Fax (abbreviation for facsimile) is a type of document sent or received over a telephone line.

Nonetheless, today fax files may also be sent and/or received using the Internet (called Internet faxing).

Internet fax is now very popular when compared to the traditional fax due to the reduction of communication costs since the telephone connection charge no longer exists (only the Internet connection has to be paid for).

The only pre-requisite for Internet faxing to be efficient is for both the sender and the receiving computers to have dedicated fax software installed.
