the Baptist’ before breaking it apart into its constituent pieces.
  • Reduced the minimum font size drawn in the Timeline before turning to a gray box “smudge” from 6 to 5 pts.
  • Improved the ‘Select Times’ dialog to be a multi-column dialog, clearly showing the (localized) name, region, class, and date range of each found time.
  • Other Changes:
  • New tutorial capabilities for the Timeline and Atlas.
  • In Papers, the hotkey for making a parent to the selected item (Shift+(Opt/Alt)+Return) will now properly insert the parent one step up in the hierarchy, rather than at the same level.
  • Where a Reference Tool in parallel to a Text would not line up properly if one of the preceding paragraphs was a table.
  • Changed how spaces are handled for Instant Details display of Inflect and Lexical forms.
  • When copying as a citation, the hidden link to the Accordance url will now be blue and underlined.
  • Strings such as "O 1" will no longer be interpreted as scripture in the Web Browser or when auto-linking scripture. ("O 1:1" can still be valid, in some cases.)
  • The “Dropbox Sync” toolbar button is now just “Sync”. A dialog will now ask the user if they want to sync with dropbox or sync with a mobile device on the same WiFi network. The user has the option not to be asked again, in which case the toolbar button will revert to directly doing the action without bringing up the dialog.
  • When searching the Library for an Author, and opening a Tool that is found, the Tool will also be searched for the found Author if it has an Author field.
  • Initial implementation of French and Spanish localized Tutorials.
  • Updated Help for 13.1.2

New in Accordance 13.1.1 (Jul 2, 2020)

  • Updated Help Files for 13.1.1

New in Accordance 13.1.0 (Jun 8, 2020)

  • Word Map Alignment Pane:
  • A specialized text pane type used to display Word Map alignments that supports Instant Details, cross highlighting, triple click, and text selection.
  • Added Word Maps to the Library (opening them opens a search tab + alignment pane), and renamed the section ‘Databases’ instead of ‘Syntax & Diagram’.
  • Added support for highlighting hits if the search Text is one of the Texts shown.
  • Ability to select and copy Alignment Pane data as a table.
  • Added support for exporting as an RTF table, not just tab delimited.
  • Amplify to Website:
  • Added a preference page “External Websites”:
  • Ability to customize a list of names, websites, and ‘enabled’ options, including support for separators.
  • The websites are URLs to actual search strings, not just the host.
  • Default External Websites list includes a set of default search engines and free access resources.
  • Website amplification Details:
  • Added to Text and Tool panes Right-Click menu, Amplify menu, and Toolbar Button.
  • Supports all languages, unicode, and references.
  • Interface Enhancements:
  • Added a new General Theme, Grayscale.
  • Changed pane text line spacing to be applied evenly, to top and bottom, rather than only extending the bottom. This allows for more even rendering, selection boxes, and lets a user add line spacing to draw characters beyond the ascent of the font, such as some unicode arabic characters, or some Asian glyphs.
  • Significant improvements to handling missing verses in all pane texts and placement of the extra verses.
  • Added support for showing Word Mapped phrases as an Interlinear option.
  • Updated bundled Accordance font to 1.2, including glyph U+FBF2 (arabic isolated allah)
  • Added an option to the right click "Look Up" menu to open the Instant Details pop up, which should be helpful for users on Windows tablets.
  • Intertextual Searching Improvements:
  • Renamed the ‘Enter Words’ option on the TEXT dialog to ‘Insert Text’, adding a ‘Show Characters…’ option to the bottom of the list, which shows the Character Palette.
  • Improved the TEXT command to be able to limit search results based on the number of words in the match, either in the source or Intertext search.
  • For example, one can specify to find every match where the intertext used 3-5 words to be equivalent to 2 word phrases in your source text.
  • Syntax is {TEXT #a-b=#c-d _arg_}. Where a-b is the word range (or just a) of the intertext, and c-d for the source text.
  • Also, only one half can be specified by {TEXT #a-b _arg_} or {TEXT =#c-d _arg_}
  • Added support to the TEXT dialog and its Construct representation.
  • Intertext Analysis:
  • Added support for the Smart Amplify from the Analysis to correctly build search strings using the TEXT command for MTLXX, Intertext, and Wordmap analysis results.
  • Now the Set Analysis Display for keyed texts uses the same interface as the tagged Set Analysis Display, with columns and a palette, though the only options are Word, Key Number, and Intertext.
  • Consolidated the MTLXX Analysis options into the Intertext dialog, for clarity.
  • The dialog now supports all Word Map Texts to show Analysis for, listed separately from those that were searched.
  • Added support for double-clicking on an Intertext item to re-open its dialog.
  • When hovering over Intertext analysis results, Accordance will show the source translation abbreviation.
  • Added support for graphing Intertext results. Details:
  • Only supports searches with one Intertextual text. If there are multiple, it is too ambiguous what words came from what Text.
  • The Intertext Select dialog now works from the Analysis Graph tab or the Set Analysis display dialog.
  • Searching Improvements:
  • Users that have verse reference Live Click set to open a Research in a custom group will now have a "=" before the search if holding the Option (Alt) key.
  • Added Recent Modules to the list of items that can be amplified to.
  • Added new Text Comparison option to ignore homograph differences, such as ברא_2 vs ברא_1.
  • Updated the preference for opening hyperlinks to a Text Tab if a hyperlink has too many verses for a Text Browser Tab to also apply if the hyperlink has discontiguous verses.
  • Syntax database Improvements:
  • Changed the interface for Syntax searching on all Syntax databases as follows:
  • All Syntax dialog boxes and Preferences with the item label “Maximum search depth:” have been changed to “Default depth” to support the new flexibility of the depth item for Syntax searching and to express the same idea with a “positive” rather than a “negative” logic to make this option clearer to users.
  • Similarly in the Preferences pane “Greek & Hebrew”, the checkbox item label “Limit depth to clause boundaries” was changed to “Allow hits within sub-clauses”, with the same type of logic reversal in the Preferences dialog display.
  • The interface for handling the depth of searching in a clause (or in a phrase) in the Construct tab has been changed as follows:
  • Instead of a single depth for the entire clause, the depth can be set for individual items within the clause.
  • In the clause dialogs, the depth setting is now the default depth setting. Any new items added under the clause will use the current default, which can be changed after items are added.
  • The individual depths are displayed as a single number above each column. This number can be changed by use of a floating popup menu which appears when the cursor is near the depth numbers along the bottom of the clause item.
  • Added support for setting the individual column depths when pressing a number on a selected clause or phrase item.
  • Added undo support when changing the depths of the columns either with the pull-down menu or by pressing a number on a selected clause or phrase item.
  • If the search depth option to “Allow hits within sub-clauses” is off or disabled, the depth numbers will appear red rather than black.
  • Saving and recalling the new option for individual depths is supported.
  • When the Construct tab is set for Hebrew, the colored small type box that appears near the item label is now consistently on the right side for all items, with the name of the item right justified near the small type box.
  • Greatly improved the extraction of Syntax data, which would sometime cause errors in the Instant Details and in the Amplify to Construct feature.
  • Improved ETCBC syntax Instant Details to ignore subphrase elements, so the items main phrase is shown instead.
  • When displaying the generic Clause item in the Construct tab from the Holmstedt Syntax database, the word ANY no longer appears with CLAUSE, even if there are other specific modifiers for the clause.
  • Improved the Syntax searching for cases related to the clause boundaries.
  • Amplify to Construct feature
  • Added the option to include null terms, if the Holmstedt syntax database is used.
  • Syntax Tree pane Improvements:
  • Added a new Syntax Tree display dialog:
  • Can set the current Syntax pane appearance (text size, text color, and pane background color).
  • For ETCBC Syntax, node label detail options are visible.
  • Timeline Changes:
  • Support for upcoming Timeline upgrade.
  • Added ability to amplify to the Timeline by verse reference, by parsing and verse mapping to the provided string in the Time Data file.
  • Added verse reference based timeline items to the Topics section of the Info Pane, even if there isn’t a topic for that name.
  • Completely revamped how Timeline searching works to add more flexibility and improve the logic for amplifying to Timeline tabs if an item exists in two different datings.
  • Added 5 new Timeline background colors and 1 new Timeline item color, so all possible options can have a unique color.
  • Tweaked the order of regions in the Timeline.
  • Added a ‘Report’ button on the Time selected item popover to open a report for the timespan of the selected items.
  • User Content Improvements:
  • Added a new feature, Modify Entire User Note/Tool:
  • This opens a dialog that allows for a batch application of a variety of style changes, such as scaling all font sizes, removing styling, etc.
  • It has a default shortcut of Cmd-Opt-U and appears in the Selection menu.
  • Papers
  • Added capability to add a new item as the parent by pressing Shift-Option-Return. (Currently, Return added a new sibling and Shift-Return added a daughter. Shift-Option return adds a parent)
  • Now when a Paper is set to only show one field, if that paper is opened in a new tab, it remembers which settings it last used.
  • User Tools
  • Pictures are now included when importing a PDF to a User Tool.
  • PDF imports consisting of only images will now add a title item with the user-selected User Tool name at the start of the tool.
  • Now if there is a style change in the middle of a scripture reference, the style now expands to cover the whole reference, rather than not getting marked. This is because in some documents, the book and verse number can be in different fonts/styles/sizes for stylistic reasons, or the style can be incorrectly set wrong due to an OCR mistake.
  • User Notes
  • Added a “User Files” preference to auto-save User Notes when they are closed, so the user doesn’t need to specify that they want to update every time they close.
  • The ability to view and edit all User Notes that appear in a single line of text:
  • Previously Instant Details would only show the User Note in a line of text where there were multiple User Notes. This was the same for viewing/editing the User Note icon(s) in the pane gutter.
  • Now Instant Details includes all notes that have their start in the currently selected line.
  • When right clicking in the pane gutter there are now options to view/view all/edit/add new User Notes for each index originating in the line of text.
  • Added “Small Caps” to the list of options in the “Display -> Style” menu. This will only be enabled in Papers, User Tools, and User Notes.
  • Easy Install & Check for Updates Improvements:
  • Updated Easy Install with a new “Download All” button. This will download all modules shown by the current search that are downloadable. Items in the download list are no longer checked by default, and the normal download button is dimmed until at least one item is checked.

