JPF is a raster image format based on the JPEG 2000 compression method, a compression standard and modern graphic coding system. JPF images can be created using either lossless or lossy compression.
The JPF format features a wavelet compression method as opposed to the DCT (Digital Cosine Transform) algorithm used to encode standard JPEG images.
JPF is a successor to the JPEG image format and features support for image transparency, and additional metadata information which describes the contents of the image file.
To be able to view their JPF images, users have to select and use an image viewer that feature built-in support for this particular graphic format.
