GMail Notifiers Apps and Alternatives

Gmail is a free, ad-supported and web-based form of mail, owned by Google. This POP3 and IMAP service became hugely popular since its launch in 2004 and, due to its constant updates, it still attracts numerous new users every day.

Being a form of webmail, users would have to access a web browser each time they want to check their Gmail mailbox, therefore developers have designed dedicated apps that will automatically notify users of any incoming emails.

Basically, one just needs to specify an username and password once, then the app will sit in the menubar (so as not to disturb the users from their work), and an alert window will be automatically displayed whenever a new message arrives inside the Gmail inbox.

Users will also have the option to customize the notification, including its frequency and/or the sound to be played when a notification is displayed.