New in Accordance 13.0.5 (Apr 13, 2020)

  • Added new tutorials on PDF import, Live Click, default Lexicons, and Hebrew.
  • Improved support for custom tutorials by now placing them in a Tutorials folder in the Accordance Files folder, rather than trying to add them to the bundled location.
  • The gear menu in a Parsing tab for a tagged Text now has the option to include hit words only, same as with a key Text.
  • Arabic texts will no longer attempt to look up their form in a Hebrew dictionary.
  • Improved display of roots in the Analysis tab by splitting the styles of the lex and the root, so it is consistently displayed to the right.
  • Added a sample pdf to import, ‘3 Early Sermons.pdf’ to the set of bundled content to install.
  • Improved unicode support for extended Latin characters.
  • Improved the Hebrew Unicode -> Yehudit conversion to better handle waw-holem-cantillation combinations. This helps match an imported unicode string of עֵ֖זֶר כְּנֶגְדּֽוֹ with the end of Gen 2:18.
  • Added the Greek Combining Iota Subscript (U+0345) as a unicode character to be considered as Greek, when following a Greek letter.
  • Added "New Research Tab" to the list of available Keyboard Shortcuts that can be set up in preferences.
  • Rearranged the “Compare Text” preferences page so that the “Keyed Text” control name in the German localization would not overlap other controls.
  • Added missing help page link to the Keyboard Shortcut preference pane.
  • Highlight styles loaded from a corrupt file will now be validated and their values adjusted back to an allowed range. If a style rev or the absolute style number is out of range, the style will be ignored entirely.
  • Since the Accordance font supports (and recommended unicode choice for) the Egyptological Ain is U+A725, we now export and import this character. Same applies for the Egyptological Aleph (U+A722, U+A723).
  • Added Get Verses support for alternative builds of Libre Office, as well as a new version of Ulysses and OneNote.
  • Updated Help for 13.0.5.

New in Accordance 13.0.4 (Jan 25, 2020)

  • Added support for Reference Lists to contain verses of other corpora, based on the chosen module. If switching to a different corpus, and there are verses, it will warn the user before dumping all verses.
  • Added support for a fast cached Research result of key searches with the transliterated form instead of the Key Number.
  • Improved a Live Click Research of key numbers to work better between Strong’s and GK.
  • Removed the Quick Entry unpointed list from unicode original language Texts, as exact vs inexact search specification isn’t even supported yet.
  • Added support for stripping the Wasla from Arabic letters. Without this change, searches containing a wasla will have no results.
  • Reduced size of Arabic drawing in Quick Entry to better fit in the rows.
  • A minor typo in the Validation warning message.
  • Improved Tutorials in Accordance Lite and when localizing.
  • Updated help for 13.0.4

New in Accordance 13.0.3 (Jan 9, 2020)

  • Updated the save files for Research tab so that the source text for Live Click searches are preserved between sessions. This required a revision of the file, so Research tabs saved after this version will not be backwards compatible.
  • Added Dark Mode support for the Diagram Pane, Syntax Tree Pane, and Stack.
  • Removed the Bookmarks button from the Text Browser as it was redundant.
  • Now unicode Arabic search results will always highlight the entire word (space to space) rather than just a portion of the word, since Arabic letters change significantly within a word if it is broken up by style.
  • In Easy Install, the download size will no longer show for installed items, since they can’t be downloaded.
  • Added the Keyboard Shortcuts to the Preference Search.
  • Added a new user metric, ‘Usage’, which is reported in the About Accordance dialog. It shows the percent of time spent over the prior 6 months being active in Accordance (multiplied by 50x for a nicer number).
  • Japanese localization support.
  • Korean localization updates.

