Virus Scanner Apps and Alternatives

A virus is an application capable of copying itself and infect one or more computers.

A virus is able to quickly spread from an infected computer to any number of other computers if the file it's hosted in is transferred to any other computer in its network,  either through direct network/internet transfer or using any type of removable device (e.g. USB drives, CDs, DVDs, etc.)

An antivirus application has to be installed on a computer so that it will detect and, if possible, remove any file infected with viruses, worms, trojans or any other type of malware.

Users have to be aware of the fact that not all antivirus software will be capable of removing the threats detected during a scan.
