MPEG-4 (also known as MP4) is a multimedia container format used for storing digital audio and video streams and to easily share video files over the Internet.

The MP4 multimedia format uses separate compression for its video and audio tracks, so that the resulting video track features MPEG-4 video encoding, while the audio is based on AAC compression.

MP4 video files can be viewed using both apps and portable devices, such as the Microsoft Zune portable media player.

Users may also be able to use MP4 players to easily adjust the bit rate or the aspect ratio for their video source files.