New in Accordance 13.0.2 (Nov 21, 2019)

  • Added ability to insert words/lex/keynumbers/roots via the standard word list dialog within the TEXT command options dialog.
  • Added Interlinear support for new NET-GNT, which is a Greek text with Strong’s, like GNT-TRS.
  • Improved unicode Hebrew size and spacing, to hopefully better match surroundings in Instant Details.
  • Bundle descriptions now show the number of items in that bundle that have been hidden by the user.
  • Added preliminary support for localizations interacting with tutorials. This mainly applies to menus, which found items via a text search.
  • Restored the missing “Automatically check for module updates” options in Updates preferences.
  • Localization Updates.

New in Accordance 13.0 (Nov 11, 2019)

  • Changes:
  • Paper items that have a bibliography endnote now have a right click menu option to remove it.
  • Auto-generated Paper endnotes and bibliography items will now be skipped over when tabbing between editable items and can no longer be edited by clicking outside the text area.
  • The Paper item currently being edited will no longer move when trying to scroll up beyond the top of a Paper.
  • When copying a Tool Stack item, the Accordance location url will be included if the user has the bibliography preference for that enabled.
  • Key number texts now create Interlinear columns for each variant, rather than only showing the first variant.
  • Cross Highlighting now marks all of the Interlinear columns associated with a variant word.
  • The “INFER” command can now be used with tabs whose name contains a “+” character.
  • Added a preference to disable auto-switching of the class pop-up in the Analytics Bar/Pie Chart. Can be found under Preferences -> Greek & Hebrew.
  • If auto-switching is enabled, but no class is “good” then the pop-up will remain at its previous value.
  • When copying as citation, or using get verses, the character after a paragraph marker will now be removed only if it is a space, instead of unconditionally.
  • Improved WiFi syncing of modules with a large file size.
  • Added a block to not allow Check for Updates or Sync to process any modules with illegal file name characters, such as a slash, such as “NIV-G/K”. This prevents bad attempts to sync them to the iOS device.
  • Implemented an in-app EULA presentation that works for both new or existing users.
  • Korean Localization: Complete updates for Atlas and minor changes for Timeline.
  • The keyboard hotkey conflict message now says “cancel” instead of “OK”.
  • Updated help for 12.3.5
  • Better support for the Modern Hebrew NT with Strongs (MHNTS):
  • When shift-triple clicking on a keyed text, now the dictionary loaded is of the source module language, rather than assuming English. This also has a positive benefit for the GNT-TRS.
  • Where the Analysis converted Key Strings based on the parent language, which was fine for English, but destructive for other languages. Since the string is always english, e.g. ‘G011 Abraam’, it should not be converted in this case.
  • Where amplify code assumed that the key string should always be used when going Key -> Tagged text. This made sense for GNT-TRS, but not MHNTS. Now the string is only used if the key language also matches.
  • Now, when Override Key Number Dictionaries is checked, the right click would still use the english word when searching the Greek or Hebrew dictionary.

New in Accordance 12.3.4 (Apr 4, 2019)

  • Updated Korean localization.

  • Setup Assistant’s “Default Text” will now also be set as the web browser’s default text for scripture links.
  • Upgraded the WiFi sync ‘encoding error’ dialog to try to also show the name of the file it failed to encode.
  • Changed the “Suppress tool browser auto-sizing” preference to “Suppress Table of Contents auto-sizing in Tools”, since we no longer refer to the Table of Contents as “browsers” in the documentation.
  • The red “Range Selection” indicators in a Tool’s table of contents now align with the node they are indicating.
  • Updated help for 12.3.3.
  • Parallel text display improvements when a parallel pane has extra verses not present in the search or reference text. The extra verses are not shown with any of the following conditions:
  • The Search tab is in Word search mode.
  • The verse entry is non-contiguous.
  • The verse entry is specified to a verse level. That is, the entry Ps 51 may show the extra verses, but Ps 51:1-5 will not show the extra verses.
  • If a specific book has too many missing verses to fill, such as in some books of the DSSB-C, when it is the search or reference text.
  • Made the following improvements to User Bible import:
  • Added an explicit error message to not allow UTF16 files to be imported. All Unicode files must now be UTF8.
  • Improved the “detection” of UTF8 files that consist of languages supported by the Accordance ASCII fonts, such as Greek, Hebrew, etc. These files will be converted from UTF8 to ASCII using the respective Accordance fonts. UTF8 files that have mixed Accordance languages or no Accordance languages will be kept as Unicode modules.
  • Qumran import enhancements
  • Import of texts with chapter strings versification is now supported.
  • Import of texts with over 200 books is now supported.
  • Improved import of European verse notation and support “.” as a verse divider.

  • Text browser tabs can now be renamed.
  • The Hebrew Construct ETCBC will now show “Clause” radio options in the correct dialogs.
  • The concordance for a search will no longer attempt to show original language book names in an English font.
  • The previous chapter/book buttons will now go to the start of the current book/chapter, rather than the start of the previous one, unless it is at the first verse in the ref list that is from that chapter.
  • The flex/exact button in tools will now also check the state of the extra conditions when determining whether to dim.
  • When text is amplified to a diagram, it should now align with the default grid spacing.
  • The web browser context menu items for “Download Linked File” and “Download Image” have been removed, since these are not supported.
  • When a workspace with the map is saved, the sites, regions, routes, and user layers that are currently selected will be saved delocalized, if possible, and are relocalized when loaded. This allows the items to remain selected if opened on a system using a different localization.
  • Where changing the “Group” dropdown menus in Live Click preferences would not un-dim the OK button.
  • In “Get Verses”, if the “Use Citation Format” box is checked, the process should now respect ALL of the user’s Citation preferences.
  • The user Bible import dialog now has a checkmark for use when the text is Arabic. If set, the import will assume the imported text is Arabic, and will skip the logic that tries to determine import language. The options for this dialog are now hidden unless the user hits “Advanced”.
  • More characters are checked during bible import to determine the language.
  • User Tool HTML import will no longer completely fail if a verse reference contains a typo somewhere in the document.

  • Updated help for 12.3.2.

