Telnet

is a network protocol based on a virtual terminal connection and typically used on Internet or LANs.

Telnet has been designed to provide its users with bidirectional interactive text-oriented communication.

Telnet client require a terminal connection in order to function, and, some of them, also come with support for terminal sessions.

One can also use telnet client to transfer files between the two connected hosts, transfer that can be loged to a file.
