MPG (better known as MPEG) is a multimedia format that has support for lossy compression of both video and audio files. MPG is also the most widely compatible multimedia lossy format, so that movie trailers and music videos distributed over the Internet are MPG files.
The advantage of the MPG multimedia format is that the compressed MPEG video files still preserve the quality of the initially uncompressed files.
By default, MPG playing apps will only allow their users to open and view/listen their MPEG multimedia files without any editing capabilities.