New in Accordance 12.3.1 (Nov 15, 2018)

  • Added a separate setting for the verse reference font size in the Text Browser preferences.
  • The Text Browser will now respect the “Limit Text Width” Appearance Preference.
  • If a tab tie scrolls a Text Browser outside of the range of verses its primary Text supports, it will cease updating rather than being blanked out.
  • In a stack item, user editable text will no longer have a 1500 character limit.
  • Research and Verse hyperlinks in Papers will now respect the “open hyperlinks in Text Browser” preference.
  • Shift-clicking a hyperlink in Research will now open the link, rather than selecting text.
  • Minor Italian localization updates.

New in Accordance 12.3.0 (Nov 1, 2018)

  • TEXT BROWSER:
  • Use the new Text Browser tab to automatically show multiple translations of the same verse. This Text Browser can be linked to various other tabs (Search, Reference List, Context, Reference Tool, or User Notes) to show the top verse in all available translations or a predefined group of translations.
  • The Text Browser tab can be opened from the Amplify menu, from the right-click Look Up submenu, or from a “hard” hyperlink in a Tool tab that points to an external non-biblical text, if the Preferences are set to hyperlink to a Tool Browser tab rather than a Text tab.
  • Up to 9 verses can be shown for each Text version.
  • Added Amplify -> Text Browser to the list of user customizable shortcuts, and set its default to Cmd/Ctrl - 6.
  • Enhanced copying of text for the Text Browser tab: If text in a single pane is selected, the Copy text feature works as before. But if no text is selected (even if a pane is selected), then the Edit>Copy menu item changes to “Copy All Panes”, and the entire text shown in the Text Browser tab will be copied.
  • Ability to save all panes to a file in the Text Browser tab, when there is no text selection in any pane. Saving the text can be done either as Plain Text or RTF. If the front tab is a Text Browser tab with no pane selection, the menu item in the File menu changes to “Save All Panes As Text File” to make this option clear.
  • Ability to print the contents of the new Text Browser tab. Printing always prints all of the contents of the tab, whether there is a selected pane or not, and whether the Print Settings dialog specifies to print only one pane or not. Note that many of the options in the Print Settings dialog do not apply to the Text Browser tab.
  • Ability to open the Text (Context) tab from the gear menu in any pane of the Text Browser tab.
  • Option to open the the new Text Browser tab when clicking on a hyperlink verse reference in a Tool tab or in a Reference Tool pane in the Search tab. This preference can be toggled by holding down the Shift key while clicking on the Tool hyperlink verse reference. NOTE: If there are more than 9 verses in the Tool hyperlink verse reference, and if the Preference is set to open the Text Browser tab, only the first 9 verses of the text will be shown.
  • Updated the Live Click preferences to give the option of opening either the new Text Browser tab or the Research tab, when clicking on a verse reference in a Search tab. If the Shift key is pressed, it will toggle between these two options. This type of Live Click to a Text Browser tab supports the following:
  • The same Live Click text group preference is used as the text group in a new Text Browser tab.
  • The new Text Browser tab from Live Click is opened with a default of both recycling enabled and tying from the Text Browser tab to its source tab.
  • After a Text Browser tab is opened, it will be reused if it has both the same text corpus and the same default text group as a source tab.
  • The source tab will be always set the Text Browser reference (or text order) text to be the same as its search text, whether opening a new Text Browser tab or recycling an older Text Browser tab.
  • The following Text Browser preferences are available in the ‘Web & Text Browser’ preference pane:
  • The default text group.
  • The option to force all texts to be the same font size for new panes.
  • The font size to use, if forcing all texts to be the same font size. (Hebrew and other non-Latin fonts are proportionally adjusted in size.)
  • Suppress poetry: This applies to new panes.
  • Abbreviate Text Name: Determines if export lists abbreviation (“ESVS”) vs Human Readable Name (“ESV with Strong’s”)
  • Remove Line Breaks: This removes all line breaks in the export, both in the contents and between texts.
  • Hide verse reference: This hides all verse references in the export.
  • Hide superscripts: This hides all superscripts in the export.
  • Include Heading Details: This prepends the verse references and group used to generate the list in the export.
  • PAPERS/STACKS:
  • The Library now supports subfolders within the Paper and Stack subgroups. Subfolders can now be created anywhere in the Stacks or Papers in the Library. Each subfolder name must be unique within the Stack or Paper subcategory.
  • Changed the maximum number of characters for a Paper file name and a Paper subfolder name from 31 to 255 characters, since longer files names are supported in the Finder and the Library folder structure for Papers and Stacks are determined by the Finder and not by a Settings file. (This change also applies to Stack file names and Stack subfolders.)
  • Added a Word Count menu item as the first item of the Gear menu to show the word count of the text items as displayed by items selected in the Show pull-down menu. Only words are counted, not punctuation.
  • In the Paper tab, added a menu item to the Right-click menu to open the Paper settings dialog.
  • In the Paper tab settings dialog, added an option for [None] for each level of hierarchy markers to hide the item marker for that particular hierarchical level. When the option for [None] is set, the Hide Outline Marker menu item in the Paper item action menu is dimmed, if that Paper item is at the appropriate hierarchical level.
  • Added an option in the Text Item action menu for text items with no outline marker to resume the outline sequence for items after it, rather than starting the outline sequence over again.
  • In Preferences>Appearance added an option to open a Paper tab at a specified Zoom level, whether for a new Paper or an existing Paper file. This feature only currently applies to Paper tabs and not Stack tabs.
  • Added support for all types of links (Resource, Web, File, Scripture) and support for different displayed text for the link.
  • Now the Link and Endnote buttons are dimmed when not editing.
  • Improved paper handling of bibliography entries if the tool is not present. It now grabs as much information as it can, then notes that it may be incomplete due to the missing tool.
  • Improved paper endnote ‘Ibid’ entries to note if the number is a paragraph instead of page number.
  • Improved paper endnote ‘Ibid’ entries to properly support unicode localization.
  • Updated the Paper Template dialog to fix the custom templates drawing.
  • Updated Copy and Paste to transfer bibliographic information directly from an Accordance Tool to the Paper tab without going via a Stack item, as follows:
  • When doing a simple Copy or Copy By Citation of text from an Accordance Tool, the bibliography information is now also copied from the tool with the new clipboard flavor. When the clipboard contents are pasted into a Paper tab, the bibliographic information will automatically be saved in the Paper tab.
  • Previously only a Drag & Drop from a Stack item would automatically bring over the bibliographic information.
  • If the clipboard contents are directly pasted into the edit window of the Paper tab, and if there is already previous bibliographic information in the item being edited, then a dialog box will appear to allow the user to either update the bibliography with the new pasted contents or leave the bibliographic information as is.
  • If the clipboard contents are pasted in a Paper tab as a new item, the article name from the source Tool will appear automatically in the Title field of the new Paper item along with the bibliography information.
  • SEARCH and SEARCH VIEWS:
  • Completely revised the core searching of Accordance, so as to make the searching more accurate and to take into account punctuation and word variants, so as to minimize the complexity of word proximity calculations. This approach also better clarifies the distinction between word proximity index and the word hit highlighting index.
  • Fixed several search errors present in the current release for Construct proximity searching with three or more phrase terms connected by the WITHIN command when there are multiple possible hits within a verse or other scope.
  • Improved searching for implied words in phrase-tagged texts and the related Null searching in the Holmstedt Hebrew syntax data base.
  • Improved inflected searches, when a selection is not specified, to grab the word based on the tagged data, instead of getting the entire word bounds from punctuation to punctuation. This should only be called when coming from an RTL tagged text. This also improves live click when set to inflected.
  • Improved the searching of variants for the case when the number of words in brackets was greater than the number of corresponding words before the brackets.
  • When using the equals sign (=) in the Search tab, a specific message now appears if a space immediately follows the equals sign. The space is highlighted so that the user can simply delete it and continue the search. Previously this kind of error caused the vocabulary list dialog to appear with no clear explanation of the error.
  • When using the context menu “Search For” option, the new search tab that opens will try to keep the same pane proportions as the tab the search originated from.
  • Added a new search item - ANYSYNTAX - to the Construct tab for finding any tag item within a group of Syntax tags that are related, such as Subject, Predicate, Complement, Adjunct, and Specifier. The dialog interface is similar to that of the ANY Construct item that finds related morphological tags.
  • When dragging simple Syntax items such as subject, predicate, adjunct, etc. in the Construct tab, the dialog box that opens now offers the option of selecting the ANYSYNTAX item with the specific simple Syntax item already defined in the ANYSYNTAX item.
  • Fixed the ANY item to not accept parts of speech and categories within a part of speech, so as to avoid spurious search results. Only the tags themselves can be entered, such as "plural", "feminine", etc., but not “Verb”, “Number”, etc.
  • Cross-Highlighting should now work much better across panes. If one pane is able to highlight in another pane, the panes that are highlighted will highlight any panes that they can highlight that have not already been highlighted.
  • Moved the Live Click options from their own dialog to a page in the Preferences dialog.
  • Updated the Search view Add User Note icon to a plus, as well as the other user notes icons.
  • Improved alphabetization of unicode Arabic words.
  • RESEARCH:
  • Moved the Flex toggle for a Research tab to a dedicated icon control on the right side of the entry box, like the tools tab.
  • Added support for Research Hebrew Literal searches, enabling a single string search that consistently works across tagged, untagged texts, and tools. The option is in the Search Options/History menu, where Flex used to be.
  • Added dimming of the Flex toggle control if the current language does not support it.
  • Added new Reading/Research preferences to explicitly determine whether a new Research tab is Flex/Exact and Literal/Grammatical.
  • Added a feature such that the title in the research browser will show the number of verses as well as the number of hits.
  • Improved speed when doing a research inflected search, as the tool results would be uncached even though there is no distinction.
  • Updated Research tabs so that a verse search with an equal sign in front of it would be able to return results in texts if they are part of the scope of the search.
  • Items can now be added directly to the Stack from the Research tab.
  • The research browser has a new “Open In” dropdown menu for text results:
  • All verses can be opened in a text browser from the dropdown menu.
  • Opening in a workspace will repeat the research’s search in the new workspace, and will scroll all possible documents to the verse that was opened.
  • WEB BROWSER:
  • Added buttons to web browser for zooming in and out on pages where that is possible.
  • Right clicking on web scripture references now shows the “Text Browser” option in the “Look Up” menu.
  • Items can now be added directly to the Stack from the Web Browser.
  • Supports automatic scripture verse references detection in the web browser:
  • Scripture references will be detected on webpages, and highlighted in red to distinguish them from normal links.
  • Clicking the scripture reference will open the user’s default web hyperlink version to that reference.
  • Hovering over the scripture reference will bring up instant details from that version.
  • Holding Command/Ctrl will show the alternate text in Instant Details, if possible.
  • There are now new preferences available for the Web Browser, in the “Web & Text Browser” preferences:
  • The home page can now be set by the user.
  • The default texts for hyperlinking scripture references in the web browser can now be selected.
  • CITATION:
  • Copy as citation will use “Psalm” instead of the plural “Psalms” unless multiple chapters are being cited.
  • Added a preference to split discontiguous verses when using “Copy as Citation”
  • Improved reliability when copying several verses as citation.
  • Added an radio button in citation preferences specifying whether the entire citation should be enclosed in markers, or just the text title.
  • When a citation uses a book abbreviation, it will now add a period after the abbreviation unless the “Use SBL standard abbreviations” option is checked.
  • USER BIBLES:
  • Enhanced the import of User Bibles as follows:
  • Import of any UTF16 file is now supported.
  • Import of a UTF8 or UTF16 file which mainly uses a standard Accordance font, such as Greek, Hebrew, Syriac, etc., is now converted to be a regular Text module with Accordance fonts instead of Unicode fonts. (This gives better compatibility between other Accordance texts that use the same font.)
  • Other language groups such as Chinese, Russian, or even “extended” Latin Unicode remain as Unicode Bible texts.
  • LOCALIZATION:
  • Added Italian localization.
  • If the localization is changed, then any user settable default item (e.g. highlight style name, route layer, library categories, etc.) will be changed to the current localization.
  • Fixed the region and route lists from the region and route layers dialogs to properly display in current localization.
  • WIFI SYNC:
  • Stack and Paper can now be synced between your Desktop and Device.
  • Updated list icons to use modern library type icons, since there is no old color Stack or Paper icon.
  • Improved conflict detection when syncing User notes.
  • MISCELLANEOUS:
  • The Research and User Notes table of contents can now be hidden.
  • Switching pictures in a popover picture doc will now scroll to the same picture in the document under the popover.
  • Accordance web links in tools, papers, stacks, and notes will be parsed for instant details the same way it gets instant details for the older square bracket link types.
  • Updated workspaces names and workspace path names to support unicode and much longer filenames.
  • Added RTF parsing support of the superscript style. Also support for pasting smallcaps and HTML from RTF.
  • Added “Safe Mode” options to remove timeline and/or atlas files. Also the ability to uninstall Syntax Files, Diagram Files, and Interlinear Files.
  • When importing a User Tool from HTML, the area inside of “href” tags will not be checked for scripture auto-linking, so that the original link will not be destroyed.
  • Added an “Accordance Exchange” link to the Help menu.
  • Updated help for 12.3

New in Accordance 12.2.9 (Sep 12, 2018)

  • Added support for importing a single book folder of User Notes, such as selecting the ‘Gen’ folder directly containing verse notes.
  • Adjusted how paper item indent and gear controls position, in order to prevent an overlap that could occur when the heading text spanned the full width of the page.
  • Added the ability to use the character search option (period (.) for inline searching, and the CHAR item in the Construct tab) for Unicode characters for both Texts and Tools.
  • Enhanced the construct CHAR dialog box by adding an option to select either ASCII or Unicode characters. This option is only supported for the Simple construct and is disabled for the Greek and Hebrew constructs.
  • When pasting text directly into the CHAR item in the Construct tab, the paste style is now ignored.
  • Improved case insensitive UTF8 string comparison for Armenian, that has problems with certain characters that capitalize oddly.
  • “Copy as search URL” will now convert all component strings to unicode if any of them are unicode, which fixes an encoding issue in “Strong’s Number” search URLs.
  • Accordance will now recognize the search field in a URL regardless of if the apostrophe in “Strong’s Number” is a regular apostrophe or a right single quotation mark.
  • Increased the hardcoded limit on books in a user bible from 100 to 200, which allows Quran import to go through.
  • Improved backward compatibility of Highlights files.
  • Filenames of User tools that are converted to tools are now shortened before adding the ° symbol, if they are too long.
  • Now if a module is deleted from the library, it is now also removed from user groups.
  • Apple deprecated the option to have title bars on the side with MacOS 10.12. Adjusted any windows with side title bars to have them on top instead in 10.12 and up.
  • Dialog Localization updates.
  • Updated help for 12.2.9
  • Massive updates to the BibleWorksHebrewToYehudit routine:
  • Support for all the remaining characters, generated manually by comparing the raw fonts and matching as best as possible.
  • Changed the incoming encoding to want windows ANSI, as some characters used by BWHebrew aren’t present in MacRoman.
  • Fixed some small conversion errors.
  • When swapping the order of vowels and consonants, reversed the vowel/cantillation order so it remains logical (Consonant -> Vowel -> Cantillation)
  • If a conversion isn’t found, now the source character is retained.
  • When swapping the final string, do it line by line, so the lines themselves aren’t reversed.
  • Modified how research results display when the “Full Text” display option is selected:
  • Tools with sub-articles will now also display the sub-articles of hits (up to a maximum number).
  • In the NIDNTT, both Greek AND English will be treated as a default field, so that the entire article will be displayed for either.

New in Accordance 12.2.8 (Jul 4, 2018)

  • Now holding Shift + Option when clicking to add a bookmark will take precedence over Live Click.
  • The Research analytics will now load the required data to show available Syntax information.
  • The “Show Analytics” hotkey will now also work in the Research tab.
  • Blocked Live Click for Word Usage on a non-text pane.
  • When switching a Search tab module from a unicode to a non-unicode text, the entry field search text will also be converted to non-unicode, if possible.
  • Improved importing of BibleWorks Notes files.
  • Improved loading times for Instant Details with a noticeable improvement in Arabic reaction times, due to the complex nature of Arabic word length.
  • Improved the font size of Instant Details
  • Updated Localization and help files for 12.2.8.
  • Improved Live Click:
  • A custom group can be used as the Research group for Verse Lookup, even allowing tool scripture searches.
  • A custom group can be used as the Research group for Word Usage, though this also filters the results to text only.
  • Added custom group for lexicon lookup in Live Click.
  • Holding the Shift key during Live Click will toggle the Live Click Type choices.
  • Generated Research tabs are now named for their function (Lexicon Lookup, Verse Lookup, Word Usage).
  • New Live Click Research tabs are now placed better.
  • Existing Live Click tabs recycle, regardless of changes to group or field. This helps maintain dedicated Live Click tabs, as long as they keep the original tab name somewhere in the name.

New in Accordance 12.2.7 (Jun 17, 2018)

  • WHAT'S NEW:
  • Live Click feature for easy Research within a text:
  • Toggled in a Search window, options dialog to configure whether to use the Lexical or Inflected form, Key Numbers or written word.
  • Supports a lexical lookup in the dictionaries, a word or verse usage lookup to show usage within the current book or other texts.
  • Keyed texts to search other keyed texts for the KEY, instead of original language texts for the original language word.
  • Added an option (default:OFF) to delay the live click processing by the length of a double click (max 1 second). If a double click occurs in that time, cancel the live click. This allows for much easier double/triple click interaction.
  • RTF/bww notes files import feature for BibleWorks Notes:
  • The user selects a folder containing notes, which currently is expecting the bww scheme. Notes are named either as chapters (e.g. John3) or as references within a folder (e.g. John3_3)
  • The imported RTF data is added to user notes at the specified references in the filename.
  • Importing is done via the User Files menu, with a customizable keyboard shortcut.
  • Support for hyperlinks. Currently only the GOTOVERSE hyperlink style is processed, all other links are read directly.
  • Includes support of BWGreek and BWHebrew non unicode fonts.
  • Imported notes of length

New in Accordance 12.2.6 (May 26, 2018)

  • Changes
  • Improved instant details dictionary look up to not use the Gloss form of a Hebrew/Greek word when looking up common words like prepositions and articles, as this often lead to spurious hits.
  • Significantly improved handling of marked text, so we now work with Chinese/Japanese characters much better.
  • When pasting multiple lines into the search, a space will now be added after the semicolon that replaces the line break.
  • Changed Tab Linking to not return an all-caps name, as since going to unicode, we are case-insensitive directly anyway. This also improves visual experience for the CONTENTS command in a Search Back.
  • Tweaked the drawing of null hits, when at the start of a verse, to not overlap the first word.
  • Removed character adjustment when highlighting mixed direction verses.
  • The font size buttons in the instant details pane will now dim when at minimum and maximum size, rather than beeping.

  • Tweaked Get Verses word processor matching to improve reliability.
  • Updated all disclosure triangles to new look that are more properly centered.
  • Turned on multi-select in several dialog list controls.
  • Added tooltips to the delete, up, and down buttons in dialogs that have them.
  • Filename prohibited characters are now allowed when renaming tabs.
  • Before a temporary session is saved and reopened, any edit windows will now be updated and closed automatically, to prevent crashes.
  • Improved the human readability and structure of the “close open edit windows” dialog.
  • Easy install will now check for non-updated edit windows before the install window pops up, rather than when the user clicks “download”.
  • If one is open, the “close open edit windows” warning will show instead of the install dialog.
  • The “install” button will also check that no non-updated edit windows are open, in case the user opened one after the previous check was passed.
  • Added an “X” close button to the dropbox linking dialog, since the normal Mac close button doesn’t appear for sheets.
  • Detaching a web browser tab can no longer cause its workspace to close if it was the only workspace.
  • Improved Installing of new modules to load their extra info early enough for runtime metadata (Module Name arrays, etc).
  • Updated Localization and help files for 12.2.6

New in Accordance 12.2.5 (May 4, 2018)

  • Now the Tag>Noun dialog shows all of the noun classes when the ETCBC Hebrew database is used and when the ProperNoun class is chosen.
  • Significant improvements in handling Syntax searching of Null items
  • Any search of open and close smart single quotes and open and close smart double quotes finds only those exact characters.
  • Improved URL error reporting
  • When a progress bar is active in a analytics tab, it is always anchored to the gear icon, and the controls usually in this spot are hidden until the progress bar is done.
  • The title of bar and pie chart will now be truncated if there is not sufficient room to display them, and they will be hidden while a progress bar is displayed.
  • The analytics result type popup will now be given a valid initial value.

  • The “DocX” option will not show up on the “save text selection” menu except for with papers, since it’s only supported for papers at the moment.
  • The “compare” menu title will now be hidden if it overlaps the results type popup.
  • Added a “Getting Started” item to the help menu that will open that module. Menu item will not appear if the “Getting Started” module is not installed.

  • Copy as picture will now hide more of the controls and in the map doc and graph doc.
  • The map legend will now show a black outline for routes shown in white.
  • Improved bibliography handling for Journals that contained a volume number. The parentheses in the format file weren’t being handled correctly, so now they are only added if the tag after them is present. To compensate, though, the extracted bibliographic ‘year’ string loses its starting parenthesis.
  • Report Corrections will now insert a generalized subject line if the front document lacks version abbreviation.
  • Added ‘*’ as an ambiguous LTR-RTL character, so hebrew words with wildcards would be rendered correctly in unicode texts.
  • Added Mac Get Verses support for SoftMaker TextMaker and Presentations
  • Improved Mac Get Verses Word Processor matching
  • Now the Syriac Seyame right-to-left character is rendered correctly in Unicode texts such as in the User Notes, since it uses the Latin dieresis character, which is normally a left-to-right character. Note that older versions of the Mac OS may still not render words with this character properly.
  • “Link to Dropbox” will now open in an external browser on El Capitan and earlier.
  • German Timeline localization Updated.
  • Updated help for 12.2.5

  • Some Paper printing, Parsing Window, and Instant Details enhancements and many important bug fixes.
  • Changes:
  • Updated the printing of Paper tabs to support print page breaks in the middle of a text item, so that the print page is "filled" on the bottom, and so that texts longer than one page will print OK.
  • Updated the print font size of Paper tabs to now be supported by the Print Settings dialog and to reflect the actual zoom size of the Paper tab.
  • a) In the Print Settings dialog, if "Use default font size of:" is checked, then the print font size of the Paper tab will be set to the selected font size, normalized to 12-point font.
  • b) In the Print Settings dialog, if "Use default font size of:" is not checked, then the print font size of the Paper tab will be the actual font size viewed in the Paper tab, as resized by the zoom magnification.

  • Improved the transliteration of Arabic and Syriac in the Instant Details and the Parse tab.
  • Added better Unicode support for the Instant Details, especially when used with the Diagram tab.
  • Improved Instant Details tab management to not crash. This is done by caching the name of the version from which to retrieve the tabs, rather than the tabs array itself.
  • Improved Papers Settings file to not resave itself when changing the recent papers, if the recents list didn’t actually change (i.e. loaded a paper already the most recent).
  • Lots of improvements or fixes to the Parsing window.
  • a) Since its unicode now, its Hebrew columns don’t need to be right just anymore.
  • b) Improved the code of when to add tab or space intervening characters, rather than randomly appending or prepending a word or not.
  • c) Improved logic of when and how to append Syntax information.
  • d) Improved handling of transliterated unicode characters, such as from QURAN-T.

  • Improved Paper to automatically style pasted URLs and Resource Links in the standard link color and underline.
  • When copying a Text item with RTF conversion in the Paper tab, a tab character is now inserted between the outline marker and its text to better replicate the Paper tab selection when pasting into a word processor.

  • Added undo to the hide outline level command in paper.
  • Improved in-pane tool author listing to also check if the Bibliography entry for that tool (or tool volume) lists the author.
  • Added an Info Pane Crossreference check to not complain if the chosen tool isn’t installed.
  • Improved in-pane tool author listing to also check if the Bibliography entry for that tool (or tool volume) lists the author.
  • Added an Info Pane Crossreference check to not complain if the chosen tool isn’t installed.
  • When exporting Hebrew text with the option of stripping vowel points, the maqqef is now removed and the letters sin/shin are now converted to an unpointed sin. Previously this was done only with the option of stripping all marks.
  • In the Paper tab, when clicking to the left of a text group item, the item now has an extra left selection margin, if it has no marker characters.
  • In the Paper tab, when clicking on a specific text within in a text group item, an extra margin is added to the right so as to allow selection of short texts in which the entire text is a hyperlink, such as a verse reference.

New in Accordance 12.2.2 (Jan 9, 2018)

  • Some Library search enhancements and many bug fixes:

  • The filter alert box is now hidden during a library search
  • Library filter is reset to “All” when “Show in Library” is selected during a search
  • Updated help files for 12.2.2

New in Accordance 9.0.2 (Sep 21, 2010)

  • Accordance has always been amazingly fast. Accordance 9 is faster. Accordance has always been incredibly powerful. Accordance 9 is even more so. Accordance has always been flexible enough to let you work the way you want. Accordance 9 is more flexible still. If Accordance offers excellence in Bible study, Accordance 9 offers excellence refined!
  • You've Got the Look - Accordance 9 offers a new look for a new generation of Bible students. There are lots of cosmetic improvements like more modern controls and updated icons. Yet the beauty of Accordance 9 is more than skin deep. Each change has been carefully designed to improve your Bible study experience.
  • Get in the Zone - In the course of your Bible study, you may consult a vast array of texts, lexicons, commentaries, and other resources. To help you keep all those resource neatly arranged yet easily accessible, Accordance 9 introduces zones. Zones are like mini-workspaces within a single workspace window. Each zone can have tabs containing multiple resources, but unlike tabs, the zones always remain neatly arranged beside each other. You might decide to keep all your Bibles in one zone, all your dictionaries in another, and all your commentaries in a third. Or you might group your English Bibles in one zone, and all your Greek texts and tools in another. Zones give you complete flexibility to arrange your workspace however you like. Accordance 9 will even do its best to add new resources to the most appropriate zone available. Want to do Bible study "in the zone"? Get Accordance 9.
  • Feel the Need for Speed? - Accordance has always offered lightning fast searches and incredibly convenient ways to interact with your search results . . . with one notable exception. The Search All window let you search every module in your library at once, but it didn't exactly break any speed records. It has therefore been completely redesigned for Accordance 9.
  • First, it's fast. A new method of indexing lets you search even the largest library in seconds. Best of all, your computer won't bog down for hours during the indexing process.
  • Second, you can now browse the results right in the Search All window. Browse through resources on the left and see hits in context on the right.
  • Third, a new Captions option lets you search for images in tools which contain a caption field, making it easy to mine your library for useful pictures and illustrations.
  • The screaming speed and convenient display of the revamped Search All window make it incredibly useful for mining the depths of your entire Accordance library. If you "feel the need for speed," then you need Accordance 9.
  • Need it Now? Get it Now! - Need a new commentary to help with Sunday's sermon? How about a better lexicon to help with that exegesis paper? It doesn't matter if the bookstores are closed, the Accordance online store is always open. And now with Accordance 9 Easy Install, almost every Accordance resource can be downloaded and installed in minutes. No more waiting for the mail to arrive, and no more shipping costs to pay. If you need it now, get it now.
  • Get Your Act Together - Accordance has long offered you options to group related modules together for opening or searching, but the various methods were confusing. That's all gone now. Simply add a folder to My Groups in the Library window, and drag any modules into it. Update, and bingo, this group is available to the souped up Search All. Want to simply open all the modules in that folder? Double-click on the folder. Command-double-click to open them in their own workspace which you can save as a Favorite, and then amplify to it to search for your selected word or phrase.
  • Go Beyond Grammar - Ever struggled to understand how one word relates to another in the original text? What is the subject of the sentence? Which clause states the main point and which clauses merely support that point? At times it takes a linguist to figure out!
  • So we took a linguist—actually a whole team of them—and put them to work analyzing the Bible text for you. They are still hard at work, but you can purchase their analysis of Genesis and John right now, enjoying free updates to the completed modules.
  • Accordance Syntax modules let you view a beautiful syntax tree which shows clearly how the words fit together. Syntactical terms are explained in the Instant Details and cross-highlight with the tagged text in a parallel pane. Want to find other examples of an interesting construction? Syntactical searches are easy to set up using the Search or Construct tabs.
  • This syntax has been designed from the get go to fit elegantly into Accordance and to help you engage with the text rather than with the syntactical database. You'll love the way it opens up the text for you.

New in Accordance 8.4.4 (Mar 10, 2010)

  • Pressing command to see the dictionary article for the word under the cursor in the Instant Details: if there is a main article for that word it is now displayed, rather than just the first entry containing the word.
  • For Key number texts, the shift-triple-click opens the last English dictionary rather than the Key dictionary.

The specific formats currently supported include the SBL and Turabian styles, either with the bibliography below the citation or inserted automatically as a footnote. (OS X only).
  • Note: This first release of this new feature attempts to provide accurate Bibliographic information from any tool, but it is not perfect, so please check for errors.
  • If a string of words is not found in a text or tool, the dialog now offers to search for ANY or ALL of the words.
  • An option in Print Settings scales the image up or down to fit onto the printed page (OS X only).

New in Accordance 8.2.3 (May 11, 2009)

  • Scripture References in Instant Details - When the cursor is over a multi-verse reference in a Tool or User Notes window, the Instant Details box now displays up to 8 verses of the text.
  • Spaces Between Book Names and Numbers:
  • When entering verse references it is no longer necessary to avoid entering a space between a book number and name, so that 2 Kings is now acceptable anywhere in a list of references. However, now you must add a comma or semi-colon after the last number of the previous reference so that it is not interpreted as a book number. Thus Gen 1:1; Ex 1:1 must be used rather than Gen 1:1 Ex 1:1.
  • Copy as Citation and Copy as References now automatically add a space between a book number and name, so that 2Kings becomes 2 Kings. This is separate from the setting of Use SBL Standard notation in Preferences/Appearance.
  • Other Text Export Enhancements - Accordance now converts to the the correct Unicode characters when exporting NA27 apparatus sigla. Slight changes were also made in the "stripping" of characters in Greek and Syriac.
  • Reference List Window - Control-command-R adds the selected verse(s) to the top item in the Add Selection To submenu, making it easier to add verses to a Reference List. The limit of verses has been raised from 1000 to 10,000.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts:
  • Command-+ and Command- - now resize the text in the Analysis, Concordance, Table, Parsing, and Text Differences windows, as they already did in the main windows.
  • Control-0 changes the current search text to the tenth item in the pop-up menu.

New in Accordance 8.2 (Mar 9, 2009)

  • Localized to German and Spanish, so these languages are automatically supported if the primary System language is German or Spanish.
  • Amplifying:
  • When triple-clicking a word, if the word is not found in a search of the first dictionary, the other dictionaries in the category are searched in turn until the word is found.
  • Hebrew prefixes and suffixes are considered part of a single selected word when amplifying to a tagged text, so the equal sign is correctly added to the separate lemmas or inflected forms.
  • Hebrew vowels are now correctly divided between a word and its suffix, when these are separated by a space.
  • References:
  • Adding f after a verse reference now adds a single unit, verse, chapter, or book, intead of adding all of the last unit like ff does. A period is now ignored after f or ff, rather than generating an error message.
  • Windows:
  • Option-click on a pane close button closes all the other panes.
  • Further refinements to the diagram window include pressing option with an arrow key to move the object one pixel at a time.
  • Command-double-click on a module in the Library window opens an independent window instead of a tab.
  • Printing of 3 columns with side margins of 1 inch is now supported.

New in Accordance 8.0.4 (Jul 31, 2008)

  • We finally found a workaround to the two serious crashes on some Intel Macs. One occurred when printing to certain HP printers from OS 10.5.3 on the iMac. The other happened on opening the 3D Map window on Macs which use an NVidia graphics chipset with OS 10.5.2 or above. These issues were corrected in 8.0.3, and the warning on Intel when opening the 3D has been removed. However, an attempt to improve the 3D Map resulted in a bug in which the right side of the map appeared flat. This is corrected in 8.0.4 and the accuracy of the site placement is further improved.
  • Otherwise this upgrade mainly corrects sundry minor bugs, and is recommended for all users.

New in Accordance 8.0.3 (Jul 29, 2008)

  • We finally found a workaround to the two serious crashes on some Intel Macs. One occurred when printing to certain HP printers from OS 10.5.3 on the iMac. The other happened on opening the 3D Map window on Macs which use an NVidia graphics chipset with OS 10.5.2 or above. These issues should now be corrected, and the warning on Intel when opening the 3D has been removed. Otherwise this upgrade mainly corrects sundry minor bugs, and is recommended for all users.

New in Accordance 8.0.2 (Jun 20, 2008)

  • We have corrected some printing issues. However, we are aware of crashes with certain HP printers, Intel iMac, OS X 10.5.3, and the Intel version of Accordance. We have not yet found a workaround except to switch to a different printer driver (in another program) so that Accordance accesses that printer driver rather than the one that Apple supplies with Leopard for HP printers. You could print to a PDF, then later print the PDF.

New in Accordance 8.0.1 (Jun 5, 2008)

  • The initial release of version 8 went very smoothly, but several little bugs have come to light, so here is the latest version 8.0.1 which has dealt with almost all of them.
